Re: Expedition - Lug/A Rescue Mission - 28 April, 1 VC
Ruwyn dashes forwards through the grass, shortbow at the ready (though it seems more like a longbow next to her small frame). She fires at the biggest ugliest gob she can spy.
"It's my turn to kill a goblin this time!
Just Pray that my arrow's as sharp as my rhyme!"
Initiative: [1d6] = 3
Shortbow: [1d20+1] = 6+1 = 7
Damage: [1d6] = 2

Let's see if I can improve on an initiative of 3:

Varas's joy at neutralizing a goblin is very short lived. He gulps as he's charged by the pale skin. He tries to fire another arrow at the oncoming foe, but if the ugly gets to him first he drops his bow and attacks with his sword.
Re: Expedition - Lug/A Rescue Mission - 28 April, 1 VC
Baxtaw- Will fire another arrow if he has the strength at the first goblin who shows themselves.

Dorvar's plan doesn't change, so I'll just copy/ paste .
Dorvar will fire his crossbow at the white-skinned goblin (unless he can't target him) before trying to move up and maintain cover.

Re: Expedition - Lug/A Rescue Mission - 28 April, 1 VC
Enemy Initiative [1d6] = 2
The party keeps the advantage this round, but the results are mixed. The three mercenaries charge headlong toward the goblins, covering about two-thirds of the distance, while Ruwyn rushes forward a bit behind them, pausing to fire an arrow from her shortbow that strikes a nearby tree trunk. The same is the case with Dorvar's crossbow shot and Baxtaw's pained follow-up arrow. Lug's arrow, on the other hand, immediately fells the sole remaining spear-wielding goblin. Varas, charged by the white-skinned goblin, gets off another shot, but the creature simply raises its shield and the arrow lodges in its carved face instead of the creature's flesh. It responds in kind, closing the gap between himself and Varas to 40 feet before hurling its javelin at him. The shot is unerring and the goblin emits a high-pitched cry of triumph even as the weapon leaves its hand--and then strikes the thin-framed thief in the abdomen on the right side, piercing all the way through his torso and splattering the foliage behind him with blood. Varas keeps his feet, but it is a significant injury.
Goblin Javelin [1d20+1] = 19+1 = 20, damage [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6
Meanwhile, Niles and Lug note with curiosity that Valorei approaches the sword lodged in the tree and closes his eyes as he touches the hilt, seemingly communing with it before pulling it cleanly free of the trunk. The high-pitched keening sound immediately ceases.
Actions and Initiative!

Re: Expedition - Lug/A Rescue Mission - 28 April, 1 VC
Marge watches as Varas gets hit by the javelin, and starts to circle around the fighting to reach him as quickly as she can. She calls to Dog in a soft, sad voice.
"C'mon, mutt. We're up."
As soon as Marge can reach Varas, she will cast CLW on him.
CLW: [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6

Re: Expedition - Lug/A Rescue Mission - 28 April, 1 VC
How far is Lug from Varas and the white-skinned goblin?
If Lug is in longbow range:
Lug has no time to celebrate his kill. He closes some of the distance between himself and the white-skinned goblin (30', which I believe is the limit to move and fire)* then stops and draws back the mighty string of Smurf Grill. "Hey you!" he shouts, "Get away from my friend!" He looses the arrow, which flies true to its target!
Symurgwyl (Longbow +1/+2) (THAC0 18): [1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22, Dmg: [1d8+2] = 2+2 = 4
"Hah!" cries Lug. "You aren't the first white-skinned gobbo I've helped kill! Come pick on someone much bigger than your own size!"
*This assumes that movement doesn't delay Lug's action/initiative in firing the bow. If it would, and the goblin is within range, Lug will fire without closing distance first.
If the white goblin is not in longbow range and cannot be brought within range by 30' movement, Lug will (a) cry at the loss of a great attack roll, and (b) run as fast as he can toward the goblin.
Someone else please roll initiative.

Out is about 150-160 feet from the white-skinned goblin at the beginning of the round.moving 30' first will not in any way influence the order of actions relative to the goblin because of how combat resolves in phases in LL rather than using segments.

Varas cries out in pain from his wound. He narrows his eyes, draws his bow and looses an arrow at his enemy.
Attack with long bow under 70' (THAC0 19) [1d20+2] = 12+2 = 14, damage [1d8] = 6
Assuming that hits, he cries out in triumph, drops his bow in favor of his sword and sneers at the goblin. "I want to look in your eyes as you die!"
Initiative [1d6] = 2
Yuck

Any thoughts from other players on whether Lug's critical hit should be for max damage vs. min damage and a special effect? I was thinking of either disarming the goblin or pinning it in place. The last white-skinned goblin took something like 23 HP to kill, IIRC, though that was a named NPC. This one probably isn't as tough, but who knows?
Lug will move forward 30' before firing, which would put him at medium range for the shot (not that it matters with the critical hit roll, but let's pretend we don't know the outcome of the roll).Keehnelf wrote:moving 30' first will not in any way influence the order of actions

Hmm, 10 damage on him does sound good--what are the conditions available? I mean, we couldn't paralyze him? I still think max damage sounds good, in any case.
Tiny Ruwyn fires her shortbow again as quickly as she can, though perhaps her speed negatively affects her aim.
She shouts at the javelin gob:
"An unlucky shot--not for him, but for YOU!
For if Varas dies, then you die too!"
Shortbow: [1d20+1] = 2+1 = 3
Damage: [1d6] = 5
Ah. Ruwyn is...not good :p

No, paralysis is too potent for this kind of effect. If he got multiple crits in a fight against the same for we'd get there eventually though.

Re: Expedition - Lug/A Rescue Mission - 28 April, 1 VC
I'd say max damage too, especially with what a stud Lug is.
Re: Expedition - Lug/A Rescue Mission - 28 April, 1 VC
Max damage it is, then.
(I wasn't thinking of full paralysis, btw. More like pinning the goblin's foot to the ground, preventing it from running off for a round as we ganged up on it. Max damage is good too though.)

Dorvar will reload his crossbow, moving forward if he can do both, knowing his best chance is ranged attacks at this distance.

Baxtaw- Will fire his L Bow at the white skinned goblin. He will also look around to make the big goblins cry did draw anymore attention. While he still up in the tree.

Valorei will follow through on what he decided when he was communing with the sword.
Life is a roller coaster, if you don't stop to enjoy it then you may as well not even ride.

Those intelligent swords are trouble, I tell you.
