Silver Standard Merchant Company
Isvand enters the premises, and seeks out someone who looks like they're not the man in charge, but the one doing the actual work, and will come over and wait to be noticed and makes his request. Good sir, you look like a man of far reaching knowledge. Do you know where I could find, or who would know, an intelligent, trainable bird? Isvand will expand on what he's looking for if the man seems like he might know a merchant who deals in such things.
thinking a Cockatoo, Hahn's Macaw, or other fairly small bird that learn at least a dozen word vocabulary & can fly in inclosed spaces. failing that, a small raptor like a Sparrow Hawk or a Merlin. Isvand doesn't have a detailed knowledge of birds, so he wouldn't use necessarily use names, but rather what traits he is looking for - small, can fly in enclosed spaces, trainable, loyal, able to learn a vocabulary a bonus. Focus is on ability to scout and report, not as a "fighting" bird.

Sven's uncut emerald value [1d4+1]=1+1=2 x100gp
Sven's emerald appraised at 200gp value.
The now dull and not throbbing sapphires taken from the resurrecting skeletons each have a 100gp value.
The diamond from 'pitfall Pete' is worth: 3,000gp.
Diamond from pitfall Pete [2d4]=3 x1000gp
The gold rings are valued at 50gp & 100gp respectively.
The Silver Candlestick, makes a nice tableware item at 30gp value
The head worn circlet, designed into a wreath of entwined thorns is worth in the region of 120gp.
"Let's call it 4,250gp. A little over value to sweeten any deals." says the bespectacled gnome behind the counter.
"The emerald I might try to have cut to increase its value. You could do that here, I presume? This circlet is interesting to me, so I might hold onto that. I better hold onto the diamond for now as well."
"I would sell you the 2 gold rings, the candlestick, and the 6 sapphires. Would you offer 800 gold coins for those 9 items?"
The young mage isn't interested in arguing over the price, so he takes whatever offer the gnome lays out for the items he wants to unload.

Re: Helix village.
Sven's smile widens as he collects the 800 gold pieces and hands over the items.
"Thank you good sir! Would you like to look at one more item for me, please?"
The carrot topped mage slides the extra 8 gold Drakes across the counter for the jeweler to observe.
"Have you seen these before? I have heard they have a much greater value than our normal coins. What would you offer for the stack?"
He asks again if this is the best place to have uncut gems worked.

The Rosy Quartz Jewellers & Moneylenders
Gur Huwen checks over the gold drakes. "Interesting coins, dug up from the Mounds or the Moor no doubt. Used by the dwarves in the Moon Peaks in their ore mining and trade. Each coin is worth more though not locally. Here the merchants just treat one gold piece as common as another. Certainly I couldn't spend it locally unless the vendor was wanting to go to the Citadel. For this stack of eight I might concede twenty in return and perhaps when I take annual leave in some months I could spend them elsewhere. Of course if you went elsewhere yourself, then you might get more than twenty. Ah, the price of responsibility, family and business that tethers me here else I would be in a comfortable des-res, oak clad burrow with stained glass windows and comely wenches serving me all the apple strudel I could handle."
He talks regarding gemcutting. It is a specialised service and takes an inordinate time to shape the crystals with flush facets, highlighting inner sparkling veins and diminishing flaws. Mounting on gold rings or set in designer ware bling.
He assesses that a semi-precious gem usually gets 'cut' for around a third of the uncut appraised value with the hope to increase the finished value to at least double the base value. With precious stones like the diamond and emerald, the cutting costs around half the base value but increases the finished product, depending on customer wants (mounted in a gold ring, inset into a pendant, presented in a unique item like a tiara or crown, left as a neat gem), to at least double but usually triple and possibly much more.
In his own business skill level, he could theoretically triple value. Citadel artisans chiselling it with fine kryptonite edged cutters under sterile laboratory conditions might take six months labour at full base value cost but produce a sparkling gem quintupled from initial base estimates.
(There is an opposed skill roll the cutter is faced which increases value according to how successful they work.)
Pitfall Pete' diamond is already cut, you might squeeze out a bit more with some refining.
I try to note uncut and cut gems so you can figure approximate potential and actual values.

The Axe and Anvil Forge
Alternatively you could consider smelting the ingot and adding it's qualities into your own personal gear. A broadsword with some traits to accompany your shiny spear or some dwarven chain, robust and unbreakable?"
Turgen's Trade Goods and Mercantile.
Isvand is pointed to the main shop in the village. Entering you approach the owner, Turgen, a man much respected for his many export and import initiatives that keep the wheels of commerce rolling.
"Interesting. I see. Well we do have a number of exotic species in the village that folk like to have around. Some of the villas keep songbirds, the dwarven miners used to carry cages of canaries down the shafts with them. The Duchy nobles sport in falconry and rangers often bring back eggs to rear. Even the Carp Pool gamekeepers stalk the marsh on the back of trained Axebeaks would you believe.
Other winged creatures? Plenty of bees in the forest and bats in the church belfry. Fancy yourself as another mage do you? That one in the tower has a menagerie of all sorts. He might turn you into one just to test his latest madcap theory. Not in debt to him are you?
Enclosed spaces. Birds like freedom. Might be able to train a hawk in time. Folk seem to train anything these days, wolves and wargs spotted around town. Be helpful if you could train fleas, get them to leave their mangy fur.
Was some talk by Valeron of catching some of the silk weavers and training spiders. He might have the skill for it. If not him then his companion might. She can almost talk to beasts herself."
The conversation goes on, talking shop and supplies and problems along the trade routes. Basically he has no exotic birds in the shop but could import one from Ironguard if you wanted a specific normal creature. As to training, that might be down to you learning as a skill from another expert like a druid or ranger.
The Axe and Anvil Forge
Karl Barrelgut considers the question. "There are those who may seek to acquire such ingots for their own strategic purposes. But the dwarf forge has no grander ambitions than serve the community and keep the Hearth-Forge fires tendered." He refers to the fact that dwarven Moradin worship takes place around the forge. "I can make enquiries and get back to you at the tavern should a prospective buyer express interest and we can smooth any transaction.Orgoth

The young mage sets the fancy velvet lined silver coffers on the counter next, showing him the strange key they found and the weird Deal or no Deal box.
"What do you make of this stuff, friend? Any value here?"

"Stone box, nice bas relief edges, silver work hinges, lining mould free. All magic radiance gone from it now. I think once you make your choice it triggers the exchange and then 'puff', you have your cake and eat it.
I would need to create some new locks in place of the tabs if you want it repaired. Else sell or keep it as a fine storage box."
If you want to sell he offers 40gp, 'just for the nice design'.
He peers intently, poking and prodding with a scalpel and tapping the sides."Interesting box. The crpytex key is broken, see acid has dissolved the lock. Either/Or? You say it contained the coins? "

Sven smiles.
"40 gold seems reasonable enough to me. You have a deal, sir."
Pocketing the coins, Sven displays the second silver coffer, this one still filled with the strange magical key they found with the first ornate vessel.
"Can you tell me anything about this weird looking key?"

Gerdal goes shopping
At the Axe and Anvil Forge, you can buy the newly sharpened fine blades and either a belt pouch for the two to dangle from your hip or add some concealed fluff and fix them to some holster straps up a baggy sleeve in each arm
"If you really want to dress to impress, some of the ladies can do silk stockings and suspenders with a thigh strapped Dirk. Great for slicing a wandering finger off." is whispered. They add a fresh edge to your sickle blade as a complimentary.
At the Rosy Quartz Jewellers
"Ah, now see young Sven. This is more like the sparkly you should be tempting the young maidens with. Straight facets, radiant, crowned with splendour ... and that's just the customer."
Gur Huwen fawns a little over Gerdal, comparing the two, seemingly similar gemstones to the uncouth eye, with his beady appraisers spectacles on.
Gerdal's uncut emerald value [1d4+1]=4+1=5 x100gp
"A jackpot one this, several hundred gold at least, one of yours to two of his."
He offers a 'no quibble' 525gp.

Sven frowns and points back down at the key he inquired about without saying a word.
Re: Helix village.

The 'ahem' and tapping brings the proprietor back to business.
"The silver coffer is nice. Still gleaming, could do with a clean, are those spider webs. Blood stains can wash off. Not yours I hope?
So I will offer 40gp for the box just like the other.
The key, old, enscripted. Opens another box rather than a door or vault. Finely made. Key to a fortune or something held in reserve."

Re: Helix village.
Sven stops pouting and takes the offer.
“I doubt we will ever need the box again, so I will take that deal.”
He slides it over and pockets the magic key and the 40 gold.
“Why do I have the distinct feeling that the “Deal” we didn’t take from the last box has something to do with this key?”
He smiles at Gerdal, trying not to be jealous of her much nicer emerald.

Re: Helix village.
Ok just so I don't double bookkeep anything now, 1) the emeralds are individually owned but we just got a bundle offer for the two (to split between the two of us)? Or 2) all emeralds go into the party pool but have to be evaluated individually?
"Well Sven, I guess I'm just a lucky woman when it comes to gems and jewelry. I must have prayed to the right god, ha ha."
She gives Sven a tender "nudge nudge know what I mean" elbow and look.

Re: Helix village.
the emeralds have an appraisal value as shown in the macro.
As a general rule, if you are selling as a job lot, I would roll once and in character mention some might be worth more than others so the offer would be a median price.
If you divide the plunder and go individually, then you get individual appraisal rolls.
If you go elsewhere to a new location, you might get a better appraisal roll.

Re: Helix village.
Despite Sven’s penchant for whining, his player actually likes this idea a lot.
Brings an element of luck into the mix without all the hassles of trading items around when a certain character finds out they got something they can’t use. (which is sometimes the case after identifying magic items and such)
Sven’s fake smile remains on his freckled face.
“Oh, yes. I’m sure that offering of yours has something to do with all this. I should have lent you mine to have appraised instead of trying it myself.” He whispers a bit quieter. “I would take that offer if I was you. It’s almost 3 times what he offered for mine.”
