Theo ventures innocently, So when you've retrieved the book we need, then we'll do the books trade? That's the plan?

BJ nods. "Correct, I will get your book, and then we will trade for this book you have just shown me."

"We can infiltrate the underground together, with your group acting as my security team in case we run into unexpected trouble. But I want to make some arrangements and do a little research into this before we start."

"Where are you staying while here? I can come and find you tomorrow after I make the proper contacts. And together we will set our plans into motion."

"And one more question.......are you willing to tell me who asked you to retrieve this book I shouldn't open?"

"My friends call me BJ, by the way, so you can too."

"Thank you, Miss BJ. We were staying at Ye Olde Tavern, but last night's lodgings nearly depleted me of my coins. I am unsure where we plan to stay until tomorrow. Our employer is Zuhma, the wizard. It was his ... former ... apprentice Stiller who stole the book for Stalks. We don't know what reward he received for his act of betrayal."

Torbath

Torbath will jump up as Andron starts the sentence "Our employer is ..." jumping in a saying "confidential for the time being." Attempting to cut off his friend for the moment.

As Andron drolls on in his usual stolid, wooden manner (Bueller? Bueller?), he pauses when Torbath interrupts him. "Ah ... perhaps Mr. Torbath is right. We do know the man who stole the book, though. A short, balding man, by the name of Stiller ..."

Maag

Maag watches the conversation play out. On the one hand, he wonders about the wisdom of trusting a stranger. On the other, he'd rather see a stranger get killed than himself.

I can downsize this encounter to fit the players who are still actually playing, so we can easily roll with a smaller group here and ignore our absentees. Not sure it will make much difference anyway.

BJ seems to have a good mental picture in her mind as to how this will all play out. She catches Androns drop of Zuhma's name, despite Torbaths attempt to stifle the information. "Ah, Zuhma you say? I know the old wizard to be a good man, so I can only assume his part in this is legitimate."

She looks nervously at both Alordan and Feanol again, unsure why they are acting so strangely. "The two of you can remain behind on this one, if you have such little desire to join us."

She waves off the information about Stiller, thinking him to be little more than someone out for an easy payday.

"Be in the tavern promptly at noon tomorrow, and I will lead you to a place where we can infiltrate the living quarters of Stalks and company. If you want to be even more helpful than acting as hired swords, silence and invisibility magic will come in quite handy for this job."

"Oh, and one more thing.......we won't need your guide any longer, so please remove that one from the equation."

He makes ready to leave for the tavern. "Understood. I can provide silencing magic, and Mr. Torbath can provide invisibility. We also have magic that can help with locating the book. Zuhma showed us an image of its appearance."

Maag

Having heeded the "trust no-one " warning at the beginning of their mission, Maag already had his eye on Percy. He leans in, wondering what he's about to learn.

Then he wonders if he can trust what he's about to learn...

Alordan wonders also what could be wrong with Percy. "Well, in his defense, when it all went wrong in the sewers he was there ready and committed with a blade..."

BJ looks to Torbath. "Dark Creepers are notorious for doing bad things, and I don't know one of them who is actually trustworthy. So you can choose.......him or me."

She stands from the table to escort your group back to her front door, looking through the magic glass once again to check on the conditions outside.

"If you want to work with me, you must agree to keep ALL of these details to yourselves. The more people who know what we are about to do, the better chance of it failing. Does everyone here understand that? And before you ask, yes, that means Zuhma too."

"Understood. It is entirely plausible Percy is the subject of divinations. I suggest we tell him to wait for us at Zuhma's house, that we have an additional lead deeper into this neighborhood and his presence would be a hindrance. He's already aware of prejudice against his kind here, so that should be acceptable to him. If he is being monitored, that should also deter pursuers, for a while, at least."

Awaiting a possible argument from Torbath that doesn't happen, the group eventually agrees on a plan to tell Percy to meet them back at Zuhma's home while they investigate another lead.

The unspoken Dark Creeper just shrugs his little shoulders and does as he is told, heading back out of this portion of town.

The Blue Jester seems content with this concept of a plan so far. "Very good then. I will meet you for lunch at Ye Olde Tavern at noon sharp tomorrow. "

"Well, that was not exactly what I was expecting, yet we have something else to follow up on in this neighborhood, at least. I'm sorry you cannot accompany us, Mr. Percy, but I know you are not especially welcome in this area. Please lead us back to the tavern we stayed in last night."
