Ouch. That's not good. Of all the characters to fail his save, Iluq probably hurts the most. Hopefully Agrippo can get in a couple of strong hits.

BTW, the banshee is straight from the Ravenloft random encounter table, although an unlikely one. It is, in my opinion, the most potentially deadly encounter in the entire castle.

even more deadly than Strahd?

I think so. Strahd doesn't have a save-or-die attack.

 Damn how can he have something tougher than him in his own home?

I wouldn't say the banshee is tougher. It's much easier to kill than Strahd is, assuming you can survive to get in an attack. It's just potentially more deadly in the short term. Think of the banshee as a sprinter, where Strahd is more of a long-distance runner of killing.

At least the banshee doesn't drain levels. That's something, right? Guys?

I think a TPK is unlikely, but it's also likely at least one character is going to die. If Iluq had made his save (and he gets a +3 bonus for wisdom & being a dark elf, too!), y'all would have had a decent chance of a complete victory.

Hmm, I was actually unaware of how powerful a banshee was. I must have never come across one before. I didn't think it was an undead. Would Vorkath know that for a Turn attempt?

In 1e, the banshee can't be turned. It isn't in the turning table, and Gary Gygax posted on Dragonsfoot that the 1e groaning spirit isn't undead. Another Dragonsfoot thread claims that Gary referred to the banshee as a type of "evil fairy," but I can't find that original post.

In 2e, it's turned as a "special," which no one in this party is able to turn.

So we'll say that Vorkath knows there's no hope of turning the banshee.

No. Usually a critical miss gives your opponent a free counter-attack, but in this case I decided that if a banshee keens, it's the only thing she can do in a round.

So you've got that going for you.
