Light Sources: Randolpho (Lantern, 3 hrs, 50 minutes remaining), Galen (Lantern, 3 hrs, 50 minutes remaining)
Time since rest: 10 minutes (1 turns)
Location: Statue Room

The group heads down into the darkness slowly, on the lookout for danger.

As they reach the entrance to the room, some shift in the shadows alerts Quinn to the danger below. Torgyr notices a slithering sound moments before ... something emerges and catches the others off guard.

The thing that you see immediately is a mass of maybe a dozen arm-length tentacles reaching out for you as the front rank enters the room. They are attached to something like a 10 foot long caterpillar.

Actions?

Round 1

Quinn's spear is deflected off the ceiling of the corridor. Torgyr gets off a solid shot (6 damage) before the thing is on you. Zim and Ranulf, caught out of position, are struck by several of the whipping tentacles, and they go down, fast. The thing continues moving forward, and strikes at Torgyr and Solaine. Solaine is struck by a stinger on the end of one tentacle, but she shrugs off thing's poison. It squeals hideously at you, looming over Solaine and Torgyr, tentacles flapping wildly.

Solaine knocks away the creature's tentacle. She drops her Voulge, draws her swords and hacks at it.

Long swords: (Attack 10+): [1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22, damage: [1d6] = 2

Technically, Ranulf drops like a rock, without any last words :( For now, if you want to take over your henchman, you can do that. We can figure out where we go from here down the line.

Emms heart wrenches as she watches Ranulf fall under the monsters fierce attack.

"Nooooooooooo!"Her anquished scream seems to rise from the bottom of her soul and echos throughout the corridors. In the village of Muntberg, many will recall that day...the day they heard such a call of anguish echo unknown down from the mountain.

"I will avenge you, sweet Ranulf,"she sobs. With a angry yell, she plunges her spear towards the foul abomination, seeking vengenance for her fallen master.

That's not too over the top is it ? :lol: drPete, I'm not sure of Emm's stats so you will need to roll for me

Round 2

Confronted with the tentacled horror, Torgyr and Solaine get off last ditch attacks before it is on them. Torgyr misses, but Solaine slashes the thing (2 damage).

Torgyr is repeatedly struck by the tentacles. His dwarven endurance is no match for this, though, and after being struck by three tentacles, Torgyr drops.

The tentacled beast strikes Solaine with another tentacle, downing her.

It advances, and strikes Ajax, who goes down.

It whips repeatedly at Galen, but only one connects, and the things poison does not harm him.

Quinn, Emm and Audi rally in defense of their friends, and deliver several mighty blows to the thing, downing it.

Surveying the damage, it seems Emm, Audi, Quinn, Randolpho and Galen are still standing, while Ranulf, Zim, Torgyr, Solaine and Ajax succumbed to the creature's poison.

Wow, brutal...

"Let us pray this poison is only temporary. I have never seen such a huge beast. Take a buddy each, even the dog." Quinn checks out Torgyr for pulse and vital signs. How was the poison delivered? Like a bite or stab wound or porous through the skin? Makes a difference as you could suck venom out if it affects through the bloodstream.

Inspection of them reveals them to be alive but immobilized. The thing's tentacles have stingers on the end, and everyone who went down was stung, most more than once.

Quinn knows that it is quite cold outside, and unconscious people are at risk of death by exposure in this weather, if you are thinking about dragging everyone up the stairs.

Are we at the foot of the stairs leading into the statue room. I was going to suggest we move the unconscious into the oracle room, light some lanterns for warmth and make them comfortable as we can. We can secure the room and wait it out...(oh for a few warm wolf pelts...)
