Chapter 6: Escape from the Prison World - Dark Beginnings

Rand will slowly and cautiously head over to the procession, walking along side the nearest person. he asks in a gentle voice, "What has happened? I've been lost in the wilderness for some time..."

As Elithil turns around and descends into the darkness, he finds an unlit torch hanging from a wall nearby. It appears to be dry, despite the damp air. Rounding the corner to his left, he finds that the tunnel descends quite a few feet, barely seeing another source of light in the distance.

The man that was asked simply looks down at the boy and says in a weak voice... PM will be sent your way.

Once Deceidon's actions are stated, I will begin the first round of combat for the group.

If he is weakened, Deceidon will say: "Speak - why do you attack us, for whom?"

Elethil approaches the distant light source as quietly as possible.

As Elithil round the corner in the darkness, he finds the distant light to be stationary. A closer inspection reveals that it is a lit torch on the wall. The fiery light illuminates its surroundings and reveals the items that were floating in the water, broken barrels, crates and other filthy debris indeed. What catches the elf's attention though is a piece of paper nailed to a set of wooden boards. The boards are roughly put up to block people from entering what appears to be a hole in the wall. As Elithil listens to his surroundings, all he can hear is the sounds of water dripping and the scurrying of tiny feet.

Turning to look over your shoulder, you find that the right path in the fork you took leads to darkness, your vision revealing nothing new.

The armored man charges Flynn and strikes with his longsword. His attack is parried, however and leaves him open to attack from Whitsell. The holy warrior takes full advantage of this opening and lands two swift sword strikes, cutting through some of the silent guard's banded armor. (Both hits landed, dealing a whopping damage of 25). No riposte for this parried attack.

The armored man stumbles back a couple of steps and looks straight at Whitsell, the guard's helmet visor showing an empty darkness within. He remains silent, not even offering a grunt as he takes sword strikes that surely hurt. Deceidon's demands for information are unmet as the guard prepares to attack Whitsell next. I was not positive whether you were attacking and interrogating or just interrogating if the target was weakened. Seeing no dice roll listed in your post, I assumed the latter.

Flynn swirls his blade. "So now we know your mind and skill." says the rapier specialist.
"I am not impressed by either. My turn!"

Rand will join the throng of people moving towards the city, blending in with them as they make their way through the castle gates.

Elethil, intrigued but way, takes a closer look at the paper nailed to the boards.

Suspecting the armor may not have a man inside, and perhaps spooked by it, Deciedon fumbles about trying to smash the thing with his sword.

As Elithil approaches the note nailed to the boards, a fine handwriting can be found. The message is brief but alarming:

"Let's settle this here and now. You won't survive this encounter, I'll make sure of it!"

Rand joins the procession of people seamlessly and enters the front gates of New Dathan city.

Even though it is in the middle of the night, there are hundreds, nay, thousands of people bustling through the streets. Grave silence leads to crying and angry shouts. As more men and women gather, the volume increases. Were it not for the guards posted at almost every street corner, chaos would have surely broke out by now. To the unknowing eye, one cannot help but wonder what has everyone in such a panicky, frenzied state.

Whitsell, apparently believing he is as good with the sword as people credit him to be, continues his hot streak against this obviously injured opponent.

Rand uses the next available opportunity to slip away from the throng, taking a known back alley and traveling through the shadier parts of the city, looking for any contacts that may be able to shed some light that the normal populace doesn't know.

Rand uses the next available opportunity to slip away from the throng, taking a known back alley and traveling through the shadier parts of the city, looking for any contacts that may be able to shed some light that the normal populace doesn't know.

Though it has been months since he has last set foot in the city, familiar paths and routes open for Rand as he stealthily navigates the cities inner parts in the middle of the night. The farther he goes into the slums of the city, the fewer guards that are posted. As Rand enters the run down market section of the area, he finds that many people are found moving around in their homes/stores, the dim glow of candle light illuminating some of the action in the form of tall shadows.

A few young men hurriedly runs past Rand, dragging a cart full of what looks like traveling goods and perhaps wares. They pay him no attention as they pass, a look of focus on each of their faces. Further down the market area, you can see several similar occurrences.

Whitsell and Flynn outmaneuvers the armored figure and expertly stabs and slashes in a joint attack. Deceidon joins in on this too, but as his blade connects with the opponent before him, a chill runs through his body and he feels his strength waver for but a moment. Deceidon suspects dark things as the armored man falls to the ground.

The opponents lie still and silent, but strangely enough, no blood coats the floor or blades...

Deceidon, what is it? what happened? you ok? We need to get out of here.

"I have no idea, except it seems foul magic," answers Deceidon. "If so, a magician sent it. We are suppose to find Matkinsai now? Any ideas? Fenrin will not be happy about the other orbs destruction. Let's blame Matkinsai, which is true. Let's get somewhere safe."

He leaves with the others out the door.

Rand will follow along, looking for anyone loitering around and not focused on their work, if anyone is present he will approach in a usual thief like swagger and ask some questions, namely what is going on, any rumors milling about as to who did it.
