Hex curses and retreats without turning his back with Kragg, throwing a couple of daggers at any gnolls that break through the warrior line.

Abijah Dun moves behind the door and sets his shoulder against it. He waits for a moment when he doesn't think he will foul the other's attacks, and then tries to shove the door closed on the gnolls.

Morris, seeing his dart swept aside and unable to (uh) inflame the gnolls, rushes to the door behind Abijah Dun and will lend his weight to shutting it.

Osprey hurries the others through the door to follow Kragg's lead. Once everyone else is through, Osprey will come in and attempt to slam the door shut. Immediately after slamming the door he looks for any locks or bars to prevent entry, also scanning the room for anything heavy they could move in front of the door. A curious idea popping in his head, he then looks down and tries to gauge if there is any sort of incline in the floor and how much of a gap underneath the door. If the angle is right we may yet be able to give them a surprise.

Before the party can break away and find protection behind the door to the south, another deadly volley of arrows sails in their direction.

The barrage takes a heavy toll on the group as Osprey, Kragg, Yon, and Abijah are all struck.

A pair of black-shafted arrows sprout from Kragg’s back as he falls just outside the threshold (-6,-3 HP), and before Osprey can turn to flee, an arrow slams into his shoulder, knocking him to the tiles (-4 HP). Crimson pools spread slowly beneath the elf and dwarf as they lie motionless and bleeding.

Yon attempts to lasso the lead gnoll; however, the rope falls short of its target. The beast retaliates and fires. Yon’s armor takes the brunt of the strike and prevents the arrow from fully penetrating the priest’s chest (-1 HP).

Abijah rushes through the doorway and prepares to slam the door closed. An intense burning in the grizzled warrior’s leg gives him pause as he stares down at an arrow protruding from his thigh (-4 HP).

Hex, Morris, and Abijah wait anxiously just inside the doorway.

Abijah, from the cover of the door, reaches out for Osprey and drags him to safety. To the others still on the wrong side of the door, he calls, "Move! Door close!"

Wil heeds the call to flee the onslaught from the stairs. He'll seek cover behind the wall as he drags the wounded Kragg with him.

Hex will help to slam the door once the group are through. He will try and stay behind the door to keep out of the line of sight of any arrows.

In Pursuit of Prey: Round 4
Gnoll 4.jpg
Gnoll 4.jpg (93.01 KiB) Viewed 364 times
Another deadly wave of gnollish arrows speeds down upon Yon and Wil. Three of the thirsty barbs find purchase in the priest, punching through his mail, and shearing through sinew and muscle (-7 HP). Brother Wil skillfully evades a misguided arrow and makes a dash to pull Kragg away from the skirmish. The valiant monk hauls the unresponsive dwarf to safety.

Yon continues to stand at the forefront of the fray and once again releases his lariat. Just as the noose is about to close about the lead gnoll's neck, the feral creature pulls his head back and avoids the ensnarement.

Using the door as cover, Abijah hastily reaches out onto the landing and gropes for Osprey. He clasps hold of the unconscious elf’s arm and successfully pulls him out of harm’s way.

You can, but Yon remains on the landing. Everyone else is within the room.

In an effort to distract the gnolls and gain a few precious seconds for Yon to get to safety, Morris reaches a single arm through the door and snaps his fingers, lighting the oil which had poured across the stairs and walls into a bright and ominous flash.
This is really a creative idea of spell usage, but Affect Normal Fires doesn't actually create flame, it just causes an already existing flame to grow larger or shrink. There would already have to be an existing flame for this to work. Morris would know this, so I'll let you repost an action if you want to save your spell. Sorry man, it really was a great idea.
Ack! Oh well.

Hex will call for Yon to retreat, and when others take up the position of slamming the door, the halfling illusionist will quickly set about bandaging whomever has the worst injuries, the dwarf or the elf.
"If the dog men try and break through I will hit them with a colour spray and the archers can take aim from the back of the chamber, hmmmmm yes yes yes!" he squeaks quickly as things take a turn for the worse.

"AH!" cries Abijah, seeing the last member of the party through the door. He presses his shoulder into the door, and uses all his might to slam it shut.

Wil helps his comrade slam shut the door. He'll cast an eye over his shoulder to scan the room they are in for some other exit from this potential trap.

In Pursuit of Prey: Round 5

Hex screams out for Yon to break away from the melee, and the priest of Light looks around in panic as he realizes he is left alone on the landing. He turns to escape but not before the gnolls release another barrage of lethal missiles.

The party stares out from the threshold of the door in abject horror as a host of arrows find their mark, and Yon is driven to his knees. He gropes about helplessly, silently reaching out to his companions before succumbing to his wounds and breathing his last (-11 HP total; Yon is killed).

At the sight of the downed priest, the gnolls erupt in a cacophony of yattering and rush down the stairway.

Abijah hastily slams the door, and Hex immediately begins binding Kragg’s wounds. The tiny halfling staunches the bleeding, effectively saving the dwarf from certain death.

Within the confines of the chamber, the party takes notice of their surroundings.

A marble basin sits against the north wall, and an elaborately carved wooden cabinet rests against the west wall. A large, stone table stands in the center of the room, and a thick, leather-bound book is chained to a podium at the head of the table. Murals line the south wall, illustrating scenes from the afterlife.

There are closed doors on both the northern and eastern walls.

Within a matter of seconds, the gnolls reach the landing and begin pounding at the door, trying to batter their way in.
