Could I use my knowledge of history to place a general time period on the skeleton (assuming it has clothes or armor on) and chests?
Horatio's sense of sartorial stylings is unerring, and although the clothes are well on their way to becoming topsoil he is able to instantly identify both general era -- produced at the end of the Fourteenth Nadir (the Fifteenth Nadir has just ended, heralding the beginning of the Sixteenth Cycle) and even the place they were fabricated. Centuries ago, there was a thriving kingdom to the west of where Junction now stands, the Skeldrene Empire, and the hoity-toity and high muckety-mucks were known for wearing just such a combination of silks and satins. It was a time when the wealthy -- or those aspiring to be so -- dressed in flashy, ostentatious fashions. This woman -- as it appears the skeleton was once female -- was likely well off, or desired to be seen such.

The chests open easily, the wood almost falling apart at Svenn's touch. The adventurers find within:

*The first chest contains 500 finely stamped platinum coins, bearing the likeness of a regal-looking woman and, on the inverse side, a mountain-lion, rampant. In the Skeldrene Dynasty, Horatio knows that such coins were called concols, back in the day.
*The second chest contains 300 platinum coins and a dozen gems, worth the following amounts: two at 10 gp, two at 15 gp, six at 25 gp, one at 100 gp, and one at 500 gp.
*The third chest contains another 300 platinum coins and a single, perfectly cut diamond, that looks to be worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,500 gold alcedes.

"Wilter, why don't you have a look around the cave in case anything has been hidden in here. I'm also thinking that there might be something worthwhile on the body, or hidden behind it. Does anyone have a spell to detect magic? That diamond looks like it's something special"

Shmara will search the cave. "This was almost too easy."

Perhaps disappointingly to some, it does not appear as if any threats or secrets linger within the shallow cave, nor is any additional treasure visible.

"So, shall we pack up the treasure in readiness for returning to Draea? Most of the day is over, it is probably best we leave in the morning, that would give me the opportunity to detect the treasure for magic before we leave. If we stay here tonight we should set up a good guard perimeter and watch rota. I felt we were being watched as we worked."

"I'd suggest 4 watches of around 2 hours, three per watch. I prefer the last watch, I'm an earlier riser anyway and need to rest for my spells, although at a push I could lose that for a day. Ribar needs his rest for his spells too, so first watch or last watch, I'd guess first watch is best. Apart from that. . ." he shrugs

"I know she was a bandit queen and we're taking her treasure, but I think we should bury her in the cave, with some of those stones on top. I can say a blessing"

"We just got finished moving these stones, now we have to put them back?" He grumbles, but begins to move the stones back into place.

It's near dark by the time the adventurers and their mercenary entourage return to their base camp. The cooler weather proved fortuitous, as restacking the rocks proved to be more difficult than removing them.

Whatever presence Newton and Svenn had felt earlier in the day must have lost interest in them -- or perhaps thought the party was too numerous to engage -- and they are not bothered during the night.

The adventurers rise in the morning. The sky looks clear through the leaves, and the air is still cool, with a slight breeze blowing from the north.

As usual the scout is awake early and undertakes his meditation. Afterwards he casts Detect Magic and looks over the treasure, starting with the diamond.

Over breakfast he raises a question:

"On the way back are we going to try and find the two-legs the hawk spoke about, if they even exist, or just head back to Draea? "

Not really expecting to find any magic, but it's worth checking with a gem of that quality, you never know

"This has been a solid haul. They won't always be this easy nor as lucrative but it always feels good to check an item off our list.

Mardan Cy - This will go some way toward the money I'll need for that Inn we talked about!"

Is this amount of loot heavy enough that it will slow us down?

On horseback, divided amongst everyone (except the mercs, I would wager), no. It might be handy to come up with a quick division of treasure, in case some folks are carried off by, I don't know, a roc or something.

An equal division for carry purposes between 6 PCs and 7 retainers is 84pp each with someone carrying 92. We ought to decide who has the 1500gp diamond :)
