Belloc
the owl stares at Ceana blinking in disbelief,

im not sure Crestos can squeeze in there, (he says to Ceana, then to the owl) i can shrink you Crestos (the owl's blinking stare now alternates between Ceana and Belloc) I don't think he's too keen on spelunking, (Belloc shrugs his shoulders)
well, we just need to make sure there was only one, maybe we can just probe with something, we know if if it comes out melted there's something there
OOC: will try to check if there's anything there, moves the sarcophagus lit to help get up and uses a dagger to probe or anything else, once done he continues

let's rest then, we'll figure out in the morning,

uses one of his light blanket to cover Maxon, the tries to secure the door closed with some spikes from his back pack and gets ready to rest

OOC: if we want to move forward, lets see if some of the wounded can regain consciousness in the morning, we have one locked door and the room with more sealed tombs

The Lost Mausoleum
Should We Stay Or Should We Go, Mid Afternoon

Belloc checks the cracks in the crypt's ceiling and finds them clear of any more slimy monsters. He covers Maxon's dead body with a blanket, glad they don't need to leave the poor man laying dead in the hallway for anything else that comes along to feed. He has heard rumors of people killed by the undead eventually rising up again themselves, but so far there is no indication that is the case here.

Whether they like it or not, they seem committed to barricading the door and waiting out the night inside. The stone sarcophagus can be pulled over to the door to block it less permanently. With only a few hours of light left in the day, the group tries to make themselves comfortable enough to sleep.

Actions?

If there are no other precautions you want to make, I will just need a watch order, if you intend to use one throughout the night. If the dice gods favor this endeavor, and nothing comes calling, I will push this action along to morning.

Tabhse

Sounds good to me.

Taibhse will continue to pray over the two unconscious party members, and will also say some prayers over the unfortunate Maxon's body. He will assist with moving the sarcophagus and any other work needed to barricade the door, or check the chamber out.

Works for Ceana. She will help move the sarcophagus into place to block the door while they rest.

The Lost Mausoleum
Surviving The Night, Early Morning

The sandstone sarcophagus is dragged to the door and used to block it from opening. Maxon's body is laid inside and Taibhse says a few words over the dead warlock before the cover is set into place again. A fitting ending to a man they all barely knew. Perhaps with his gem and notes in hand, his quest can eventually be completed as well, if the group survives the night, that is.

Before the light goes out, the small shrine in the back corner of the room is investigated closer. A very crude clay idol is found buried in some old rags that wasn't discovered initially. The idol resembles a python, and when it is shaken, a slight rattling noise can be heard coming from within. (I think I remember this area was only skimmed over during the battle, so I didn't want you to forget about it.)

With the unconscious Tuurma and Kain moaning and groaning throughout the night, the others wonder what they are doing together in the darkness. While Cormag is on watch, he hears some soft moaning outside the crypt door as well, but luckily nothing tries to break in through the door to investigate all the snoring. Crestos catches a couple mice and one lizard in the darkness, keeping the place clear of vermin while you sleep.

Though it is a long night, and the wounded are still in very bad shape, the next 16 hours spent in hiding and rest pays off. There are no intrusions or distractions, and the morning light eventually starts to shine weakly through the cracks in the ceiling overhead.

Actions?

Anyone resting through the night in relative comfort will regain hit points. (including the unconscious) So anyone injured can roll your Hit Die and add any Con modifiers to see how well you recuperated.

Tuurma wakes up eventually, shaking off not only her combat fever and nightmares but also almost completely recovers, in spite of all the hits she took during combat. It might seem quite unreal to some of you.

Regains hp: [1d12+1]=11+1=12

She sits up and looks at her torn clothing and the hand axe next to her - everything that's left in the way of weapons and armor.

"Where...did we kill them? Are we still here? And where's Maxon?"

Cormag replies We did, it looked pretty hopeless for a while, but we were able to defeat them one at a time. Sadly, Maxon fell to their greater numbers early on, and now rests in that coffin over there.

Belloc
being that his guard duty was the last one, Belloc takes the opportunity to make some tee for his new companions and offers to pour some as they start to wake up while he continues his studies for the day

he is surprised at Tuurmas recovery rate but stays respectfully quiet when she asks about the fallen member deferring to the more familiar companions to explain the situation

OOC: besides the information shared about Maxons mission, did he have a spell book?, im not sure of the rules for the different classes and if he used a spell book

That discussion was already started here: https://www.unseenservant.us/forum/view ... 73#p647773

Maxon's book contains:
Burning Hands
Sleep

Both of which are Magician spells.

Learning them can be attempted by any sorcerer, as long as it is a spell on their class list.

Taibhse

Looks over Kain and sees that he is still not recovered enough for him to bring him to consciousness. "I can making healing prayers for Kain again, but I doubt it will be enough for him to walk back to town. "I'd say lets carry him back so that if we find more trouble on the way I could heal someone else if needed, and if we make it back I can heal him before we go to the healer."

Tuurma, obviously having very vague or no memory at all of the fight looks around and down on her body.

"Where is my armor, and my blade?" Then she seems to recall bits and pieces. "Oh, fuck. And I'm almost broke as well. I'm going to need something bigger than this. Who's is it anyway?" She holds the hand axe in front of her.

After some things are (hopefully) explained to her.

"It is what it is, such is the way of life. We must bring Maxon back and give him a proper ceremony. We cannot leave him here to rise as an undead, that's for sure. Did we search this room for valuables? I need to be able to at least by myself a proper weapon when we get back."

Tuurma also accepts the tea offered by Belloc.

Ceana

The Kelt druid accepts the tea from Belloc with a grateful smile. Exhausted and half-sick about Maxon and Kain, she sits and sips her tea, smiling as Tuurma comes around. If given the opportunity, Ceana will break open the crude idol to see what is rattling inside.

The Lost Mausoleum
Surviving The Night, Early Morning

Belloc looks over the spell book from Maxon, hoping to find something useful. After Reading the Magic for about 30 minutes, he finds one spell he is already familiar with, and another which he desires to copy for himself. (This requires a successful "chance to learn new spell" roll first. [95% chance for his 18 INT] It also requires a comfortable writing area with the proper inks, quills, etc., and a full day of time per spell level. So, it isn't something I will allow to happen while out in the field, as it were.)

Though Tuurma awakens in the morning as if nothing terrible happened to her, Kain remains in very poor condition. The acid burns on his face and torso have worsened and his breathing has become labored stuck in this dry, old, dusty crypt for so long. The fighting woman looks over the remains of her once useful armor and weapon, realizing she needs replacements badly now.

Cormag and Taibhse try to fill in the blanks for their confused friend, the shaman looking over Kain closely, knowing the unconscious cleric will be hard to move through the Old City in his current precarious condition.

As the group eats a few morning rations and sips their warm tea, all thanks to their newest (still) uninvited member, Ceana's curiosity gets the better of her. She smashes the odd looking clay snake idol upon the stone floor, making a small mess of broken pottery and dust. Sifting through the remains, the spunky Kelt finds two tiny pill sized disks of some chalky substance. The discs are decorated to look like the eyes of a snake, but they harbor a strange chemical smell to them. A small note is found with the 2 discs, written in a tongue the young woman doesn't recognize.

Ceana

The druid holds up the note and asks, "Can anyone decipher this note?"
"Or identify these two small discs? Maybe they can help Kain."
She glances over at her companion, face etched with worry.

Belloc finds the note to be written in an ancient language he doesn't quite comprehend.

He and Taibhse both recognize that one of the five words appears to be written in (or shared with) the Latin language. That final word is "subitis", translated into the common word for "emergency".
