Clay Weatherwax
Entering the Butcher/Grocer, Clay addresses the proprietor. Pardon me, Mr. Clive. I would like to purchase
8 torches 3 sp, 6 cp
4 fresh rations 9 sp, 6 cp
I am also interested in
10 bottles (southern) wine, 24 gp
10 pounds of walnuts
1 barrel of dried fish
2 wheels of cheese
a bunch of dried sausages
What would you say to 35 gold pieces, including delivery?
The rations and torches are already purchased, so just the stuff for the Farrows.

Re: Town Business (Gaul)
"35? That's fair, without the barrel of fish. That'd be worth more than that alone. But I know the vintage that Mrs. Farrow likes; I can deliver it." Mr. Clive sets about filling the order.

He grunts, then acquiesces. "A barrel for 32, or a half for 16. Can't be giving it away, you know..."

Disappointed about the apples, Casper buys several bunches of carrots, some nuts, and some raisins. The grocer is more than happy to assist. He does still have carrots, but the fresh apple crops are done. He has dried, sauced, or preserves. Nuts, raisins, and other dry goods are in plentiful supply. You may choose what you like. Buy as man-days rations.
Deducted 10 silver = 5 days unpreserved rations.
Winter is coming...

Clay stops briefly at the Armorer and purchases some well-fitting chain mail.
84 gold pieces deducted. Sheet updated and leather armor given back to the Farrows for another farmhand to wear.
Edit:
Clay is purchasing:
5 fresh rations
2 preserved rations
1 large sack
50' hemp rope
3gc, 2sc + 6sc, 4cc = 3gc, 8sc, 4cc deducted and I am exactly penniless!
Re: Town Business (Gaul)
Before the group departs Gaul, Irving stops by the shop to see if he can procure a tent for the outing. He seems to be orating as he makes the request, citing at length from passages where poor pilgrims or itinerant knights had besought local lords of resources to support their holy (or noble) aims.
"Humble keeper of goods, hear me! My companions and I set forth this day under the dreariest of skies to restore...a lost relic of Baudh...and to bring the light of the faith back to the far corners of this misty bottomed land! As you can see, rain falls all around us and our backs are bare and sore from the weight of leagues of travel! I ask of you, is there aught you might do, in Baudh's glorious name, to aid us in our expotition? We have tithed to the church to attain what supplies and blessings we can, and now our funds are slim indeed, and our road is long. Would you be so kind as to donate to the church for this bench urn such a thing as a tent or other covering we might use to protect our pious flesh from the cabbages of the wind and rain? The light and glory of our lord will rest upon you even as the sun is hidden from the eyes of us weary travelers. Even a small lowering of the price would help us out, in a pinch, dear sir."

Unsure if Irving is serious or play-acting, the shopkeeper is nonetheless tickled by the performance. Something about Irving's manners and graces, perhaps, even if stilted.
"Sure... I mean... Prithee, Aye. I can part with a tent for 8gp, since its for the church."

Re: Town Business (Gaul)
Irving smiles broadly and genuinely as he listens to the shopkeeper's words. "Truly the bards will sing of your generosity!" He proclaims, as he steps forward with a heavy purse of coins and fishes eight gold pieces out to complete the exchange. He whistles merrily on his way back to the group.
Re: Town Business (Gaul)
Blackjack Amistad
Whilst about town, Amistad will do a couple of things.
Firstly, Amistad goes to visit Hickory, the logging foreman. He relates to him some of the events, being snared by unseen faeries, the strange tunnels and the troll attack. Amistad can laugh about the head gripping him with its tongue and biting him. Like a trollish vampire chewing his neck. He lets him know we found a good pine ridge of quality wood and we rafted them downstream to the ford. We got an excellent price and building at the ford could be an option with more equity and men behind him.
Secondly Amistad will go to the guard barracks and check in on the Morlock. He lets the guard captain know he has advertised for a linguist to try and study the Morlock language and behaviour, so it is vital he is kept well though Amistad has no real jurisdiction over the Morlocks fate.
He will also seek an audience with the Archduke before going on any further expedition.
And seeing the blacksmith at the forge. I would like to commission a prototype weapon, a small harpoon. Basically an underwater crossbow that fires a short barbed javelin.

Hickory engages in knee-slapping laughter as Amistad's yarn is spun. "A good tale, that! Stranger things 'an I've heard in the woods. Never heard of a man trying to wrestle a grumpbear, neither. You're quite the fella, Blackjack. Good wood and a lumber mill would be a thing indeed. You get it built, I reckon some of the boys and me would be happy to keep it running."

The guards are cordial, confirming that the Morlock remains alive and in good health and deeper within the Gaol. You are not given permission to see him. The officer on duty also acknowledges that he saw the note looking for someone to study their language, but never heard of a scholar willing to work for so little coin.
"He doesn't need someone who thinks they know everything," speaks up a guardswoman preparing for her patrol shift, "He needs someone who is willing to learn." She introduces herself as Akkara. "Can't promise I'll figure him out, but if you pay, I'll try. Creature is a curiosity, indeed, and I already am in the gaol." She'll accept your offer of 12gp per month, but wants it paid in advance.

The blacksmith calls in the bower, and both look perplexed. "An underwater crossbow? Can't say I've been asked that before..." The two men talk their trades a for a brief while than agree. "Figure it could be done. It'll take two weeks and 50gp, though. (Will operate as Heavy Crossbow, but waterproof.)Spearmint wrote:And seeing the blacksmith at the forge. Blackjack Amistad
Blackjack will take up the offer of Akkara to study the Morlock. He will pay the 12gp and inform Earc we have 'hired a linguist'. Amistad knows to be patient so will ask that Akkara gives him a weekly report on how she is doing and any information she discovers.
He will hold back on the harpoon for now, with the riverboat project to fund as well. He needs to recover HP by resting so will just stay around town until after 12th when he should be fully fit. He will check on Earc and Alcide at the end of the week.

Foxy O'Hare
Foxy visits certain establishments around town over the following few days since her arrival back in town.
Visiting the blacksmiths forge she purchases 100 willow shafted arrows -25gp and pays the apprentice a few gold to engrave each one. -5gp
She is seen in the tavern quite often, chatting to a bard fellow and going over a few verses of some raucous catchy rock ballad. She is also seen to a chorus of 'encouraged' wolf whistles, tarted up in evening dress, heels and stockings to keep an appointment with the Archduke.

Earc Orctongue
When they make their way to the merchant's camp, Earc asks the merchant selling the potions a few questions...
"About these two potions... I assume the potion of treasure finding must be used in one go, but what about the other? Can it be sipped for effects that last a portion of the time?"

When they have a bit of time where they won't draw attention to themselves, Earc mentions to Blackjack that he is going to take 9 of the platinum pieces and replace it with 90 gold coins so he has an easier time carrying his coins around.
There are 6 platinum pieces left if Blackjack wants to do something similar...
