Bandy Sandybanks

Bandy is ready to head out on the 2nd of June.

He will purchase 2 weeks trail rations and a week of standard rations for himself and a week of feed for his pony (planning on grazing the pony when possible).

(Deducted 10gp, 4sp, 2cp for this purchase)

EDIT: He also picks up 4 more large sacks. And recommends everyone pack a few large sacks with them, just in case...

(Deducted 1gp for 4 large sacks)

Irving has a couple of sacks already, and the mule.

Captain Bremen seeks out Brother Florin and introduces himself, hoping to make a good first impression with a man that might, one day, become someone of importance. Good afternoon, Brother Florin. It is great news that the Bishop has agreed to you joining our quest.

It was unfortunate - what happened to Brother Kellstrom. It comforts me to think that, perhaps, Baudh sacrificed his own acolyte to save the rest of us. I strive to live right and true to His words and will do what I can to ensure no further sacrifices are necessary. May I ask how long you have been a cleric?

I just noticed that the potions of healing only cost 50 GP. So Bremen will buy one as insurance. Never know when a cleric will attack a 4HD creature that can only be damaged by magical weapons and then have their abdomen ripped open...

Also, I am torn where to put my item XP. Sword seems most functional, though I'd prefer it goes into the crossbow. What are your thoughts?

Best do it quickly, whatever you decide, because the points have to be spent before the next adventure or they are lost.

This could probably go in the Expedition Planning thread, but I wanted to be sure you all saw it. Captain Bremen is bringing:
  • 8 flasks of oil
    12 torches
    1 hemp rope (50')
    1 grappling hook
    12 iron spikes
    1 hammer
    2 large sacks
15 days worth of food (preserved and fresh)
    compass

Does anyone want to bring (or think we need to bring) paper/ink to map the areas?

Markd has 5 pints of oil and his lantern. Not sure if anyone else has light sources.
He has 50 foot of silk rope, but doesnt have any other gadget per se.

Good thinkin', soldier. Took the words outta my mouth. I'd do it, but I haven't got the coin for paper nor quill. But if you've got silk rope, I could sell mine off and get mapping materials.

As fer light, I already mentioned I've got 12 torches and 8 flasks of oil. Glad to share it but we've got to remember the oil could go fast if we need to burn our way out of a place. Irving has his uncle's fancy sword, but I don't know how that works.

Markd can purchase it, most likely... smarter than selling off rope at half/cost.

Bandy Sandybanks

Bandy checks his bag and says, "I have plenty of candles, so no worries there, Markd!"

But, just in case, Bandy buys another 10 candles (12cp deducted) and adds them to his pony's saddlebags.

Captain Bremen sets his pack down at his feet and looks at Irving. Say, Irving. Is an awful long hike we've got in front of us. Do you mind much if I let Grace... No... Piety! Yeah. Piety. Anyhow, do you much mind it she hauls some of my kit?

Does Irving still have our tent loaded on that best? Any how, it'll showed us up consistent if Bremen can offload some weight.

Irving double-checks his gear and does some last-minute shopping:

7 days standard rations
5 days iron rations
1 set manacles (in case we find any humanoids we want to bring back as a prisoner)
5 flasks oil
1 lantern

26gp 9sp deducted

Irving frowns. "Ive got an awful lot loaded up on the mule already, including the tent. Let me take a look..."

Piety is carrying 22 pounds, not including the weight of the tent (I forget where to find that since I don't see it in my LL book). She seems to have plenty of carrying capacity left to her, in that case.

I have Markd at 72 lbs, so he could use offloading 13 lbs to get to 90/rd

Your group sets off east from the town of Gaul, following the well-travelled route to the Frogmorton Ford. There is much activity there, with materials being hauled from town and construction beginning in earnest by large crews working on a stone tower overlooking the river ford and on a lumbermill site just north of the ford itself. The morning is quiet after the festival, happy locals sleeping in after the dancing.

You find the river level is lower now and you're able to ford normally across. Except for Bandy, of course, who rides upon his pony to remain above the water level during the crossing.

It is early afternoon and you are once again in the forboding country across the Orctongue River.

Direction and intent?

Date: 1:00pm, 02 June 2021
Light: Sun
Injuries: None

If you paid for good living during your town stay, please note it here (+1 or +2 to saves for 2 IC days). This will help me keep track. I'm also assuming that everyone is at 40-59lbs carried-weight and you're moving at 3/4 speed. Please note if you've moved any gear to one of the pack animals.

Bremen took poor meals, so no bonuses. I'll indicate what is where on character sheet later tonight.

Though happy to be on his way to gain notoriety, Captain Bremen laments leaving the comforts of town. He promised himself he'll return with enough coin to enjoy some carnal comforts next time.

I'll take point for a time, he says as he lengthened his steps and disappears into the forest in front of the group, compass in hand.

unless someone says otherwise, he will head toward the Haunted Barrow, turning toward the city before he reaches the mound.

Also, don't forget to assign item XP!!!

you have crossed the River Gaul at the ford, the Orctongue is the eastward flowing tributary 40+ miles north. The left-hand fork of the Y... ;)

Captain Bremen hefts two large sacks and straps them to Piety, along with a length of rope and a grappling hook. We'll move faster this way and a third of it is for the group anyhow.

Sack 1
  • bedroll
    8 iron rations
    7 fresh rations
    bottle of southern wine

Sack 2
  • 5 flasks of oil
    6 torches

Strapped to Piety
  • 50' hemp rope
    grappling hook
