Chapter Nine: Year 300, 6th Day

Rolls around the bend and drops his accelerator for the dead guys assault rifle. I am just going to flick any safety catch off and fire on full auto at the two guys on the crew hull roof above me.


Arnwulf fires assault rifle on full auto [2d6+2]=5+2=7 [2d6+2]=6+2=8 [2d6+2]=6+2=8

Pranit and Arnwulf

Round 4 doesn't quite go as planned - both characters have been slightly over-optimistic!

Arnwulf sees the rifle on the body and swaps the bone in the mouth for the bone in the water. Moves to the body, disentangles the rifle from the body's arm, turns to face the guys on the roof - but this means he's had to move out of the shelter of the bridge and he comes under fire from above - two guys on the bay roof pick you as their preferred target. One misses you entirely; the other stiches you across the left shoulder with his SMG. (END:-3-->END total now zero!). Looking at the roof, neither of the potential targets is now in sight! (You can hear Assana on the radio "By the airlock, by the airlock" - she sounds distressed)

Pranit's "Sorry, I win." doesn't quite work either. The guy in the vacc-suit is still attached to your leg and the combined weight is more than the Vacc Suit's thrusters can lift in the low gravity of the bay. The silent struggle takes the two bouncing across the radome, neither able to land a significant blow - The shotgun just discharging into space. It is only at the end of the round that the attacker is dislodged by the thrusters back-wash.

'Sorry I read '..on a piece of strutting about 1m below adjacent to the port bow radome.' as finally disentangled, oh well.

Finally disentangled Pranit turns, centers his shotgun on his body and auto fires on the two firing at Arnwulf.

Pranit will give a quick boost upward and right(aft) (slow enough to not hit the overhead), at an angle a bit to port as to not head right into the roof guys sights, check his O2 level, then douse all his vacc lights, interior and exterior.

Well if picking up the rifle from the adjacent body means he is sniped by the bay watch not the hull team then can I return fire to them instead? Use the macro rolled.

Arnwulf sees the rifle on the body and swaps the bone in the mouth for the bone in the water. He returns fire on the bay team (last round action) then sprays them again for good measure, shooting at the men manipulating the searchlights.

Indrani stops the lift at the passenger deck and exits. When Tibbs is off the lift, she activates the comm. "Intruders in the ship, Freezer Deck! Reven, lock out all the lifts, and secure the doors." Indrani secures both lift doors, and looks at Tibbs. "We're stuck here, I suppose."

Tiberius O'Hare

When the lift arrives he remembers his manners, "Please, after you." he gestures to Indrani and steps in after, nonchalantly whistling some 'while away the time' tune and brushing loose hairs from his collar. He adjusts his tie in the mirror and looks over the way Indrani is dressed.

"Nice." he says. All the while checking his revolver barrel is loaded, spinning it to satisfying clicks and blowing the dust out of the
suppressor bore. He unscrews that and pockets it. No point in silence and besides it hampers gun
efficiency.

"Send the lift down. We should invite our guests up."

Maggie

She finds herself on the wrong side of the airlock*, along with the drone. She will attempt to contact someone on inside of the ship to allow her back in. The regular comm unit doesn't seem to be working, so she will try her neural implant to reach the crew.

Also, she thinks the drone likely belongs to someone inside of the ship, on a different frequency.

Hey Drone, let your operator know that we are stuck out here.

Asking the operator may be faster than the regular comms.

*I assume that is her location. If not, I will edit this post.

Noor

Noor finally figures out that Maggie is in the airlock, not the intruders. She tries the comm once more. "Maggie?"

She waves for Miya to relax and tries to unlock the door so that Maggie can reenter. "Sorry. Things are so chaotic, I thought the fake bailiffs were at this airlock. We have intruders on deck 4. We also need to keep this locked so that nobody comes in this way."

Noor relocks the door. "Who keeps talking about the Queen's computer? I swear we let too many people in today." She goes around the rooms, checking each for occupants.

Indrani eyes the suppressor. "Maybe you can explain how a suppressor works on a revolver sometime. What I know won't work is a pistol against rifles. We lock the lift and the lift doors."

Gas escapes from the space between the cylinder and the barrel, which produces a lot of noise. There is only one revolver that doesn't do that, a Moison-Nagant M1895 https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/202 ... ant-m1895/. So, it's possible that this design follows that one.

If the lift is stuck, there are hatches in ceiling and floor that allow passage of persons using the climbing holds in the port wall to move that way..

"The raiders have no need to stay on the freezer deck. So if they want to cripple the ship they will head to the power plant. If they want to hijack it, make for the bridge. This deck is no man's land." He looks up at the hatch.

"Shall we ride the train down?"

He pops the lid then asks Indrani to give him a leg up. "Well I would lift you but you have a short skirt. I will pull you up."

Send the lift down, get the Queen to open the doors and announce in the tannoy for bailiffs, guests, visitors to step in and report to the bridge.

Indrani's intent is to bottle up the bad guys, so that the others have time to react and to fight the enemy in detail, not in one mob. Also, I'm not seeing any hatches between the decks, other than the lifts, in any of the diagrams. If they are indeed there, then we are screwed. Which is precisely why they shouldn't be there in the first place. Indrani is wearing a shipsuit, which is a lightly armored vacc suit, and she's given no instructions to go anywhere. If Tibbs goes off on his own, then that's his call.

My understanding is that the hatches are in the floor and ceiling of the lift and enables emergency access by foot and handholds to navigate between floors should the lift ever get stuck.

My concern is that after entering the ship via the freezer deck airlock, any intruders will head for the power plant and M-drive intent on crippling the ship. So waiting here on the passenger deck does nothing to stop that happening. We have to take the initiative and the fight to them but in creative ways to counter their presumed superiors of numbers and weapons.

I don't think the suggestion of waiting here to buy time for the others serves any strategic purpose.

i know, but it's still precious seconds that takes him away from getting the ship going - course, he doesn't know 1/2 the crew is outside- oh well
