Confirming Varkos' readiness with a glance, the Ranger mutters This could get messy, try not to let the slop touch you. With that he reaches out with his spear and pierces the large pod in an area toward the bottom, on the right side facing away from him, trying not to go too deep, just enough for the goo to flow, just to see the thickness of the shell.

Day 1 – 12:05p

.

Varkos moves to the side of the pod. Illhalevar stands aside and watches their entrance tunnel. Odo is ready with torch and blade as is Malak and Rake. Zafalia backs away from the pod, but watches southward. While Al'Zur doesn't move remaining in position near the door.

The Ranger carefully pokes the pod with his spear. His delicate actions do not seem to warrant the reaction. Both pods immediately split open dropping two of the scarecrow like creatures to the ground, with the smells and the squish of the minced fish bits.

The party was well prepared, and though startled, not surprised when this happens. The creatures rush forward, as before, to attack.

One of you roll initiative, and please post actions and corresponding rolls.

Okay a battle map of sorts is here: viewtopic.php?p=17720#p17720 .
No one said that they were moving further in, or behind any pods. So this is how I pictured you all. If (before your actions) anyone would like to be moved (and it's logical and doable) just let me know and we'll make those adjustments. :)

Initiative: [1d6] = 5

"Let's go Odo! I strike high, you strike low!"

With this, Rake slashes at pod-thing #2 with his trusty sword.

To hit with long sword: [1d20] = 5, damage (s/m): [1d8] = 8, damage (L): [1d12] = 1

AAAGHH!! The Ranger remembers the silent vow he made to himself earlier, but the spear is in his hand and the foe is in his face. After this thrust he will allow his spear to fall and pull his hand axe.

To hit: [1d20+2] = 12+2 = 14, damage with WS spear, sm-med: [1d6+3] = 2+3 = 5

I realize Son of Thunder will take a non-proficiency penalty for using the hand axe.

Malak will attempt to circle past Zafalia and sneak an attack against the nearest foe.

To hit with short sword [1d20-1] = 2-1 = 1

"Ouch!" can be heard as the incompetent thief stumbles, falling back against the side of the cavern wall.

Varkos aims to decapitate the closest vile creature:

Longsword [1d20+3] = 20+3 = 23 Dam [1d8+5] = 6+5 = 11

Day 1 – 12:05p
Round 1

Should have reminded my specialists about their attacks, I'll do so below the post. The party wins initiative!

Son of Thunder and Varkos are able to get off attacks and both hit the creature that they are facing. Between spear and sword the creature is decimated. The spear running the creature through it’s chest, pushing it back and giving ample opportunity for Varkos to separate it’s torso from it’s legs. The creature falls to the floor green sap oozing from its body.

Rake attacks the second pod thing, but misses with his long sword. His stalwart companion Odo also missing the creature. Zafalia is able to move past the dying plant thing to attempt to stab the same one as Rake and Odo, but she has similar bad luck.

Malak also moves up, trying to move behind one of the creatures, but continues the party’s poor luck.

The creature attacks attempting to grab Rake, but without success.

PM sent.
Rake, Odo and Malak are all holding lit torches too, FYI.
The map is here: viewtopic.php?p=17720#p17720 .
Varkos can take a step or two and hit the 2nd creature this round if he likes. Creature #1 is done and dead, so Son of Thunder can also move up, around the druidess, but he cannot attack this round as he’s too far to get his second attack in. But he can certainly switch out weapons as he moves if he still so desires.
I’ve moved folks around a bit on the map, let me know if anyone is moving elsewhere.

"Eh, oh! Ugly, ugly ugly!"

Rake attempts to keep the creature's attention focused on him and adopts a defensive stance, hoping that one of his smaller companions can sneak a blow in.

ooc: Rake isn't attacking this turn. I don't know what the rules for going full defensive are on this campaign but he is making use of them.

Varkos does indeed step forward to attack the other creature and rains down an impressive chop on to the crearures unprotected flank:

Longsword [1d20+3] = 19+3 = 22 Dam [1d8+5] = 4+5 = 9
