Taavi lowers the tip of his rifle, but keeps it pointed at the floor between the woman's legs and ready to raise and fire in an instant. He uses his training as an attorney to question her. He looks a little odd doing lawyer-speak in his hardened clothing (his suit and tie having been bloodied and blown off by and explosion and a massive gunshot wound). Ma'am, you will understand that we have reason to be suspicious of your person. We have just battled with a variety of murderous humans and non-human changeling beings, upstairs. And this establishment was hosting Petr as an honored guest. A thoroughly vicious and fiendish being with apparent sorcerous powers. And now we find a young and attractive woman, alone in a room in the basement. Who neither joined the violent and extremely loud fight upstairs... nor fled for her safety. So you will understand that we have reason for suspicion.

We thus ask that you identify yourself by name and explain your connection to this establishment and role in its operations. And its purpose and operations as well. It is plain to all that it is-- or was-- not simply a bar.

When he finishes speaking, he listens to both her words and her thoughts. But more to her thoughts.
Talk - 0 [2d6]=7
Telepathy - 2 [2d6+2]=5+2=7
Telepathic Contact -2 (Core). Level-2: The psychic’s awareness of the target’s surface cognition is sophisticated enough to read their current thoughts, though it can’t pick up memories or non-obvious connections. The target gets a Mental saving throw to resist this.
I hope I did the rolls right. Taavi is now at 1/5 Psychic Effort for today. (3 spent on telepathic contact with 3 marshals, 1 spent just now. I assume the contact with the marshalls would have to be re-established, because Taavi was unconscious from the VIP room explosion.

Hansel is unclear why we're not blasting, but we agreed that Taavi was the leader as long as it's not suicidal, so he holds his fire, with his finger just outside the trigger guard, while he looks for any proof of deception or ill intent.

Emile settles in next to Taavi, his SunShooter at the ready, and waits for her answer. The look in his eye says let's just end her and move on but he waits for the others instead.

Shadrach?
Balygyr? (Remember you can always Help through the drones, if you have a description of how you do so. Otherwise you are at the truck, alone, with two women and a child...)

Shadrach replies, nodding. "If there's more of them, we need to put an end to them. They're darkspawn, an' thoroughly evil, whatever they might have been.

"Why don't you come out to the storeroom an' wait? I don't want to see you getting hurt by a stray shot or whatnot."
Shadrach approaches her with the spikethrower slung over his shoulder on its sling, his right hand outstretched to grasp her shoulder.

"...But I already know what you want," the sleek, beautiful woman interjects, her voice cool and liquid, just before any trigger pull decision can be made. "Even the death of everyone here does not satisfy you, no. You... you want the Sons of Vukodlak, she says the name slowly, with a thick slavic accent. "I will gladly give them to you, if you in exchange cause no harm here." She points to the door behind her with a dismissive wave. "Simply go through that door and you can have them. If I'm lying, you can come back and kill me. But I never lie. The truth is far... more delicious."

She arches a single eyebrow, looking over you, then settling her gaze on Taavi for the answer.

It is plain to all that it is-- or was-- not simply a bar."

"Councilor Pertu," she replies, "This bar is nothing more than what it appears. A place where lonely men come to find solace in their vices. The girls find the taste of emotional despair to be delicious, and all transactions are strictly... consentual." She smiles. "We are not responsible for the actions of our clients, no more than you for the towns you blast through with your guns. The damage you've done in your assault upon the entire establishment - do you deny them the right to defend themselves?" She shakes her head. "I am no friend to the Vukodlak, simply pass through and do what you will with them. I just ask you cause no further harm here."

Hansel and Emile both are wary, fingers on the trigger. The atmosphere tense. "Hey, what're you doing? She must be one of them creatures. Be careful." comes Balygyr's voice through your radio earpieces.

"Why don't you come out to the storeroom an' wait? I don't want to see you getting hurt by a stray shot or whatnot." Shadrach says, walking between her and Hansel and Emile's sightlines as he approaches her. With the spikethrower slung over his shoulder on its sling, Shadrach reaches his right hand out and grasps her shoulder. "Thank you," she whispers to him breathlessly, collapsing herself against the side of Shadracks tall, strong form and letting him escort her out of the room through the door behind them. As she and Shadrach begin to walk, she responds to Taavi, "Continue on, and don't return this way. That's all."

She has partial cover from Shadrach, you can act if she's still in the room, or let him leave out the door with her. Balygyr and the others are on the truck upstairs. The three of you have free access through the doorway beyond if you wish it.

"How did she know my name?" Taavi wonders. Shadrach, get back! he yells. He fires his rifle at the part of the "woman"'s body that's exposed.

Hansel, following Taavi's lead, moves to get a better angle, starts to squeeze the trigger, thinks better of it with Shad in the line of fire, and slides the selector to semi, and then caresses the trigger.

"What in the Nine Hells are you doing?" Shadrach throws his body over hers, too late to prevent the impact of bullets. He frantically presses his palms against the bullet-holes, heedless of the lack of blood. Grim stands sphinx-like beside him in the shadows, his hackles raised, growling at the others.

I'm assuming that a) as a shadow-creature she's probably not bleeding; if she is just edit that out; and b) Grim will be by my side due to his compulsion to Guard His Master.

Shadrach, get back! Taavi yells. He fires his rifle at the woman, his bullet piercing into her side. Hansel grazes her with his combat rifle, no blood appearing at the tear in her dress, but Emile's blessed bullet blows a gaping wound in her abdomen.

"They're trying to muder me!" she says quaivering and afraid to Shadrach, "Please get me to safety!"

This round will need individual initiatives (d8) as well as actions.

OOC:
- Emile shoots her for 14 damage
- Hansel shoots her for (3/2 = 2) 2 damage
- Taavi shoots her for (9/2=5) 5 damage
- Shadrach shifts to provide full cover (AC 16 for her, 13-16 hit Shadrach next round)

The SunShooter barks as well.

Hansel moves quickly to get a better angle on the creature, but his concentration on his target is disturbed by worry of harming his erratically behaving friend.

Báleygr Gangleri realigns the drone to shine it's light into Shadrach's eyes to distract him, but keeping it at a distance out of melee contact.

Hansel shifts and fires wide, his combat rifle knocking chips out of the adjacent concrete wall.

Báleygr Gangleri realigns the drone to shine it's light into Shadrach's eyes to distract him. Shadrach throws his arm up to shield his eyes, clearly dazzled, no longer providing cover for the woman.

Emile levels his large-bore at her, the gun faintly glowing with mystic energy as he pulls the trigger. The bullet hits the woman squarely in the forehead, knocking her head back but splattering no blood, gore, or brainmatter. She collapses to the ground and begins to melt into liquid shadow on the floor.

Shadrach recovers from the dazzling, the effects upon him passed now. The room is silent except for a mechanical thrumming behind the rear wall, where the open doorway spills out light.

On the truck outside, Kimberly, Nora, and Oliver sit listening to the one-sided conversation apprehensively as Balygyr yells at the visions coming into his ocular nerves. The pulsing blue cube next to him assists, explaining aloud what is happening in the room below.

...

Peering through the open doorway into the next room with the hovering drone, Balygyr easily identifies what is within. There's a small battery-fueled uninteruptable power supply attached to the wall, now unfed by the destroyed solar system on the roof. The flashing lights indicate that it won't last more than a few hours at best. It powers one end of a portal gateway about the size of a normal door, the other end unknown...

Emile smiles wryly. He checks in on Shadrach: You okay, bud?

Peering at the portal, he wonders, Do we need to go through that to end this?

Shadrach answers Emile absently as he scrambles away from the creature, his eyes big and round and fixed on her. "Better, yeah." A long moment passes. "Thanks."

You know that the portals are most common across the surface of a world, but can in rare and powerful instances reach from the planet to orbit, or to another planet. The portals are usually created in fixed pairs, so that a single pair of portals connect only a fixed set of locations. The woman said this portal would take you to the werewolf lair you seek, but your overland navigation shows that's at least two days further away by car... you're just under half-way there.
