"It's that strange smell again," Sik says to the others. "I think the beds might be our only option for making a raft. Though we'll have to break them down to get them up the stairs."

"Hold on, Drest, we need some light. He looks at his companions behind them down the corridor. "We don't hear or see anything, but it smells earthy and weird. Can any of you bring a torch? We can't see anything."

Drest will summon his sword's light.

[Karaunios]

Akhilleus

"Ok. No need for light sources. Drest has one." The warrior enters the room while the scout explores.

"Earthy and weird? Like those snake people you met? They're down here alright, watching and waiting." Kain finds himself in the rear and feels the dark creep up behind him. "Let's get closer in case they need us."

He urges the group to shuffle forward.

Using the light from his newly acquired magical blade, Drest moves up to the door, but is unable to locate any tracks along the stone floor of this room.

Kain pushes the others forward to lessen the gap between the two groups, now certain the stink is coming from the snake men they encountered earlier. (as is Drest)

With nothing moving inside the huge circular room before them, the conversation eventually returns to smashing the beds in the last room.

"Perhaps those with ranged weapons could stay on guard while others get working on deconstructing the beds," Sik suggests in a low voice.

He makes towards a bed, and tips it over to look at the construction and decide how best to break it up into long planks to begin building a raft. If there are linens in good condition, he'll start winding those into ropes to tie the planks together, hopeful that others will join him.

The Ixian nods and takes up guard position.

Akhilleus joins in the raft making.

He will use his mace to break pieces of wood, though he will do so with some care and not with violent strikes. It’s the best tool he has at hand in the absence of an axe. He doesn’t want to dull his sword.

Drest stands guard.

He lends a hand to the deconstruction of the beds. "Hey, Drest. When did you get that glowing sword? What's the story there?"

He lends a hand to the deconstruction of the beds. "Hey, Drest. When did you get that glowing sword? What's the story there?"

"You were with me when I found it Kain."

Meanwhile Magda has been quietly trying to help with the work on the furniture, but she gets up and approaches Kain and Drest when these words are spoken.

"Kain's prayers may have healed your body, but evidently not your mind," she says to Drest in a gently mocking tone, then turns to the cleric. "Drest and I found it at the bottom of that cliff, after chasing off the pig-demon, when we searched in the rubble of a ruined tower. I think you were with the others by those giant mushrooms, Kain. I spotted it first by the glint of that ruby on the pommel. See how big it is? I still think that could be THE gem."

To be fair to Kain, I had forgotten that whole scene.

Still No Idea On Time Or Day

While most of the group returns to the barracks room and starts dismantling the beds they found, Drest and Xenos take up a position at the end of the hallway to keep a watch out for whatever has left behind the earthy smell.

As the first bed is smashed, the two posted guards both spot a lone figure slowly moving towards the noise the others are making. It starts from the other side of the statue base and heads in a straight line directly towards their open door.

It is still too far away to be able to tell exactly what it might be, but it is humanoid in shape, with a large head, and that smell of dirt seems to follow it as it heads towards the doorway.

Whispering just to Xenos, "Something coming our way." He readies his sword and watches carefully.

Xenos whispers to Drest "Let us fall back to the bend and warn the others. We can ambush it there."

Akhilleus, not knowing about the man approaching, continues with the construction of the raft.

As soon as they say something to him, he will draw his sword and take a defensive stance.
