"It matters not" - Athan smiled, bowing politely to Erel - "Other matters were at hand, much more pressing than my welcome - I am Athanasius Brownstone. Well met to you" - he extended his hand.Revenant wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 9:28 pmErel orders one of the guards that joined them in their ride to go to the nearest post and bring back at least half a dozen guards as he wants the building watched should the rogue return. Then turning to Athan, "Sir...I'm sorry your welcome was less than hospitable."

"Minds weren't pictures at an exhibition, all numbered, and hung in order of influence, one marked "Cunning," the next, "Impressionable." They were scrawls; they were sprawling splashes of graffiti, unpredictable, unconfinable." ~ Clive Barker
The ogre looks down at dumbfounded Torvik covered in his brother's blood, "Maybe me too long gone from my kin. Or maybe the three have twisted some part of me head. The sisters are the chieftans of all above and below. The mudsingers of the path we walk," he drops to his knees as Thena tells him, almost appearing cowed by the three who still stand while his companions lie dead. Bryne, some of the damage done to her by his friends, now binds his bulky hands tightly.
Then suddenly appearing at the end of the passage, Torvik catches the welcome sight of Kade popping his head through, "Sorry it took so long commander. I'd have never gotten it clear if Morwen hadn't suddenly showed up with reinforcements. We've got it propped up now if you...." he pauses looking at the new prisoner, "you and the others want to make your way through. If that one can even get through."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Erel takes Athan's hand and shakes it, as a troop of guards suddenly ride up, "Welcome to the family sir." Garet moves to the newly arrived guards and starts to give them orders of where to take up positions. He also sends several down the trapdoor to help with recovering those below.
Mediphera grins at Niserie, "Oh we're fine, just glad there were only three of them and that you reappeared to save the day. I best go attend to the brave Wilwarin. One of them gave her a nice scratch with his knife." She moves to tend to the elven swordswoman's injury, leaving Nis with De'Athyra who reaches up and takes her hand.
Liviel walks over to Mave a smirk on her face, "What trouble did you cause for us now Lady Gallowhawk?"
Allies injured: Bryne -23 (of 30), Thena -1 (of 28)

Thena
After Bryne restrains their captive she'll cast light on her sword and check the back of the room, where did the voice in the dark intend to go?
If nothing pans out w/ that she'll loot the bodies for anything of interest
OCC: spell deducted.

Mave
Mave shakes her head, "More than I wish I assure you Liviel. Lets just say a lie to my family to gain my freedom. And now the return of you three puts me in a most awkward position. Though I am glad for your safe return of course." She bites her lower lip as if in thought for several moments, "Surely a smart girl like you can come up with a way out of my predicament," she then whispers in detail what has occurred.

"Huh... Thank you" - Athan manages to reply with a smile, then quickly looks around to find a way to make himself useful in the aftermath of the fight. If all is well in hand, he will look for Mave as soon as possible. Lying to others was not a simple thing for the young man.Revenant wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2024 5:56 pmErel takes Athan's hand and shakes it, as a troop of guards suddenly ride up, "Welcome to the family sir." “It’s so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone.” ~ John Steinbeck
Thena's sword lights the darkness on the far side of the cavernous room. Where the dark man's voice spoke, she can see the thin outline of a door with no apparent handle. Pushing and prying at the now magically sealed door has little effect. So she moves away to examine the bodies that lie within the room. The ogres and whatever monstrosities accompanied them, yields little, a pair of bone dice, a moldy half-loaf of bread, a cracked mirror and two stained playing cards (two of spades and seven of hearts). The mage however, is a different matter, he has a large red ruby in a coin purse hanging from his belt as well as a rolled up scroll in an ornate silver scroll-case hanging next to the coin purse. In addition to the ruby, the coin purse holds 12 gold coins and another single coin (you think) made of black obsidian, which you don't recognize. The others have no coin at all.
With your prisoner properly trussed up, you start to make your way along the passage which rains down dust and bits of mortar, when you are close to the end of the passage you hear a crash as it collapses behind you. You all make your way back up through the abandoned building, now no longer abandoned as numerous guards are within on either guard or search duty.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Outside is the sound of hoofbeats and wheels as three stately carriages roll up. Lord and Lady Gallowhawk are in the lead carriage and the lord pops out to get updated by his two sons as to what occurred.
Liviel talks conspiratorially with Mave, "Perhaps Athan will play along until we come up with a suitable solution." She looks his way.
As does Lord Gallowhawk after conferring with his sons.

Torvik shrugs "Dunno, get as many answers as we can from him and let him be free I guess. He did surrender an hasn't tried nothin' crazy er stupid with us since." the dwarf sounds like he is having a change of thought as to how to treat ogres and or other supposedly bad beings.

As soons as possible, Athan looks for an opportunity to address Mave without her brothers noticing - "We need to speak in private" - he urged her with a smile - "Before I am taken to meet your parents"

Mave
Mave looks on with alarm at the unexpected arrival of her parents. When Athan approaches, she readily agrees, "Let us move down by the scribe's shoppe. We can talk without being interrupted there." She then grasps his hand and leads him in that direction.

'I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.” ~ Robert Frost
"It seems our paths have once again convened Commander," Morwen says once Torvik and the others along with their prisoner emerge from the passage which collapses behind them, "I hope you and your recruits are all well besides Kade here who I found like a puppy digging for a bone when we came down." Kade's eyes widen at the sight of the Ogre, "Oh my," is all he manages.
When Thena asks the prisoner how he came to be in that room, the ogre frowns as if he himself is unsure for a moment before saying, "Sister Lamentations...she call, we came. We could do naught else. Three sister weave like the fated ones. They weave us into their flock." He stands quietly a moment, "Even now I hear mudsingers."
Above the underground room, her ladyship, dressed all in white, alights from the decorated carriage like a snowflake in flight. She catches sight of Niserie and De'Athyra and approaches. Lady Phillippa says with a smile, "My dears, are we ready for our foray to the Vagary fair?" She places a slim hand on De'Athyra's shoulder, "I imagine there will be all manner of entertainments." Her younger son Adwin stays in the carriage watchful as Mave and Athan start walking away briskly.
Liviel almost in imitation of Lady' Phillippa's actions places a hand on Athan's shoulder, "Call me if you need reinforcements," and for a moment Athan wonders if those words are meant for him or Mave. The two make their way to the other side of the scribe's shoppe, where Wilwarin was to meet her quarry.

Wilwarin allows herself to relax for the first time since deciding to spring the trap in the alley.Mediphera grins at Niserie, "Oh we're fine, just glad there were only three of them and that you reappeared to save the day. I best go attend to the brave Wilwarin. One of them gave her a nice scratch with his knife." She moves to tend to the elven swordswoman's injury, leaving Nis with De'Athyra who reaches up and takes her hand.
She smiles wanly at Mediphera: Thank you. I regret that I have put you to the trouble.
Now, I ought to apologise to Ruskin for the peril I led him into.
She clasps Mediphera’s hand, and goes to speak to the loyal man that she nearly led to his death. The hardest first, then to thank her other friends.
It seems pointless, now, but she pauses to take a closer look at the Scrivener's as she walks to speak them.

Nis hugs her friends when she is sure the danger has passed and curtsies when addressed by the lady Gallowhawk. Ah, of course! Once the rest of our group is ready we should certainly make way. She notes some of the others have gone off for private talk and serves as distraction. Oh my, that's a gorgeous dress! I couldn't imagine wearing something so fine! What all do you think they will have at the festival? Fortune tellers? Ooh, or games? I do so love the one pitching rings!
