Ah the pointy stick, yes, retirement present, bit ornate but perfectly functional or so I'm told, would like to learn how to use it one day!
He turns and looks around, visibly distressed at the bangs, If I survive, that is!
Ana sits down on the earthen berm that protects the starship on three sides and nods,
“It is a little over the top. You know rather than standing about int the open it might be safer to find some place low, unless it is your intention to attract sniper fire then by all means carry on.”
snippage to work with edit on next page.

ffilz wrote:I think I'd like to edit this a bit and say you would need to access engineering or the bridge to get to the atmosphere controls. Also, technically, all you need is oxygen tanks since there is standard atmospheric pressure, you just need a source of oxygen (in fact, probably medical supplemental oxygen would be sufficient, or at least with a combo mask).
Okay, so amend my post to the following:
Vee accesses the ship's environmental system from the airlock's panel, and finds that she can't access the air exchange protocol. "Unless you have a vacc suit, you can't enter the ship," she tells the people in the airlock with her.
She makes her way back down the gangway to find Ana. "We have to have someone with a vacc suit to get inside and switch over the atmospheric controls."

Amend mine as follows
Ana taps the side of her goggles twice as she scans the starport.
“I haven’t put on a vacc suit for anything more exciting than ships drills in years, I’m not even sure it still fits.”
“Where the wide world of sports is his lordship?”
She looks at the others looking at her and the vac-suit helmet on her luggage,
“Oh no, don’t look at me. I grew up on a perfectly vanilla garden world with a perfectly vanilla atmosphere, besides I don’t know the first thing about starship environmental systems.”

Simon stands with his arms out, showing his nice fancy modern Vacc Suit.
What do you need me to do?

Mark sits on his duffle next to the others, paying attention to the conversations around him, doing his best to present an amiable, cheerful disposition.
Sorry for the lag in participation... I thought I had subscribed to this topic so I was sort of waiting for an email notification that someone else had added something here. I checked today to see I was two pages behind! #subscribed

“Skipper hasn’t even met this fellow and you’re pondering giving him run of the ship?” Ana says to Vee,
“Look, we’re in the middle of a war-zone, everyone wants to get the frack out of here. One of us needs to go in there with him for security purposes.”
“You don’t have a vac-suit of your own? I thought all you spacers just got one for showing up.” She says to Vee eyeing her carefully,
“Mine will be a little big on you but you’re welcome to it.”

Eager to align himself with the well-prepared, Mark partially unzips his duffle and pulls out the sleeve of his suit.
"I've got mine!" he says cheerfully, looking around for some spark of fraternity.
"Done me a lot of good too, what with my last job and all"...dramatic pause...
"fighting off pirates and whatnot."
He tucks the sleeve away and zips up his bag. Then, turning to Ana, as she seems to be the one taking charge while everyone waits for the captain to show up,
"Listen, uh, while we're waiting... is there anything I can do to help?"

Ana looks at Vee as if she’s about to say something but manages to hold her tongue.

Ana points to the Western berm,
“Up there, keep an eye on the area North and South beyond the fence, if you see anyone or anything skulking about out beyond the perimeter you give me a whistle.”

"None of us knows anyone else," Vee replies evenly. "Sending more than one person isn't going to help make the operation more secure." She crosses her arms. "And no, I didn't buy a vacc suit, for the simple reasons that there were none left that fit me, and the one I had was company property." She tilts her head slightly. "Are you proposing to assume command here until the Captain arrives?"

"Environmental Controls, right you are, on the bridge I assume? I've been on plenty of Free Traders in my long and uneventful career, I just might be able to seek that out."
Simon gives a sly grin as he starts to prepare the helmet on his vacc suit.
"Look, I'm as keen as getting off this planet as the next human, I'm not here to steal a ship, I'll tell you what, look after this, as a kind of collateral", he unfastens and hands out his ornate foil.

Vee turns her attention away from Ana to look at Simon, making no move to take the foil. "Do you know how to set the environmental system to purge?"

Damn! Cross posting.
Ana takes a breath and a moment to collect her thoughts before beginning,
“Articulate Anastasia, articulate.” She says very quietly before letting her breath out.
“By signing the captain’s contract and buying into his venture our rights and responsibilities as crew members with regard to Imperial law, Naval law, this starship and any civilians aboard her have been altered until such time as that contract is no longer in effect.”
“If you or I go aboard and die as a result of the nitrogen atmosphere that would be deemed a workplace accident and as such Captain Wen would ultimately be found culpable for our deaths. If you went aboards and flew off with the ship that would be mutiny and would eventually be delt with as such. If either of these two,” Ana points at Mark and Simon,
”went aboard and died as a result of an environment that we know to be lethal we would be guilty of homicide. If they went aboard unaccompanied and stole the ship we would, at the very least be willfully negligent and more likely than not criminally responsible of aiding and abetting.”
“Now, I am not for a moment suggesting that either of these two fine gentlemen are incapable of performing the required operation or that they would steal the starship, what I am suggesting is that we need to proceed with an abundance of caution, mindful of our legal responsibilities and obligations.”
“Now, if you are uncomfortable with borrowing my vacc suit and feel better walking me throught the process I will put aside my reservations, suit up and go aboard either to recycle the thing-a-me-bob or act as a babysitter.”

Vee's eyes narrow as she absorbs Ana's speech. "Okay, then. You suit up and go with them." She takes three steps away from the gangway, lays her duffel on its side, and sits down on it. "I'll wait here."

"I'll keep an eye out for tramps," Mark says as he pulls his shotgun from its scabbard.
"I wouldn't feel comfortable boarding the ship without a contract." He takes a few steps towards the berm.
"I'll let you all know if I see anything. Don't leave without me!" He flashes a broad grin and then continues his patrol.

Ana leans her rifle and SMG against the aft port landing strut before pulling off her jacket and flack vest laying them down on top of her rifle case, “Vee, It is not my desire to play the part of the pedantic jackass but I have spent the better part of 20 years protecting my men from the asinine minutiae of the Imperial bureaucracy and it is not a job one gives up easily.”
She slides her boots and pants off before slipping her legs into her vac suit, “I have seen every possible way a well intentioned action by the most diligent soldier can turn around and bite them in the ass.”
Ana pulls off her shirt before pulling the suit up over her muscular shoulders and sealing it up. She adjusts the fit for a moment before pulling on the boots, gloves and PLSS harness. The suit has an unusual blue grey cammo pattern with armoured shoulders and shins. There were markings on the shoulders but they’ve been removed, only the name A. Jones remains on the chest.

Simon fastens his helmet, then unclips one of the sections of his wheeled case, it is a small compact box with a handle.
After tuning in the communicator, he remarks "Toolkit", indicating the box, "Just in case we come across anything jammed up, lead on McDuff!" and waits for someone to take the lead, preferably someone armed.
