"Wait. This far east?" Gardo looks to the east then west trying to see things. After a moment, he stops. "So, where were you going to go when you stole all that gold? How far is this place that..... Ga..something or another, is waiting for you to return with the gold?"
The Boss

"It's about . . . I don't know how far, as the crow flies. It took us four days to get here, though. We had mules, but lost them to these enormous wolves about a day from here."

Newton also sees the truth in this response.

"That is some comfort to know, and I do think you are being honest with us. My friend is correct, the Baron will not be so gentle in obtaining this kind of information. What gesture are you looking for?"
The Boss

"I assume it would be too much to ask for you to let my men go. They were just following orders, for the most part, and aren't bad people, in general."

The thought and maybe they can get help, or try and free us! flits across his mind.

Newton frowns

"I dunno, that's a big ask, the Baron will be suspicious if we just turn up with you three. I'd need to discuss it with the others, as there'd be some personal risk to us, we don't want to get on his bad side. Is there anything you can tell us to sweeten the deal?"

"You're not thinking of going after Gajo yourselves, are you? That's insanity. His fastness controls the approach into the valley, and there's at least one hudred and fifty, maybe even two hundred of his men there. We're just one small band in his gang."

Again, he seems to be telling the truth.

Newton

"Now I know that, probably not! I need to discuss this with the others"

He'll talk to the others out of earshot of the chief, quickly bringing them up to speed with the immediate question and getting their thoughts on the matter.
ooc: Does Newton have any idea how much longer the potion will work for?

Gardo

"Yeah. Enormous wolves. Best to think of where they encountered them so we are ready for it. Not worried about the bigger boss, sounds like he's several days away. May be some time before he realizes these guys are not coming back."

As he discusses the situation with his companions he feels the effects of the potion fade, the babble of thoughts from those around him subsiding and, finally, vanishing from his mind.

Telemachus

The mage picks up all of the coins and gems and places it in his pack. He lets the others know that he's not claiming it for himself, just making sure it gets back to Junction with them.

He then begins to examine the sorceress' book while waiting for the others to finish interrogating the Boss.

On the way back to Junction, Telemachus will chat with Casfrea and attempt to learn more about her background, upbringing, loyalty to her employers, and skill with a blade.
Telemachus is ready to go.

The book is a spellbook. Pretty slim -- thinner than the one that Telemachus carries with him -- and a number of the pages are damaged. What spells it contains, and how many of the pages are still legible, will require further study.

Casfrea proves to be talkative when Telemachus engages here; perhaps there's something she likes about the mage, or has resigned herself to her fate. "I was born south of here," she says, "in a small village on the other side of the Basilisk Hills. I was always big for my age, and stronger than most of the boys -- hell, most of the men -- in my village. One of Gajo's gangs raided the village years ago, when I was maybe, sixteen? I was one of the few that put up a fight, and one of them knocked me out and when I woke up I was a prisoner. I worked hard, and proved myself, and pretty soon they started training me to wield a blade. And then, you know . . ." her voice trails off and she stares off into the distance. "Shit happens, you know? I was no longer a teenage farmgirl but a seasoned warrior. The Boss's right hand."

Gardo

If Gardo notices Telemachus talking with the woman warrior, he will get near him and speak with him away from the woman.

"I am not here to tell you your business. If you think you might hire her, you may want to do some of your magic to make sure she can be trusted. Her outburst makes me think she is a bit bloodthirsty."

Thirdmonth, Seventhday

The adventurers return to Junction following Telemachus's suggestions. The guards at the bridge are astounded to see them return, a score of bound prisoners corralled along. "Um, I guess you should go see the Sheriff posthaste," says one of the guards. "And there's a fellow named, uh, Feargus looking for you. Says he knows you guys. You'll find him at The River's Edge."

“I think a little bloodthirst is why she’s still alive. And it may end up being a good attribute for a bodyguard. But thanks for your thoughts. I’ll keep them in mind.”

“Well, you look like you need a new Boss and I need a new right hand. I’ll make you a deal. You watch my back, and avoid putting a dagger in it yourself, and I’ll keep the Baron and the bandits out of your life.

And you get a half share of whatever loot our outfit makes.”

Telemachus gestures at the guards. “Take your time deciding... but deal’s off once the Sheriff shows up.”

Casfrea

It takes her but a moment thought. "My blade is yours," she says.

“You wanted in town? Known on sight as a bandit? What do I need to do to keep the Sheriff from taking you away in irons?”

The woman looks around, slack-jawed. "I've never seen a city this big." It is clear this is her first time in Junction. She suggests she might want to stear clear of any Law, but allows her name or face is probably not well known.

Telemachus

The mage tells one lieutenant to give Casfrea one of the dead horse archers’ horses. He tells the other one to take the fallen horsemen’s bodies to the local priest.

He gives 10 gold to the lieutenant and tells him to spend it on drink for the men.

He’s ready to see the Sheriff.

Aldus: "Give my regards to the Sheriff, lads. And if he's in the mood to dispense awards, don't forget my share. I'll go meet this Feargus and see what he wants. Come along, Wulfka."

Feargus
Inside The River's Edge

A short, powerfully built blonde haired man stands upon a table drumming his hands into his thighs and leading a boisterous drinking song. When Aldus enters the taproom he throws up his hands, "You left without me! I can't believe it! Don't tell me it was Telemachus' idea. A man stays up into the wee hours entertaining his new friends and before he knows it, he's been left."

He stairs down Aldus for another second before dropping his hands and restarting his song with a wide smile on his face.
Glad to join the game.

Newton also goes to see the Sheriff with Telemachus and Gordo.

On the way he asks, "So, how much of the information we uncovered do we want to tell the Sheriff? It might be useful to ingratiate ourselves with him and the Baron. Although, some of it they might be able to get our of him themselves."
