Alethan wrote:"Oi!" Quoros sits up with a start.
"That lad there's got a right big sword..." he whispers, nodding at the man sitting on his own, a giant two-handed sword leaning against the chair next to him. "And he looks like he could use some coin," he adds, noticing the hide armour sitting on the same chair...
"What do you think? One more for luck? Five fingers makes for a better fist than four..."
"The lad does wield some impressive steel." Nodding affirmatively.
"Let's just hope he can use it."

After a taking a deep gulp, Ausus sets down his mug and rises to his feet. Striding slowly but purposefully, he heads to the table where the dwarf and elves are seated.
"Pardon me, master dwarf," he says, "But I could not help overhearing. Is there some matter in which I might assist you?"

"Gryrax, is it, Master Karl? (You don't mind if I call you Karl, do you?) A fine city! Maybe I'll take you there, myself, once we've had our fill of this area!
Quoros leans back in his chair and tugs at his beard.
"Yes, I do not doubt you would be of great use, even without the sword, Castien. Still, it might not be a bad idea to try and find one or two more who can wield a blade."
He looks around for a likely candidate.
"If we cannot find anyone tonight, then maybe tomorrow morning will shed new light on our issue."
"Karl is fine, and yes, perhaps we can travel together, after this little task is done."
He leans forward and sips on his drink.
OOC: You don't have to slow down on my accord, I'll try to keep up.

"That depends, good sir, on how well you can wield that great big sword of yours. We have a job lined up and would like to have one more sword in the mix. What say you?"

Ausus shrugs. "It gets the job done. I was hoping to speak to the local smith about crafting one a bit sturdier, with a better balance in the pommel. Though I'd probably end up working the billows for months to afford it."
He tilts his head to one side. "So yes, it does seem I'm in need of some coin. Though I'd like to know more about what's entailed before I sign on."

"Fair enough. I'll tell you what I know."
He sits back in his chair and takes a drink from his spring water before continuing...
"I met a man this evening named Cole; I was pointed his way by Ostler, the owner of this establishment. Cole had apparently been asking for directions to the Temple of St. Cuthbert. Being a follower of St. Cuthbert, I thought I'd save him the trouble of going to the temple in the morning and ask if I could be of any assistance."
"He said he was in need of a healer and possibly a few sharp swords. He said there was a place he needed to go a few hours outside the village. He said all we'd need to do is keep our mouths shut (he specified here in town, but I assume there, as well) and our eyes open for trouble and stand ready to help him out IF he needs it. He said once he was done, we could keep any coin or treasure we find as he has no interest in it."
He shrugs.
"If we agree, we're to meet up with him at 6:00 p.m. on the east end of town tomorrow. It seems simple enough. And the payoff might not be that great, but it's a start."

Karl listens to the details then offers a thought. "In my limited experience, what ever you presume will be wrong. What this man Cole expects will likely be different from what actually happens. That being said, I'm in, and I expect to deal with what ever crosses our path."
He sits back again, and tries to gauge the others.

"Agreed Karl and we should keep our wits about us. Several times have I been lured to an out-of-the-way place by a 'friend' only to find several other 'friends' waiting ...and not for a polite conversation."
Gandrel smiles ruefully.

"Sure, I always approach such deals with a healthy dose of caution. If it turns out to be a raw deal, then at least we'll have ourselves a chance to clean up some of the local trash is how I see it. There is always risk in this kind of venture, lads... I'll see if I can find anything more out about Cole from Ostler before I head upstairs to get some rest."
If everyone is in agreement, then Quoros is eventually going to make his way up to his bed in the common sleeping area and get some rest.
But before he does so, he'll approach Ostler and ask him what he knows about Cole - is he a local, new in town, good or bad reputation... anything he knows that might be useful.
In the morning, Quoros has some ideas about what he's going to do during the day until 6:00 PM rolls around... will wait until then to take those actions, of course.

Prologue 0.1 (Adventuring)
579 CY, Goodmonth 9 (10:00pm)
53h/33l, 10mph
The dwarf assumes everyone is somewhat on board and excuses himself to head toward Ostler at the bar.
A few things at this point:
1. Castien and Asus havent stated if they are on board yet or not which is fine nor do they have to be. Feel free to continue the table conversation to tie up the scene and any loose ends or conversations. Take as many postings as you want. Just assume that after every few the clock will move forward a half an hour. Also, I will monitor any continuing conversation or actions taken in the inn during this scene and respond accordingly. Time hasn't stopped nor have encounters just because you all are waiting to leave on your adventure!
2. Having said that, outside of this scene, your PC in now on the first of what we call non-adventuring time (see the house rules). I will explain it here since this is the first time. For the next 24 hours of real time (roughly until 12:00pm 5/22/12) your PC has from 10:00pm in-game time to 6:00pm the next day in-game time to accomplish whatever he desires. Keep in mind you should try to get 8 hours of sleep. That means you can do any number of things such as housekeeping, a side job, information gathering, shop buying, hang out at the inn, explore in town and outside of town, a side quest, etc. Anything is possible as I try to keep a living and breathing world at all times. All you have to do is let me know via PM what you are wanting to do. You can do it in one of two ways. You can either just list what all you want your PC to do in that period of time, or you can PM me each task one at a time so I can acknowledge each task individually. If you choose the former, list them in chronological order as you may not get to all of them or you may have an encounter that needs role played out. Please be reasonable in what a PC can accomplish in that period of time. Also, you don't have to do anything if you want. I will just assume you are hanging out in your room doing whatever if I don't hear from you. This method, I have found in the past, gives you the opportunity to develop your PC and can create interesting twists to the adventure or cool back stories. Plus by using PM your PC is the only one privileged to the information which is kind of unique too unless you hang out together which is fine. If that is the case you can post on the main thread. Just let me know which PC's are in the main group at the time and, if it is essential, I will let you know if we need to go to PM. If you have any questions on how this works, I will work with you through your non-adventuring PM.
3. Get your marching order figured out on the marching order thread. You can discuss it there and give me a final before 12:00pm tomorrow. Please use the format I showed.
4. I need WIH's and readied spells so I can complete the information at the bottom of my posts. Just PM them to me in your non-adventuring PM.

"Six in the evening, then. My name's Ausus, by the way," the half-elf says, smiling. "I'll see you all then." With that, he'll head back to his table, where he'll gather up his equipment, and then head up to his room.
During downtime until the meeting, Ausus will seek out Smyth, where he will attempt to negotiate a fair price for a two-handed sword of superior quality to the one he currently wields. He'll be quite open and honest about the fact that he lacks the coin to fund such an endeavor. However, he'll make mention of the potential of going on a mission for this Cole fellow, and that if this should fall through or fail to provide sufficient compensation, he'd be willing to work for wages at the smithy to satisfy his debt.

That was his intention, though I suppose we never went through the motions. From private message:
...Ausus will stroll up the road to the Inn of the Welcome Wench, where he'll seek a warm meal and a dry bed.

Castien keeps a watchful eye out for the woman that originally fetched him his water. "
She never did charge me for this" he thinks to himself as he downs the last of his beverage. Once he spots her and captures her attention, he will also inquire with her about getting accommodations for the evening.

"Does anyone else wish to take a stroll around to further investigate our surroundings?" enquires Gandrel.
Regardless of whether anyone takes up Gandrel's suggestion he will do the following:
Secure a bed in the Dormitory from Ostler.
Go out for 2 hours approx scouting around - with anyone expressing an interest.
Aim to be back byapproximately midnight to retire for the night (depending on what happens).
Next day's activities dependent on what happens before bed.

Quoros approaches the bartender, speaks with him quietly for a moment or two, and is offered a key, presumably to one of the rooms upstairs. He takes the key off the bar and walks back to the table.
"Gentlemen, I will be heading out to the castle construction site in the morning to see if I might be of any assistance to the workers there, by way of healing or prayer. I will return to the inn two hours or so before we're to meet our man Cole so as to have a proper meal, if possible, before we head out. We can discuss any final plans we might want to make at that time. Good evening to you all!"
He raps on the table twice with his knuckles before nodding and heading upstairs to his room.

Karl will purchase his food and a bed in the dorm. The next day he will scout the town, not really needing anything more than rations.
