Shmehk looks disappointed

"Let's get going before we are discovered" he says to his companions.

"Agreed. What happened to the rest of his valuables, I wonder? This hardly seems enough to justify wild animals and a magical door of fire!"

Shmehk shrugs

"It is a bit strange, why move all the other things but these, unless he sold them to buy his latest bauble."

Raamiz brightens and claps his hands together in excitement. "Yes! Perhaps that is it--perhaps this key, it is very valuable? But! We can determine that once we have taken our leave of our host."

"Well, the gems, amethysts, are worth a pretty penny on their own. But I am wondering if it may be worth more than just that. It is a key after all, and so must grant access to something!"

If you are leaving, are you going up the shaft, or out the door?

Shmehk votes for the door, if the shaft leads to the kitchen there will be way too many people around.

We should also take 1 item each.

Fiapy:

"I vote the door unless we can get that grate open."

Ok, sounds for the moment like door...

Who is talking what... money bag, box of papers, and... are you taking the coffer,or just the key?

How much bigger is the coffer compared to the key? Maybe we should check that there isn't a secret compartment in the coffer with the real key and the one we found isn't a diversion.

The coffer is more portable than the box of business documents. For scale, let's say the box is about the size of printer paper, and carrying it will be encumbering, while the coffer is about the size of a shoe box. You certainly could hide something else in it besides the key, but it's not immediately obvious if there is something hidden in it.

Shmehk thinks we should take the coffer.

Raamiz will quickly shuffle through the papers to see if anything incriminating or valuable can be found, then shove that box back on the shelves, brush his hands off, and nod.

Alright, then... Raamiz, please give me an intelligence check to see if you can quickly find something like that in there

Intelligence check (Int 14): [1d20] = 17

"Looks like...receipts and such. Nothing interesting. I think this might be a recipe for stew."

Raamiz finds a bundle of papers relating to a grain merchant named Lord Suttar. It caught your eye because some of the papers have the same symbol as the ring Shmehk found in the litter box. These might prove worth going through in more detail...

"Wait! These look interesting." Raamiz rolls up several pages and tucks them into his sash. "Now, let us make our escape!"

Ok, given the "one thing each" idea, that means Rasmiz takes these papers he found in the box, Shmehk takes the cover & key, and Fiapy takes the money pouch. And you're going out the door to the cellar. This sounds right?

Then make any tweaks to this, as needed, and Fiapy please give us a luck roll.

You head back out of the vault, into the jaguar room. As you are going around the pile of stuff stacked to give access to the shaft, Fiapy notices movement in the shadows of the storage room. It looks like someone has set up to ambush you as you leave the vault!

Luck: [1d20] = 16

Is this in one place or spread out around the room?
