Action Thread 3
Re: Action Thread 3
Day 1 – 10:02a
End of Round 1
.
As Malak struggles to get his sword, druid, ranger and dwarf match Varkos’ attack on the two plants. The result is a mess of sap flying everywhere.
Then the creatures snap back almost to the exitway, taking Varkos and Malak with them for the ride. But it’s at this point that they droop a bit and stop moving altogether. They droop almost to the ground, which means that your comrades can stand (after picking themselves up.)
Smiles all around then Varkos and Malak come forward to join in on the congratulations for a fight well fought, when both realize, they are still stuck. Amazingly Malak’s torch still burns, but it’s sticking straight up in his upraised arm and hand at this point.
Went quicker than I thought, but there is this little twist to contend with. Those pods look like they are about 40 pounds each.
HPs: Malak - 15/15; Varkos - 22/22; Ilhalevar - 8/8; Al'Zur- 7/7; SoT - 25/25; Wulfgard - 12/12; Zafalia - 11/11; Korgul - 24/24
WIH: Malak: short sword; Varkos: long sword; Ilhalevar: quarterstaff; Al'Zur: long sword; SoT: Spear, shield; Wulfgard: staff; Zafalia: spear, shield; Korgul: battle axe, shield
MO (10’): 1- Malak; 2- Korgul and SoT; 3- Varkos; 4- Ilhalevar and Al'Zur; 5- Zafalia and Wulfgard

--------Spells: Ilhalevar: 1-2/2; Al'Zur: 1-1/1; Wulfgard: 1-4/4, 2-2/2; Zafalia: 1-4/4, 2-3/3

Even though he anticipated as much might happen, the sudden jerk and feeling of helplessness overcome Malak as he's flown into the air against his will: "Whoa-oh-oh-oh!"rredmond wrote:Then the creatures snap back almost to the exitway, taking Varkos and Malak with them for the ride.
Malak, happy to once again be on the hard ground, moves to rejoin his companions... and can't. "What the--" Malak exclaims. "The thing's still got me." he says as he attempts to fight his way free.rredmond wrote:But it’s at this point that they droop a bit and stop moving altogether. If the above attempts to free himself are unsuccessful."Should I use this --" indicating his torch "-- to try and burn it off?"rredmond wrote:Amazingly Malak’s torch still burns, but it’s sticking straight up in his upraised arm and hand at this point.

OOC: Can we tell exactly what is making them immobile? Are they covered in hardened sap? Or sticky sap? Or is this a paralysis kind of thing?

Re: Action Thread 3
They are not immobile, they are stuck to the plants, which are attached to the ceiling. They can move, excepting big old plants are stuck to them. They can't move far, because the plants, which are attached to them and the ceiling, only allow so much ability to move.Alethan wrote:OOC: Can we tell exactly what is making them immobile? All of Malaks attempts to pull free don't seem to work.

We should probably attempt to use blades first. While not as fun, it'll almost assuredly be safer (maybe setting them afire will cause them to release some dangerous toxin or something?).Alethan wrote:Then have at it, my friend!
"Someone wanna give me a hand?" Malak asks. With his short sword in one hand and the torch in his other, Malak attempts to awkwardly hack himself free from the plant-appendage holding him captive.

"What evil are these things?!"
Varkos slashes left and right with his blade with gusto but being careful not to hit himself or his companions.

"Hmmm.." Rake muses, "The fight seems to be endi..."
Rake's elven-blooded ears catch a sound. Something is coming down the hallway. Turning to look, his infravision discerns something large, maybe 4 or 5 feet long, low to the ground, climbing down the wall to the floor of the path and heading in the direction of where he and Odo stand. The creature is multi-legged and silent, other than the clicking made by the many legs moving.
Rake draws his longsword and shouts, caring not if the party on the other side of the plant barrier hears him or not.
"Odo!! We got Company!! Twenty paces in that direction."
He takes a defensive stance, holding sword and shield aloft, readying himself to meet the approaching horror.
OCC: should I roll initiative or something? I have never played OSRIC/AD&D1st, is it a 1d6?

Son of Thunder takes out his hand ax and prepares to do some hackwork on the hideous plant guardians when he hears the voices of others. Looking to the sound he stomps his foot. Great Spirit, does EVERYONE know about this cursed cavern? Varkos, friends of yours? He glares the enormous Warrior and points to the duo making themselves known.

Al'Zur steps up to sever the tentacle holding Malek, "Hold still my friend"
[1d20] = 8 to sever
OOC: I assume all sorts of pluses to hit and damage, even think the backstab bonus should work on a dead opponent. and I forgot my+1 for being an elf....damn

Zafalia begins trying to help or at least settle Malak down when...
She readies herself for trouble and will hold station between where the incapacitated Malak struggles and where the voices just came from. If these "voices" appear and Varkos knows them, she'll give them a proper scrutinization anyway. If he doesn't, she'll prepare to fight or cast a spell!
The druidess grabs up her spear and shield as she looks to the new, big man to see his reaction and response. Varkos looks uncomfortable and scratches his head, Maybe, but I can't tell.
Sam's on holiday in Spain and will be afk for a week. I'll NPC Varkos for a bit.
Question: who's cutting where exactly. The main body of the plant, where those short tendrils are is fully stuck to your comrades. The stretchy stalk is what connects the plants body to the ceiling.

Re: Action Thread 3
Malak, wanting to first get himself cut loose from the plant keeping him tethered to the ceiling, will try to hack away at the stalk first if he can reach. He'll worry about the short tendrils latched on to his person once he's freed.rredmond wrote:Question: who's cutting where exactly. Son of Thunder will re-grasp his spear and step around Malak & Vakros next to Zafalia to meet those approaching. As the plants don't seem to be devouring our friends, as of yet, simply holding them fast, his focus will be on the unknown voices beyond.
