Re: First patrol:
Rex Looking at the situation he grins and grabs a frag grenade off his web belt and pulls the pin with his teeth before throwing it at the VC moving forward, aiming between those in the lead and those just behind them for maximum effect. Ear this, Chop Sticks!

Marco Cherrulo. M-16 semi-auto vs 78 BE/ cover. [1d100]=59 [1d100]=83 [1d100]=55
Suppresses the duo of VC hiding in the stream embankment, his bullets ripping up more divots around their heads.
Diego Eisen focuses on helping the mortar bombardments from behind the Buddha statue.

Yup. There are times to be the hero, and there are times to support the other heroes.
Re: First patrol:
July 10th 1968.
6.48am. Weather dry, hazy and clear skies. Visibility limited to 25 metres in dense jungle. Clear view over half of rope bridge, obstructed view beyond. Clear view over trail junction and trail by falls. Dense jungle fringe.
The patrol experience various stressed of combat. Kelly after getting plugged by the bullet gets plugged by the surgical triage of James. His blood loss is staunched and while he is not as good as new he is good to go.
Unlike Cinead who had to dig a dumdum round out of the machine gun chamber. He keeps his head down in the foxhole. Marco fires at those behind the embankment who keep their heads down from the burst of rifle fire.
Corporal Rayburn and Glyndwr combine to annihilate the plucky VC runners charging at you with grenades. Rexlin pops in one of his own for good measure. The three end up as mashed as the tin of corned beef chomped on earlier.
Diego and Ezekiel launch another round of high explosive which erupts behind the dense foilage. You can estimate where it lands by the splintered branches and limbs dangling from the blood splattered trees.
The VC have taken a pounding but remain committed to the cause.
The pair behind the boulder shoot up at cliff but their bullets are wasted. The duo on the embankment return fire. The red cross on a white armband seems a pretty good target and the team medic James takes one for his troubles. -7hp
The treeline shootists keep up their target practice, the rounds fly over your heads. You note the gunfire has become a bit more spread out as the VC hunker down behind thick trunks and undergrowth thickets.
next round actions and attack rolls please.
Rexlin. I didn't roll grenade damage as the guys would have died anyway.

"When you're hot, you're hot!" Diego grinned, and grabbed the next round. "There's a group close by the ones you just sent to wherever. Let me see if I can send them some friends."

Has 'Little Richard', his grenade launcher to hand. So while Diego goes long with a mortar round he will punch a grenade off to zero in on those by the boulders.
Ezekiel uses grenade launcher vs 80% [1d100]=73 damage [1d100]=61
"Duck or grouse, that beauts' a slam dunk if ever there was."" he says as he arcs one in at short range.

Re: First patrol:
James takes a bullet which grazes his shoulder. With some first aid and hasty triage he recovers 6hp. The foxhole he shares with Kelly and Glyndwr begins to look a bit of a bloody mess.
Corporal Rayburn fires at the embankment and then rolls out of the middle foxhole to join Cinead and assess what is happening on that flank. With some 'in country' experience of the VC tactics he notices the rifle fire on your left is more stretched out and assumes the remaining enemy are spreading out, moving through the jungle fringe to flank that side and gain the ground on the other side of the falls.
He shouts an instruction to the mortar crew to lob the subsequent rounds in that area to stop them opening up a second assault front.

Re: First patrol:
Kelly "Waves" English
After getting patched up, Kelly checks the shoulder and feels he is good to get back in the fight. He positions himself where he can see the treeline, waiting for someone to shoot at the squad. When he sees where the shots are coming from, he will return fire. His first shot misses as he does not wait to bring his weapon fully on target. The next two rounds, however, find their mark.

Re: First patrol:
July 10th 1968.
6.49am. Weather dry, hazy and clear skies. Visibility limited to 25 metres in dense jungle. Clear view over half of rope bridge, obstructed view beyond. Clear view over trail junction and trail by falls. Dense jungle fringe.
James bandages his bullet wound. Despite copious amounts of blood, the wound is clean and after treatment fairly negligible. Beside him the machine gun fire superiority of Glyndwr punches through the undergrowth keeping heads down or blowing them off. Kelly fires into the jungle, picking out the movement of a shadowy figure and nails a sniper trying to climb high in the branches.
In the middle foxhole, Marco aims at the pair in the stream embankment, strafing them with accurate fire and they roll over and slide face down into the shallow waters. Rexlin brings down a VC who makes a dash for the trail. The bullets enter his back and exit his chest, he falls to his knees and collapses.
Cinead, combines with Corporal Rayburn to target the VC pair sheltering behind the large boulders. They tag one each then for good measure, Ezekiel lobs in a grenade which sends the bodies, shards of rocks and pebbles into the air.
Diego triggers another mortar round down the trail then the pair set about adjusting the angle of fire and range to use their remaining projectiles to trace the flanking manuevre of the VC.
After taking a barrage of hot lead, the VC peasant contingent has been blitzed and you receive just sporadic and wild rifle fire in return which ricochets off the Buddha statue behind you. After less than a dozen pot shots, fired more in hope than expectation, the jungle goes ominously quiet.
"Sound off, weapons check." Rayburn orders as he monitors the situation. He receives back affirmative responses and you all do an ammo check, replacing nearly empty magazines with fresh ones. As he moves on the cliff edge between foxholes he still gets targeted by a couple of shots that whiz buzzing bullets through the air to impact once more on the visage of Buddha. Despite the transgression, he remains smiling and impassive to it all.
" Diego, keep lobbing them in on the flank so they don't get any funny ideas. Glyndwr, keep them suppressed and not moving through the trail. Rexlin, Marco, you pair secure the bridge. It's time we were on the move. Find a way down that ravine on the right so we don't expose ourselves by coming along this trail beneath us. Kelly, let's surf the radio waves. Contact intelligence at the Firebase.
Eyes peeled everyone, shoot at any sight or sound."
next actions please.
Alertness and any skill check relating to Point skills from Rexlin & Marco.
Kelly, RTO skill check.
Diego, just roll three damage as you loose the last of the mortar rounds. Instead of lugging the VC mortar back, Ezekiel can disassemble it by stick a grenade down the barrel.
Cinead & Glyndwr, James & Rayburn roll Alertness. If successful, you spot a VC creeping about and can fire (-40 pen for cover) or just 'fire blind' at a 1% chance.

I like the idea of busting the mortar barrel beyond use and not lugging the extra encumbrance about.
He helps Diego 'seek and destroy' with the last three rounds then gathers his kit to follow across the rope bridge when it is secured.
" Corporal Rayburn Sir. What's the plan? Do we hike back or stay on the mission to the Montagnards?"

"Roger that, rain on their parade," Diego said. He took note of the flanking area, planned his shots, and let the mortar do its thing. "Zeke, give me that grenade, I'll set it up to go as soon as everyone else is away. I'm not carrying the same load as you are."
Three Mortar rounds [1d100]=81[1d100]=83[1d100]=26
Diego isn't carrying a lot of weight, and he can take rear guard. He can leave the firebase last and get down quick, so the grenade in the pipe doesn't risk anyone.

Re: First patrol:
Rex
Wonders if this is the same excitement that inspired his so many greats grandpa to be a pirate. He grinned and liked to think so, and that his maker had endowed him with the same joy for this kind of work for just this purpose. He quickly checked his weapon and nodded. Rex here Corp.
All good here, ready for more!
Yes, Corp! Marco? I'm rolling out first, keep my six covered until I get to that bridge, then I will cover you from there, okay? Here goes!
The colossal cajun will jump, pulling himself out of the foxhole and making a beeline for cover near the bridge, keeping low and using whatever cover he can find before swinging around and bringing his rifle up to make sure he is ready to pop-shot anything that moves other than his buddies. Once they are both at the bridge and sure they are "safe" he will begin looking for a path down the ravine.
Weapons Check

Alert:
Nice hot flaming way to take them out if they follow us and take out the bridge from the middle too.

Having fired he checks the weapon again.
