Earc Orctongue

Earc waits for Amistad to come down on the morning of the 27th so they can begin planning their third (and hopefully final) assault on the troll quarters.

"We have the light source problem figured out. Now we just need to figure out how to permanently destroy such a creature. The biggest challenge being that we cannot carry an open flame underwater to the lair, which means we'll have to create it there. It is possible we could purchase some sort of a dry bag from one of the merchants. We could use that to carry kindling and tinder and torches. Once we get to the cave, you could cowl the creature against the back wall for a moment to give me time to light a fire and our companions can attack it from a distance with javelins or spears. Hopefully by the second round we'll have a fire and torches and oil ready to burn the thing once we've cut it down."

"After the fire is lit, I can help with a new spell I've learned. It is a magical energy spell; I'm not sure if the creature can regenerate that sort of damage easily..."

Earc Orctongue

After agreeing to head out after the festival on June 1st, Earc heads over to the merchants' tents to see about acquiring a waterproof bag (heavily waxed canvas bag with a rolled closure should suffice for the need)...

The group of Fingers McGraw, Baxtaw Greayburst, Casper White, Clay Weatherwax, Corbin the Lucky, Grizzly Woman, Halfpint, and Silent return to town late on the afternoon of 13 May through the northern gate. They rest in and around the town until the current date of 25 May.

Below is from their end-of-expedition. Please note how you're handling room and board in a post here.
Timestamp: You all enjoy a well-deserved rest in town, from 13 May to 25 May to match the current time stamp. You can leave, but will miss the Greenleaf festival. Assuming you stay for the festival, we extend your stays to 02 June. That is 20 days in town, which gives you two weeks of rest to earn bonuses. Please post in the Golden Tooth Tavern to account for your stay.

- you can pass the time for free at the Infirmary. You get no bonuses, and need to post a confession IC.
- you can stay in the common room for 5cp/night, or 10sp total.
- If you need private rooms (to study or do magic things, for example) then you can get a basic room for 2gp or a suite for 6gp.

- If you buy poor meals, you can pass the time for 2gp total. You get no bonus.
- If you buy common meals, you can pass the time for 6gp total. You get +1 to savings throws for the first two days of your next expedition.
- If you buy good meals, you pass the time for 10gp total. You get +2 savings throws for the first two days of your next expedition.

You can organize and begin an expedition as soon as you wrap up the treasure and such, if you like, as it will set out on June 2 and run concurrently with the Greenleaf Festival.

Halfpint will sit to a decent, common meal. She plans to stay in a common room and have common meals while waiting for the festival.

Unless the timeline bogs down and an expedition arises that seems like it can fill in without missing, that is her plan. GP deducted per expected rate.

Fingers saunters into the bar and collects his free beer from Hyde. "Ah, dark brown. It's so good to see you again!"

He takes a seat near Halfpint. "Are we gonna head back out after the festival is over?" he asks.

That is my plan. Just enough rest to get my wits about me. That was crazy fun. But scary, too. Who knew this adventuring was so addictive?

Baxtaw follows Fingers into the Inn. Friends I have some studying to do. I will be in my room for the next 2 weeks. Please do not bother unless the tavern is burning down. If you set on another adventure. Be safe and come back with lots of coin. He turns to barkeep. Hi my friend glad to be back in the safety of the Inn. I will be needing a very quiet room for the next weeks to study. Please send me 2 meals per day to my door Morning and evening. I am willing to pay up front to secure my privacy to study.

On May 28th returns from his studies in his room. With a new L. Sword strapped to his side. He nods to barkeep and says. I shall return in a bit. He walks out the door.

Clay Weatherwax
Clay enters the tavern and approached the bar. Hello, Mr. Hyde. We are back sooner than we had thought we'd be. I'd like a basic room until after the festival. And some common meals - I'll just share with Morr, if that is okay. He's really filling out, isn't he? He accepts his room key and struggles to move his belongings from Asala, through the tavern, up the stairs and into his room. When he is done, he is red faced and huffing.

8 gp deducted fro room and common meals through June 2. +2 gp for stabling.

Casper White enters the tavern and requests a private room and a good meal sent up. "And a bath...if it's not too much trouble."

The Grizzly Woman enters the tavern and scratches her side. After downing some watery ale, the woman orders up a couple of animals ready for roasting. Upon its delivery she hoists the animals over her shoulder and leaves town without another word.

Fingers, slightly disappointed that the adventuring group doesn't seem to be interested sitting in the tavern swapping stories of their adventures, sniffles, finishes his beer, and stands up. "Okay, then. I guess I'll see you all at the Greenleaf festival. Don't go back out on an adventure without me, okay?"

He pays for common room accommodations and common meals then heads back out to see if anything interesting is going on.

-7 gp

Earc Orctongue

Earc returns to the tavern, a bundle wrapped in cloth securely tucked under one arm. On his way through, he looks for the person described to him who made the bulletin board post looking for someone to teach him a reading lesson. If he sees the man, he approaches...

"Heard you're looking for some reading lessons. If you let me see the book, I'll let you know if I'd trade that lesson for the chance to copy things down or if I'd require something else..."

Earc waits for a response before continuing.

Earc appears shortly thereafter, waterproof bag in hand.

"I've got the torches and tinder and fire making materials in the waterproof bag. Give me a minute to get the torches going once we get to the surface inside the cavern and then we can finish off the last one properly.

We might pick up some extra bags for this trip. Or some way of carrying back more. A pack animal?"

Baxtaw speaks to Earc. Come lets sit over here where we may have some privacy. As the the bulletin board said I am looking a fellow mage to teach me the spell read magic. Baxtaw pulls the spell book from his backpack and lays it on the table. This be the spell book I spoke of.

OOC: Assuming this is taking place prior to June 2nd.

Earc takes a moment to compose himself before reaching into his robes to retrieve a smal vial of chalky white mud. He smears a bit over each eye lid as he speaks to himself. Though he appears to be speaking clearly, his words are yet unintelligible.

Once he finishes speaking, he opens the book and examines it to determine its contents...

Earc casts Read Magic and examines the spellbook...

Earc Orctongue

After studying the spellbook for several minutes, Earc closes it up and slides it over to the side.

"This is a very good spellbook. It contains the spell you require, as well as one for protecting a person against others with an evil intent or nature, one for lulling one's enemies into a bout of sleep, and finally a spell that might convince an unwilling subject to become your devoted friend."

He rubs his chin as he looks up at the ceiling, presumably thinking over a proposition.

"I already have knowledge of several of these spells written within my own tomes, but... I would help you learn the spell to read magic contained within for the opportunity to copy one of these spells into my book and the cost of the materials needed for such a task. That will give you the ability to perform any of these spells after you've committed them to memory."

OOC: Marullus, I'm not exactly sure what all is involved with teaching another magic user a spell like that; just let me know if you need anything on my part aside from role-playing it out...

Does Earc know what happened to Foxy's spell book? (i.e. that it was confiscated (and presumably destroyed) by Brother Mylo? If so, Baxtaw and Earc might want to keep this on the DL for now. If not, perhaps they just have a naggin suspicion they should based on the prevalent offers from 2/3 of the churches in town to destroy any created magical items. ;)
