D20? Really?
How long have we.....never mind.

One More Excursion
Starday, 20th of Goodmonth
Early Morning, Sunny, Warm, Humid
As Pete rows the boat back away from the overhanging foliage, the boatmen’s earlier concerns are justified when Joe calls out a warning from the rear of the craft. “Whatch the vines!”
As the craft pulls away from the shoreline, a few long, sinewy brown vines drop from the overhead greenery, landing on the people in the front of the boat. When the party looks into the trees, they see some tall old friends that they didn’t notice in the jungle earlier. Apparently, the adventurers aren’t the only ones who have discovered the kobolds arrival.
Gramble and Alordan are able to slap the vines away easily, but Lerrick and Tlachtga are entangled by the woody tendrils entwining around them, finding their grip not only incredibly strong, but also quite painful. 2 dam The vines instantly become taught, attempting to pull their victims up and out of the boat.
Pete continues to paddle frantically, trying to escape the deadly foliage he feared, while attempting to keep everyone inside of the crowded boat. More of the vines shoot from limbs and drop from branches, trying to get at the delicious party.
Actions?
Anyone in the boat with a sharp weapon can attempt to hack at the vines attached to their friends, but attacks from the unstable, crowded vessel will be made at -4.

Carucenus
"Take the boat away from these things!"
The warrior tries to hack one of the vines holding Tlatchga...
Long Sword - To hit [1d20] = 10; Dmg: S/M [1d8] = 3 L [1d12] = 7 - 4 = 3

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Andronichishche is completely surprised at the appearance of the vines. His focus was alternating between the map, the casks, the shore, and the conversations, that he had scant presence of mind to notice the overhanging vegetation. After a few moments he reorients himself to the situation and quickly barks an order. "Fire! Someone, toss me your pack and I'll get a torch lit!"
If provided a pack, he will crouch low in the back of the boat and root out a torch and tinderbox, then work to light the torch.

Tlachtga
If she can use her scimitar she will try and cut herself free.
Scimitar [1d20-4] = 6-4 = 2 to hit [1d8] = 3 damage

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Alordan will slice at the vines if he can:
Long Sword Attack [1d20+1] = 11+1 = 12 (THACO=18)
OOC: 3d6, 1d20 - whatever it takes!

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Is there any loose rope in the boat?
Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Maag
Not wanting to swing a large sword in a crowded boat, Maag takes a swipe with his dagger.
Dagger+1, melee (THACO:17) [1d20] = 15; Damage S/M [1d4+6] = 4+6 = 10; Damage L [1d3+6] = 1+6 = 7
-4 makes that an 11, which hits AC6 if I did the math right.

There is a short 30’ coil laying in the bottom, but one end is still attached to the back of the boat.Quonundrum wrote:Is there any loose rope in the boat?

Andronichishche
Lacking a torch and not receiving any, Andronichishche realizes with his meager strength and skill, slicing with a dagger would likely prove futile. Quickly scanning the boat for a length of rope, he finds a coil attached to the stern. Andron grabs the rope a few feet from its attachment and attempts to pass it up to Tlachtga and Lerrick.
"Grab the rope!"
If they're both able to grasp it, he'll lean back into the stern of the boat, holding onto the other end with both hands.

Lerrick
A surge of fear spreads throughout the cleric's body. Keep trying everyone! If Tlachtga and I are pulled all the way up there we are dead! I've seen what these trees can do to a corpse. We will have no chance!
Lerrick reaches to grab the rope that Andron holds out for her and Tlachtga.

One More Excursion
Starday, 20th of Goodmonth
Early Morning, Sunny, Warm, Humid
The small craft pulls away from the foliage before any more of the vines make contact. Andron quickly tosses a rope to the pair of entangled companions who are now stuck in a painful tug of war for their lives. The vines continue to tighten, attempting to yank their prize from the boat. 4 dam Cu’s aggressive barking for his master only makes the chaotic scene louder.
Carucenus, Tlachtga, Alordan, Gramble, and Maag all attempt to sever the stretched out vines, but due to the poor footing in the badly rocking boat, Maag is the only one to connect. Even with his smaller blade, the huge thug is so powerful, he easily slices through the natural cordage wrapped around Tlachtga, freeing the Druid from her growing peril.
Lerrick appears horrified as she wraps the offered rope around her, begging that her friends spare her the pain of being devoured by these man eating trees. Andronichishche and Joe hold on to the rope as best they can in the precarious situation, the vines and the rope now tightening around the cleric even worse.

Maag
Maag tries again, but the rocking of the boat and the jostling of everybody inside it sends his swipe well wide.
Dagger+1, melee (THACO:17) [1d20] = 9; Damage S/M [1d4+6] = 2+6 = 8; Damage L [1d3+6] = 2+6 = 8

Andronichishche
Andronichishche desperately holds onto the rope while the others continue hacking at the constricting vines. He relaxes slightly in relief when Maag cuts the vine entangling Tlachtga, thus freeing her. As it becomes clear though that Lerrick wouldn't be so fortunate, an urgent sense of alarm erupts in his mind as he recalls how easily the vines dismembered the minotaur corpse.
Realizing that this stalemate would not continue much longer, he shrugs off his pack and draws his dagger, careful to keep one hand on the rope.
He steels himself by taking a quick breath and releases the rope, simultaneously lurching forward behind Lerrick to grab the taut vine, wrapping his wrist around it for a secure hold. Furiously he begins to saw at the vine as if to slice a rope in two ...
Not sure if this is an actual melee attack so included rolls all the same. He's more interested in making sure that if Lerrick is pulled off the boat, he goes too, so he can continue cutting.
[1d20] = 19, [1d4] = 4

Re: Quest #21 "Island Hopping"
Alordan tries again... but his previous experience with boats were much bigger than this little row boat.
Long Sword Attack [1d20+1] = 4+1 = 5 (THACO=18)

Tlachtga
Tlachtga attacks with her scimitar.
Scimitar [1d20-4] = 1-4 = -3 to hit [1d8] = 2 damage
That didn't go well.
