Can you confirm the make and model of the cartridge laser. The power packs tend to be bespoke and I don't carry a comprehensive range. Do you need charger cables for those?

That depends on the lab, I'm afraid. But an initial diagnosis, I'm told, is a few seconds.

The Captain produces a standard data chip.

The tool on there should result in a specific challenge. I take that, and the hardware, back with me and the lab gets the specific response key for you, sent to your phone. You plug the response in and the whole virus shuts down.

But there is a hitch. We want to know how the hardware came to be here. It should have been in a safe place and never have left the building. As Maggie here hinted, we also have a problem.

I think we both have an interest in knowing how this hardware came to be here.

While I am eager to remove the parasite from our system, I would like to retain the data it seems to contain. If you simply shut it down and remove it we lose many clues to who placed it.

I'm told the installing chip should be disconnected at the same time as the clean-up chip is added.

Reven Stiilpahth receives the call. "Sorry ladies, looks like i'm re-assigned." Reven secures the box of chips in his quarters, keeping his and Anjali's separate before collecting the items in a tote. He heads off the ship to join Pranit. "Heading out now, Captain."

Take pictures of all our snub pistols, for overall condition.
Ask about the laser pistols make and midel and if they need a cable
Take a picture of the powerpack she has.

Ask the Caption or Noor for some sort of certification so don't have to buy the weapons at non resident rates?

Which skills are you intending to apply to get around this awkwardness? - How do you intend to apply them? And would those applying them please make appropriate rolls.

Reven Stiilpahth breathes a bit easier, not having to get off the ship. "Will do, XO. Who has the lasers?" Reven gathers the snubs and heads for the Captain. "Captain, i need to send info to Pranit. I need to send a copy of certification so we get a better price. Where are the lasers - he needs the model."

Uncharacteristically, Nālani has not stowed the laser pistols yet. Born and raised on the Belt, she normally ensures nothing is left lying about to become a hazard under acceleration, but she has been pressed for time today.

The lasers are on the desk in my cabin Reven, with their power sources. When you have the details, could you put them in the cabinet beside the door for me?

Reven carefully steps up to the desk, making sure not to step on anyone, records the model numbers, and then puts them in the cabinet. "Bye. Maybe we'll visit later." Reven walks to the airlock and checks the wall file. He snaps pics of the manifest and registration, then puts them back.

"XO, Reven here. I've scanned the necessary docs and recorded the model numbers. Sending to you now." Reven forwards the scans and pics to Pranit. He waits for confirmation before heading back down to help with arranging the old furniture.

...Well there is not much good news. I'm afraid, the registration number is obscured by that hole, and that sheet doesn't confirm the vessel's authorisation to any special armaments. And a photo of a damaged printout doesn't really constitute a certified copy. (Reven's Admin roll: 3+EDU=3+Skill=-3==>3)

Oh. Now that's an expensive model. Becker Lightblaster. Went out of production in '78. Those are worth a bit. They were over Cr2000 each when new - more now. Now they retail for maybe 50% above that. Anyway, we don't do the parts - more of a specialist thing. You might try up by the Yacht Club. They sometimes have collectors pieces.

You do know those pistols are lacking ID stamps and are illegal to hold, don't you

Noor whispers to Reven for a moment. "Do you have a weapon down here, or on you? I'd feel better being armed meeting anyone for the first time, given the previous experiences."

Reven returns to his quarters until it's time to leave for supper. He quickly scans Anjali's chip before settling into meditation and contemplating the next few hours.

Per my briefing, attack chips really don't collect data...they may forward it elsewhere or destroy it. Removing the chip shouldn't lose you anything. It does stop the program re-loading itself though!

So, whatever it has installed on the computer will remain, but it will lose functionality? That will be acceptable.

There is a bijou artificial environment that I should like to study. Whoever built it intended it for more than simply facilitating a data theft, I should like to examine their work in detail.

The program was transmitting a codeword to a specific number, so it is probable whoever operated it is it has been notified of its discovery. I have disconnected and purged the comm system, so no further exchanges can take place. If I can recover the number, will you share information on whatever it connects to? The security of the ship and the lives of several of its crew, are at risk, and knowledge of the threat is scarce.
