Elijah Crowthorne, mad sea prophet:
"Aye, captain!" says Eli before setting off to fool around with masks and sickbay netting.
Later he goes to the brig. "Old Plighty! Ye best be watchin' ye grog, else ye'll find yeself on the wrong side of these bars again!"
Then he turns to the wench in the brig. "Confess ye sins to me, lassie, and unburden ye doomladen soul, else face the eternal damnation of Davy Jones locker.
"If ye are contrite, girl, I can absolve ye."

Is already hard at work when
The Bard shows up. He seems to have used his own leg to make a pair of pattern forms and is busy marking off slabs of leather.
I pray to keep my neck out of the noose however it may be coming. I feel nothing, but i figure it don't hurt to try. If the gods are real, then fine, I'm covered. If they aren't, then im out a fistful of gold and no better or worse for ware, and have the sea proests and their healing spells on my favor, which may be just as well. Now sing something I've not heard before and I'll share a couple i know."

Geoffrey thinks he understands the cannon lecture. He goes through it in his mind. The question he asks shows, he didnt quite get it.
intel roll [4d6] = 13
On day 2, he realizes, all his calculations are wrong. He keeps getting the angles wrong.
intel roll [4d6] = 13
On day 3, he is visibly frustrated. He works and works, but seems to be going backward in his learning.
intel roll [4d6] = 17
Day 4, more of the same,
intel roll [4d6] = 16
Day 5, he breaks down and thinks of giving up.
intel roll [4d6] = 19
Finally, on day 6. After getting cursed and mocked relentlessly. He finally shows enough of it has registered, and he passes.
intel roll [4d6] = 8

Szmodics goes about his business, helping to navigate cleanly through the waters to Monte Verde. He muses about 'the job' that Captain Lazarus has asked him to do and wonders where to start? Szmodics will do some 'off duty' snooping about and then go see 'Catriona'.(pm sent to Urson).

The McGregor's Revenge sails across the few chartered reefs, as men on the prow rails indicate how many fathoms depths the hull clears the coral banks. Thick coral walls, brittle as they are can still rip open the bowels of many a ship, indeed Lazarus knows only too well after his family drowned, shipwrecked on a Carib reef, and washed to the ocean floor. (A visual of the island is posted in the Carib forum notes) Aiming to navigate through the tricky outer reefs and away from sandbanks and land in the wide arc of a sandy bay, the Crows' Nest watchmen flag up that a couple of boats lie at anchor nearby.
"They are Breton craft Captain Sir. Two six-guns flying a crown flag!"call the watchmen. "Damn it" scolds the Captain and signals the drums to beat a familiar 'All Hands' signal. "Make ready the men Mr Perryman, we don't want trouble but just in case these 'royal lobsters' get a hankering for mischief...Dogger, load the starboard carronades with some grape of our own. ",
Several men adjust the rigging as the steady call to arms resound through the ships interior. The newly trained gunnery crews get a chance to prime and load, Zoggrot and Geoffrey sweating ably to the task. One of the gunboats swing to across the bay, lifting anchor and sailing swiftly the wide expanse. The men seem to be uniformed in some garb, so perhaps the vessels are not just Breton registered but on official business. A jolly boat of armed men and a tri-corned hatted pomp with a coned loud speaker begin to row furiously from one boat and across the outer reefs to within hailing distance of the sloop.
"You fly the Gauloise flag Sir? Name your vessel and purpose to this god forsaken island?"
"We are the out of Grand Bahamas. We have spice, sugars and whale meat to trade with the natives, in the hope to acquire some of those famed anti-venoms before we traverse the north mainland to St Augustine." Captain Lazarus replies, his answer plausible from the rigging of his ships lines.
"That won't be possible to land here Sir, the island is under Crown quarantine, some pox has broken out and we fear it spreading to the settlements. Take your trade elsewhere."
The party catch the drift of the conversation. Custom gunboats patrolling the island to ward off any possible spreading of the disease to other places. It seems official protocol is to leave the island untended until the pox has ran its' course and the survivors helped then. Disease carriers could infect hundreds if allowed free travel. It makes the Captain aware of the risks of the intended help and not a small whisper of dissent goes through the crew.
Indicating the sloop will sail by, to trade with eastern islands the sloop sets out to sea and off to the horizon. Once there the Captain gathers the crew."It is my view that in the blessed hands of Padre Claude and the sisters that the settlers will have indeed prospered and weathered this storm of pox blight. We cannot leave women and children to the mercies of heathen natives. We shall land around the other side of the island, and a small party of men depart for the Mission, gathering the folk ready to evacuate. Let us make ready and be prepared should these gunboats come patrolling the western shores."
Two jolly boats are made ready for the expedition. Captain Lazarus, shaman Iggway, druid Pocc, Elijah, Siggard, Zoggrot, Geoffrey Blood, marine Rexlin, Holden, combine with a few crew members to form a detachment of press ganged volunteers. Szmodics has been tasked with a job on the sloop while you are away. Can you spell casters please adjust your character sheets to show what spells memorized for this day please.
Any last verbals, questions or actions you wish to make before we go into the island please state and I will then narrate the next encounter..

Holden jumps excitedly at Rexlin's request standing and motioning with his hand at the sky, "I shall sing you the tale of the richest bird that ever roamed the seas!", as he takes out his lute, drums interrupt his excitement, "Well, perhaps another time"
He does as asked and joins the small crew heading to rescue distressed citizens.

Rexlin
Hearing the drums he drops everything rushes excitedly and alert to the deck. Grace in his hands, ever ready. When he sees the two anchored ships, he looks aroumd hoping they'd be able to out menuver them long enough for favorable conditions, maybe even isolate one before engaging the other. He has to admit, he's happy the Captain's bluff worked. When he gets the order to accompany the captain off shore he gives that grizzled grin and slips below deck to gather his gear and make ready. Before leaving he stops at The Butcher's shop, "We're heading inland with the Captain. Do you have any of that goop used to repel bug and the like? We're going to be neck deep in vipers as it is, im sure the captain would appreciate it too."
After that he will come back to the group gathered on the deck, the new greaves in a sack over his shoulder. He will set aside two of the better sets, on for himself (because pirat) and the other for the captain which he delivers personally after handing out the rest.

Old Eli, sea priest:
The wizzened former castaway doesn't relish a return to land, but will go. "There be folks in need of aidin'."
But when yet another crewman transparently tries to curry favor with Captain Lazarus, the old salt can only look down and give his hoary head a rueful little shake.
(Spells are loaded.)

Miss Gweequay",instructs the captain,"When we land upon Monte Verde and enter the mission, foremost after securing the safety of settlers is to collect enough vials of anti-venom and other such experimental equipment from wherever Padre supervisors its creation. It would be a such a shame to lose this wealth of knowledge and perhaps we may continue to research such endeavours in a new laboratory elsewhere. Bring back to the ship the formula scrolls and equipment needed to maintain these studies."
Of course Captain...Iggway nods to the Captain, she readies herself and the items that she'll disembark with, everything currently within her Medicine pouch and back pack.
spell list has been updated

Geoffrey bites his tongue. We best be careful. Not sure what will kill us deader, the fangs of vipers or the pox.

Siggard
The ships lesser mage spends most of the voyage at his studies in the wizards room. He sets up his new aquarium just the way he likes it and continues his experiments studying the squids ink glands. He struggles with his emotions as he works, hoping to be able to impress his superiors with some new findings before they set out onto the dreaded island.
Once charged to his fate with the others on the away mission, he tries to remain quiet, lest he gain more ill favor from his crewmates. He does not again mention the ambergris he generously donated, sensing that some crewmates seem to be thinking badly of him because of the deed. He rings his nervous hands and continually checks his firearms, trying not to look nervous. His monkey friend rustles around in his pack behind him, screeching out softly every time it hears the word "snake".
"Does anyone have experience with such creatures? I have heard that they wont crawl over a rope or a line of campfire ash. I've always wondered if that were true. We have no snakes in my homeland, you see. Well, none that will eat you anyway." The mage shudders again as he gives Face a small piece of jerky to keep his mind off the oncoming danger.

Pauses in front of Siggard and eyes Face. "...............Monkey..." he growls, his face turning red.

Pocc watches the monkey and chuckles at Rexlin's reaction to it. "Whats wrong with a monkey Rexlin? I think it improves our crew." the sea druid winks at Siggard and smiles at the monkey.

Rexlin "Devil's Scowl" Dupre
Grumbles and hands both Siggard and Pocc their greaves. "Just keep the little bastard away from me. I hate monkeys! He so much as looks at me queer, and I'll use him for fishbait and throw the scraps to the snakes." Then to Pocc "Don't encourage him!"

The McGregor's Revenge sails a wide berth, initially indicating a bearing to sail close hauled to the wind and tack to the Grand Bahamian settlements. The gunboats monitor the sloop sailing away and then return to anchorage in the Monte Verde bay. After a long swing around the privateers sail around to the western shores of the island and anchoring herself half a mile off shore, releases the jollies to row across the reef. Szmodics, the single party member left on the sloop, gives the others a cheery wave from the quarterdeck as they set off for the island. Several high white water crests picket the area, indicating the waves washing over dangerous submerged coral outcrops and hidden rocks. From the distance you can see a small spine of undulating hills that lead left to right, up to a larger flat topped peak. Most of the coastline a mixture of scrub and thickened copse. Several places afford a landing, the Captain pointing to a particular location. A small creek with muddy run-off leaking onto a boggy cove. The boats can be brought up close to shore but the sand is saturated and heavy to wade in. The ropes being tied to a large boulder for security, the jollies are left in the care of a sailor. He takes a perch on top of the boulder, musket and tobacco pipe in hand. To the immediate left and right the island is dense with thick mangrove trees, differing shades of red and copper trunk dotting a lush green canopy. Also along the coastline tall wading cranes pick wriggling morsels from the mud, ignoring your landing. Chattering of birds and buzzing bugs abound amid the chirp of sand crickets. A few steps into the trees and several elongated S-shaped tracks are cut into the ground, veering off in differing directions. Slithery creatures on the prowl though none can be seen.
"The Mission station is on the hill highpoint, perhaps a couple of miles away. We can pick a forest trail hopefully and arrive unhindered.". The dozen or so companions form a single file and begin to hack and slash their way through the swampy ground and towards the unseen mission. Iggway may wonder what state it is in since she left several weeks ago. Rexlin passes out the shin greaves that he and Holden have carefully prepared. Fastening them around his legs with bits of whale tendons. The are a little cumbersome but offer a thicker protection against creatures biting into a 'leg of elf' or 'orc calf'. He also offers around lumps of greased pig fat which 'butcher' Vayne, insists"will make you smell so bad even the dung beetles will keep away from you!" A few of the men adjust woggles of cork swinging from the tips of their helmets or caps or fan themselves with cut strips of bark.
Any volunteers for 'point duty'? and who brings up the rear? Captain is in the middle of the file.

Siggard Hagslayer stares down the scowling Rexlin after his doltish comment about his prized pet. He jots down some notes in his journal while shaking his head at the overzealous sailing brute. "If we faced the dangers of a seahag and ended her existence, what makes you think we would be afraid of you? Do you have no understanding of how magic works? Perhaps you would like a demonstration? My specialty is turning foolish idiots into mice."
Once on land, the ships wizard thoroughly checks his possessions to be sure he hasn't been robbed again in such questionable company. Donning his shin guards and smearing on the Butchers goop, the mage stays close to the native shaman, hoping she has some powers to keep the snakes at bay.
He addresses the captain once everyone is ready to set out, looking back at Rexlin as he does so.
"Sir, Captain, sir! If none of these supposedly brave lads of yours want to take the lead, then I shall, sir. Though I don't think I am necessarily best suited for the job, sir."
He looks around, hoping that someone else will step up to the task instead, so he doesn't actually have to do it.

He hears this and turns towards the mage. He seems reasy to pounce, but the his bristled mouth breaks in a grin and he chuckles, apparently finding humor in the insult.
Later on land, he's surprised to see the mage volunteer to take point. He considers volunteering the monkey, but his more serious side has another idea and he wanders over to nudge
Pocc.
"What do you think? Walk with me on point, keep and ear open for critters while I take care of the rest?"
