Sai

Looks to the wagons and gives Emeral a questioning thumbs up then states...

You good? Damn, I guess their will be no Elf foundling tonight. :( But that was a well planned ambush. Either these Orcs are getting smarter or someone is leading them. Let's loot the dead. Everything of value goes to one of the new wagons. Pass the word.

He dismounts Goliath and ties him to the back of the wagon. And moves up the road to the Centaur's position on foot.

To Andelpholies: We work well together. That was some good lance work.

He then Yells out to all. Is anyone injured and need healing? If so come to me behind the wagons on the road. If not, pick up all the weapons and valuables and throw them in to one of the extra wagons. I will check them for magic after I sleep. More money at the next stop for used weapons and armor. New swords for sale never swung and only dropped once.

Studying the dead Orcs and looking for any type of tribal insignia or common markings. Also looking for any weapons that look like they are good quality and checking for coin, jewelry, rings or valuables. Concentrating on the 6 to the rear of the wagon. He will pick out any nice looking long swords or hand axes he sees. He then moves to inspect the other wagons to see if any may be able to be driven. He will pick up everything off the Orcs and throw everything from the Orcs in the back of a drivable wagon.

Might as well increase our coin. If we can get both wagons moving and load up as much as we can that only increases our coin at the next stop and boosts the War Machine of the Good Guys.

Talon: Are you Ok out there? Return to me if you are wounded, I can heal you.

Cassius

Cassius winks at Malin and gets back to his feet.

He wipes his blade clean on the orc, then cleans it again. Sheathing the sword and reclaiming his bow, Cassius looks around at the carnage, especially the road orc.

"Damn. But now you've got to clean yourself." He says with a smile.

As Sai goes about looting and gathering, Cassius looks to the empty wagon and then to the horses. "Um. How are we going to drive another wagon?"

Emeral can drive it. Goliath can pull a wagon if need be. We can't leave the trail all jumbled up for another ambush, best to take them with us to sell at the next stop. Jasmalus can drive one. There is no need for 2 riders on each wagon. Besides having a spare wagon might prove handy if one of ours breaks down. Heck I'll drive it if no one else will.

Northern Furyondy, the citadel of Greatwall, 585 CY, the month of Patchwall, Sunday 9, early morning...Questions & Answers

While Andelphocles squashes the sleeping Orcs, and Muldgarr threatens the surviving Orc archer, Montego draws and fires at the fleeing Orc, striking it in the back and dropping it at the edge of the woods. With all of the Orcs dead or incapacitated, Sai begins searching the bodies for valuables.
I see...dead people.
(This from Talon, who is sitting in a pine tree along the edge of the woods.)

On the Orcs, Sai finds:
- 8 hand axes
- 8 broadswords
- 4 shortbows with crudely crafted arrows
- 60 copper pieces, 24 silver pieces

Rummaging among the wagons really doesn't turn up anything of value. One of the wagons is completed burned out, while the other two are also damaged...but one looks like it can be driven (blood-spattered, but good to drive if you have a horse or two).

Tell me why you’re group is attacking these caravans and what you’re doing with the travelers. You’re life may be spared, if the truth is spoke! Think, then speak!!

Muldgarr means business and the wounded Orc can tell it...so it is no surprise that the sniveling Orc begins to talk. It says they were ordered to attack a 3-wagon caravan. After they killed everyone, they searched the wagons, but couldn't find the documents they were ordered to find. So, they dragged the dead out to the woods and waited for the next caravan to come through...yours.

Actions?

He moves over to the damaged wagons and studies them to see if anything is salvageable if only for the raw materials like wood planks or spare wheels, etc. If there is any of this that can be salvaged, we should. Our own wagons could fall into disrepair, and it would be good to have some spare parts available to make a quick repair.

Walks the arm load of weapons 8 hand axes, 8 broadswords, and 4 short bows with crudely crafted arrows over to the wagon with the blood splatters and tosses them in the back. I will hitch Goliath to this wagon and take it with us. Andelphocles feel free to grab a couple wheels of that other wagon and toss in the back. I need to see to Talon. And if you would could you split this up between all of us me excluded. Try to split as even as possible. Good idea with the spare parts. Grab what is salvageable and add to the back of this wagon if you wish. No one else seems to want to take it so I will drive it.

He hands Andelphocies the 60 copper pieces, 24 silver pieces.

Talon did you say dead people? Not Dead Orcs? Show me.

Sai readies his bow and then moves off towards the Pine tree where Talon is roosting. And moves off the trail leaving Goliath tied to the Blood Spattered wagon.

OOC- A Medium Warhorse can pull a wagon right? Is there harness and tack on the ground or near the wagons something had to be pulling them.

Goliath protests as if disgraced, rearing and kicking and blowing, his ears laid back. He promptly hikes his tail and drops a pile of shit, whose aroma is not much more pleasant than the smell of dead Orc.

Sai walks to where Talon is roosting and almost immediately notices the pile of dead bodies...nine total...all very much dead and already drawing flies. One of the bodies has an elaborate dagger driven in the middle of his back...and his face looks strangely familiar.

I guess it would depend on how much weight is in the wagon. Anyone else want to chime in on this?

Laughs, watching the warhorse protest being hitched to the wagon as he begins prying usable planks from the damaged wagon. Tell them what you really think, cousin!

Hedge... just what might we be able to salvage? I was thinking planks or even firewood/charcoal and wheels. Admittedly I am no wagon expert, so I am sure there are more "parts" just unaware of them or how in detail you wanted to go here.

What I do know a thing or two irl about are horses. The traditional European warhorse is usually taller and more muscular than a traditional American draft horse. They use a different muscleset for their task though. Draft horses are also more docile where the warhorses were more lively.
Plus they were trained in different commands etc. I think it would be possible, just not ideal. Maybe reduce the encumbrance a little. I feel like, from working with horses, that once the horse had been hitched for a while, he would fall into the natural instinct of herd mentality and follow even if they were a little slower to follow direct commands. I were doing it, rather than riding on the wagon, I would put someone light on the horse itself to ride and guide as normal rather than using reigns. It would be more in the horse's skillset and would help keep him calm if unhappy.

Or... you could ask the centaur nicely and hope he doesn't take offense. ;)

OOC- I only tied him to the back of the wagon he was not hitched up that is why I asked if there was reins and tack.

Sai
Pulls his cloak over his nose and mouth And removes the dagger from the back of the dead person and gives it a look over. Will also look to see if any of them have weapons or valuables laying close. The Church must get it offering.

Hey Come look at this. More dead bodies.

What documents would orcs care about and for what reason ?? You better not be lying to me!!! He presses his sword harder against the creature’s neck.

Cassius

Cassius stows his bow after wiping some dirt off it, looking towards Malin when documents are brought up. "Documents? I thought we were taking supplies. What documents could even warrant this kind of attack?"

He waits for an answer when he hears Sai call out for assistance, directing his attention to the woods. He hops down and joins Sai. "Oh. That's nasty."

Keeping one eye on Muldgarr, knowing the treachery of most orcs, Montego quickly moves to where the dead bodies were tossed.

He looks over the familiar face, trying to place its origin, before grabbing a long stick from the forest floor to poke at and around the bodies to assure there is nothing dangerous hidden among them.

If it appears clear of danger, the huge human starts going through possessions, trying to locate any documents or other clues he might find.

Exactly what you said > an extra wheel or two, some planks, charcoal, etc...what you might expect on a wagon; the teamsters on the other wagons will know what to take.

Cassius and Montego wander over to where Sai stands over the bodies. These are not warriors or guards...just merchants and teamsters, innocent and murdered for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The dagger Sai took from the back of one of the men is quite intricate...(roll me a Wisdom check for those looking at or handling the dagger...)

But the man killed by it...looks very much like Jasmalus, one of the merchants in your caravan.

After helping the teamsters however he can, he will assist in loading the salvaged materials into the other wagon, carefully, of course, as to not damage anything and keep the load balanced and practical.  He will then turn to the 60 coppers and 24 silver coins.  He figures 12 coppers to everyone and 4 silvers to each.  He will then when passing out the coinage to each member ask their opinion about keeping any remainders from an uneven pot in a "party fund" for buying of miscellaneous equipment or other emergency needs, displaying the 4 extra coins.  I of course, volunteer to hold onto this fund unless someone has objections. I'll happily defer to the group's overall opinion.

Once that business is done, unless there is an immediate need, he will move to the side out of the way of others and tend his wounds, making sure they are clean and that he has nothing needing attention.

Holds up the dagger for all to see. Wisdom is 16. [1d20] = 10 Wisdom for Dagger

These are just normal people why would the Orcs just kill random Merchants? This makes no sense at all.

Sai moves back towards his horse lost in thought. Holding the dagger in hand like a divining rod out in front of him. Mumbling to himself. Why would Orcs? Merchants, Teamsters, Burning Wagons and Not keeping the valuable stores. Why?

He walks to Jamalus, What is going on? Why does this man look like you? Do you have ties with him?

Looks at his companion. They're orcs. What more reason do you need?

Yes, That is the point. They are Orcs, dumb and unorganized, killing on a whim. Yet these here are looking for a specific caravan and government documents when most of them can't even read. Orcs don't think like this, they shag sheep and pigs for their pleasure. And wage war on their neighboring tribes. Someone else is leading them, this is no Orc plan.

He turns and walks to the sniveling orc. Draws his sword on the way their. And runs his hand over his hair to expose his elven ears.

In Orcish: Who do you work for? As you well know I am an Elven Wizard, we live for hundreds of years. I will live to find new ways to make you talk. Tell me the truth or you shall be turned into a squirrel and shall live your days running from my Owl. Do you think Grummish One-Eye will receive a Squirrel into his kingdom. NO, HE WILL NOT! Give me a description or a name!

Cassius

Wisdom (13): [1d20] = 3

As they find the body of Jamalus, or his look-alike, Cassius suddenly gets very wary. He pulls both his blades and moves back towards the wagons. As Sai lets the secret out of the bag, he winces but keeps his eyes on their Jamalus.

He says nothing as Sai first interrogates Jamalus, then the orc. Cassius's focus remains on Jamalus, moving within striking range of the man and watching for any sudden movements or mutterings.

Northern Furyondy, the citadel of Greatwall, 585 CY, the month of Patchwall, Sunday 9, early morning...Answers & Revelations

Sai asks questions about the dagger and Cassius takes a closer look at it. The Elves realize the butt of the dagger pops open with a click to reveal a hollow shaft in the hilt. A shaft for liquid...for poison. This is an assassin's dagger! Cassius draws steel and looks around warily, backing toward the wagons.

Sai asks more questions, first to himself and then to Jasmalus.
What is going on? Why does this man look like you? Do you have ties with him?
A look of sorrow comes over the face of Jasmalus, as he walks toward the dead bodies. Upon seeing the dead, he swallows several times to compose himself before answering, "That...is Jetero...my twin brother. Like me, he is...was a merchant in the service of Furyondy. His train traveled these roads quite often. He...they need to have a proper burial. Who will help me?"

Filled with anger, Sai stomps over to Muldgarr and the Orc prisoner. Drawing his sword, he stands over the Orc.

The Orc is terrified and tries to squirm away from Sai. "Please! No know name! Just follow orders! Told to stop 3-wagon caravan, search merchant for proper writings...no know why. Just obey. No kill! No kill!"

You are not worth my Magic. Muldgarr, he is your prisoner. Do what you wish. He will not tell us anything more of value. If there are wounded have them come see me before we head out.

He turns and leaves as fast as he showed up. Moving back to Goliath, Sai rummages through his saddlebags until he finds a small sack, pulls it out of the bag and grabs a broad sword from the wagon and moves back up the trail behind the wagons and steps off the trail and starts to plant acorns while mumbling a prayer to Ehlonna.

Using the broad sword to stab a hole in the ground and drop a seed into. After about 10 seeds he stops and heads back to the orcs and grabs any armor left on them and takes it to the newly acquired extra supply wagon.
