[Completed] - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Lug backs up if Nalia gives him room to do so. If she stays put and casts sleep, he'll try to stay awake.

OK, just need an initiative roll and we'll be good to go.

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
I've been notoriously terrible at initiative, but here goes:
Initiative: [1d6] = 2
EDIT: Wow...almost simultaneous. I'll take zorroroaster's roll
Thanks for being faster than me on the dieroller.

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Round One Summary:
Enemy Initiative [1d6] = 6
The spider lunges forward quickly, using the side walls as well as the floor to keep it moving quickly forward over the uneven and slippery terrain. It attempts to push his shield aside in order to get its venomous jaws clamped firmly around Orrin's helmet, but he is able to beat the creature back before it can do so, though only with the haft of his axe.
Spider vs. Orrin [1d20] = 6, damage [1d8] = 2
Orrin becomes aware of the tunnel filling up behind the spider, as well--more have emerged from the chute below, but exactly how many is impossible to determine. At least two or three more. Naila calls out in an arcane tongue and the air in the tunnel becomes heavy around the spiders. They quickly begin to sway back and forth, and eventually fall to a prone position, thoraxes against the wet stone. Orrin himself is caught in the cloud of slumberous vapors, and is in danger of passing out on top of the spider in front.
Roll a save vs. spell, please!

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Orrin shakes his head violently to clear it of the nearly overwhelming desire to sleep.
Saving Throw: [1d20] = 19
He looks ahead into the tunnel of sleeping spiders and then back at the party.
"That was well timed, Naila. My thanks!"
Are all the spiders down? How many? If so, Orrin will start dispatching sleeping spiders with his axe.

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
It looks like four spiders, all of which are asleep. There are no immediate signs of movement from further in the tunnel.
Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Lug will gleefully slaughter sleeping spiders if he can get to any.
Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
March 23, 1 VC - 12:20pm
Orrin dispatches the four giant spiders with his axe, leaving it sticky with ichor and his boots and cloak bristling with the irritating quills of hair that cover the monstrous creatures, causing a slight rash on his arms and legs through his clothing and the narrow gaps in his armor.

"Let's find their treasure!" suggests Lug.
Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Naila says, "Take care, Lug. That was the only spell I have for the day so if we find more creepy crawlies we will have to deal with them the hard way."

What if we camp out overnight in the cave entrance, dragging our ingots in with us? Naila can prep her spell and we can look down the hole in the morning well prepared.
"I'm with you, Lug. After a fright like that, I want to see what's down there. I feel like I've earned it!"

March 23, 1 VC - 9:40pm
The group heads back out of the cave to make a camp in the entrance. The group splits in half to prepare the site and gather wood for a fire to ward off the chill and hopefully dry some of their traveling clothes during the rest. The afternoon passes in alternating conversation modes, sullen consideration of the dangers surrounding them and their heavy load, and anxious anticipation of what lies in the earth below for them to find once they've had a good chance to rest and recuperate.
Surprise roll: Monsters: [1d6] = 4, Party: [1d6] = 3
Approximately two hours after dark, without the person on watch (Lars, see below) being quite aware (since giant crab spiders are extremely stealthy, surprising on a roll of 1-4 instead of 1-2), a trio of the creatures pounces from rocks above down into the midst of the party, casting the flaming wood aside as they make their assault upon him:
1 = Lug, 2 = Orrin, 3 = Lars, 4 = Naila [1d4] = 3
Spider surprise vs. Lars [1d20] = 14
Spider surprise vs. Lars [1d20] = 8
Spider surprise vs. Lars [1d20] = 11
One spider manages to get its mandibles into the flesh of his shoulder, dealing only1 point of damagebut injecting its lethal venom into his body.
Spider damage [1d8] = 1
Save vs. poison, please.
Actions and initiative--those who are not Lars, you have a 1-2 in 6 chance of waking up even without further stimulus just from the commotion. If that happens, you can act immediately in the next round.
Orrin: Random d6 roll [1d6] = 4
Lug: Random d6 roll [1d6] = 3
Naila: Random d6 roll [1d6] = 1
Actions and initiative (and save vs. poison)!

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Are those our chance-to-wake rolls? If so, do we basically need to wait to see if Lars lives to wake us before posting our actions?
Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Naila is awake for the current round as well. No actions for others for the first round of combat--though either of them can wake you, or you might be woken by the sounds of combat as well.
Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Also, the venom takes a bit of time to kill, so he'd be able to wake you even if he failed his roll.

I guess Orrin is asleep, so will wait and see what happens, correct?
roll like your life depends on it, Lars! Good lord I hate spiders!

Would it make you feel any better about spiders if I told you that there is some extremely awesome treasure close by, unlike any you have probably ever acquired in a roleplaying game before?Zorroroaster wrote:gulp!Keehnelf wrote:Also, the venom takes a bit of time to kill, so he'd be able to wake you even if he failed his roll.
