Mac

Mac sighs at the unexplored door. "I do know a spell to open a closed door, but I don't have it prepared today. Perhaps tomorrow, door." He tips his hat to the unopenable door and moves to the western portal.

The Next Level
Day 3
Late Morning

Finding the door, but having no way to open it causes the party to revert back to their original idea of going through the western portal. Knowing that their little gnomish friend is sick, and isn't getting better as time passes, they quickly line up and walk through, hoping to eventually find more clues and ultimately, a way out of this strange place.

The group enters into another softly lit, carpeted, rectangular room, just like a few others they have already checked. You see open chests, shelves, cabinets, and decorative tables scattered throughout this room, most of them overflowing with trinkets, statuary, trophies, and other strange items. Artwork, decrees, and degrees hang in frames that adorn all of the walls. The most obvious thing you notice in here is that this room appears to be occupied.

Elitir, Zefarrel, and Grosphil see a tall, elderly, human, dressed in robes, and hunched over some papers spread out on the floor. A small black crow hops around next to the man that looks towards you as you enter. Once the crow spots you, the man looks in you direction as well. He seems badly startled at your sudden arrival and by the time Mac, Sprig, and Fin enter, the man has suddenly disappeared from sight. Much the same way as your own elven mage did just a day earlier.

He shouts out at you in a high, shaky voice, even though you can no longer see him. "Leave me alone or I'll roast the lot of you!"

Finnigan whispers, "Spread out" to the others and then backs into the doorway to make sure the invisible wizard doesn't try to escape that way.

Mac

Mac is surprised to learn of another person on this level. But only for a moment as the pile of papers and trinkets catch his eye. "Ooh. Research!" He eventually notices the crow and his companions wariness and sobers up.

"Right...yes. Focus. A fellow scholar, I presume. If you...ahem...roast us, as it were, your lovely room full of papers and flammable items might not fare so well." Mac pauses to let it sink in. "How about we just relax and talk?"

The Next Level
Day 3
Late Morning

Finnigan wisely tells the group to spread out, just in case.

For a moment, there is no reply, but once Sprig asks the stranger if he is the owner of this place, the unseen voice sounds out again from the same area.

“Why.....yes. In fact, I am the owner here! Which leads neatly to my next question....who are you, and what are you doing invading my home? Tell me how you got in here......exactly.”

The crow continues to stare at you as it hops up and down on the floor, flapping its wings wildly.

"Eh, our ship went down. We became marooned here," begins Sprig, deciding, in this case, that honesty might be the best policy. "I won't try to deceive you - it doesn't seem to be in our interest to do so. We were looking for this place. It was believed you may be dead or gone for good. We came here looking to discover the truth and, if the aforementioned proved to be the case, to make off with magical riches. You are clearly alive and well, however, which makes this all rather awkward. I think we would be happy at this point merely to find a way off the island. Oh, and a cure to this wasting disease I seem to have contracted, if you know of such."

To speed this along, I will answer anyone’s questions/comments as they come in, if I can.

The unseen voice pipes up again.

”Well, as you can see, I am quite alive.”

“So you have stumbled in here through the islands top hatch, and now you have no idea how to get back out? Typical behavior for thieving folks such as yourselves, I suppose.”

“I can’t say that I know how to cure your ailment little one, but if you got sick from touching the filthy carcass of a dirty little monster, I can’t feel sorry for you.”

“I think you all better just leave now, before I get angry. Good day then!”

Elitir

As the conversation goes on Elitir will slowly move to and block the eastern portal (to her left).

Can she see the crow?

Mac

"Good. Good." Mac barely hears the conversation going on as he moves to examine the papers on the floor. "What do we have here? An interesting filing system, to say the least. Let me help you tidy things up."

Mac will gather the papers and start ordering things up.

"Sounds like you know the cause of his sickness, old man... we need the cure for it."

Finnigan looks around the room, trying to decide what to do. Then he spies something and a memory is jogged and...

Using his advanced strength and dexterity, Finnigan attempts to grapple the crow to hold it in a secure grip.

Zefarrel: She gives a look at the others in the party as she steps to the left to casually stand near the "west" portal. How do we know you are not a charlatan? It seems to me the owner of the house is long gone or the condition of the rooms below would be in better shape. And the thieves and barbarians we dispatched wouldn't have been there. So I say -- Prove your identity.

OM: What are the approx dimensions of this room? Do you allow hold person to be cast on someone who is invisible?

Grossphil the Feeble

After being alarmed by the brief sighting of this strange mage, Grossphil calms himself down by reminding himself he is still invisible. He does not trust that this guy is actually the mage Castanamir, and in fact he expects a confrontation based on the way the events have been unfolding.

So while his companions converse with the invisible man, Grossphil will try and move to the opposite side of the room to position himself along the back wall. In theory, if the mage casts a spell or does virtually anything, Grossphil will be in position to surprise him with a magic missile in the back. So long as he bides his time and isn't noticed.

The Next Level
Day 3
Late Morning

The voice sounds out again from the same spot as the crow spins circles on the floor, trying to keep all of you in its sights at once.

“I AM Castanimir, I tell you! And I don’t neeed to prove anything to you thieves! Can you prove that I am not he?”

Grossphil slips around the edge of the room, unseen by the others. Zefarrel slowly moves closer to blocking the opposite portal from Elitir. She considers using her magic against the unseen opponent.

Mac moves to the center of the room and begins tidying up the mess of papers on the floor. He finds them to be mostly hand written notes and official looking decrees naming Castanimir and his many great deeds over the years. “Yes, yes, stop that please!” says the voice nervously.

Just as Finnigan is about to leap towards the crow, the voice sounds out again. “So tell me, have any of you found a way out of here yet?”

The crow squawks loudly when the shifty dwarf rushes towards it, barely escaping the fighters powerful grasp. It flaps its wings frantically and quickly flutters straight up to towards the ceiling, keeping just out of the reach of the leaping dwarf.

“Hey! Hey! Stop that now! Tinky wasn’t doing anything to hurt you! Can’t we all just work together here?”

Actions?

Elitir 21/22
Zefarrel 20/20 1/4 first 3/3 second
Grossphil 16/16 2/2 first 1/1 second Invisible
Mac 7/7 2/2 first 1/1 second
Sprig 10/10 2/2 first
Finnigan 25/25

The room is 40X50 and I would allow a +4 to an invisible recipients saving throw vs HP.

Elitir

"So you, Castanimmir the Mighty, don't know the way out and would like our help? You know, I haven't had crow pie in weeks and it is one of my favorites. Perhaps we can arrange a trade, Crow for help escaping your own maze perhaps?"

Mac

Glancing through the papers confirms Mac's knowledge about Castanimir. And his suspicions about this mage. He finishes arranging the papers and sets them on a table. "Ok then, Castanimir, let's discuss things properly. We'll leave Tinky alone, and you can help us find a way out."

Mac continues looking around at the trinkets and shelves. "So. Any proper negotiation requires food. You must have some on this level, I can't see you slumming it below. Am I also right to assume that you are alone up here? I've been alone for weeks on end before, it starts to get to you after awhile. How long have you been alone here?"
