OOC IX
Re: OOC IX
Of Vanco's 280gp from the recent haul, he pays 10gp to each of those who fought under him or their family (for those who died). The rest he donates to the bereaved and injured.
Re: OOC IX
Man, you guys who had less units are making me feel like a cheapskate. I guess Severi just has to tell his soldiers, "Well, you got less of a bonus, but on the other hand I didn't get any of you killed."
Re: OOC IX
Okay, last post for now.
I think Vanco's level 5. I'm assuming he can level up being back in town. Would you roll his additional hit points, please, TK?

Re: OOC IX
I don't know if you guys remember, but I'd mentioned a little while ago y'all should be thinking about the course you want this campaign to go. I've decided that in addition to the XP, modest treasure, etc. you've gotten from this encounter I would like to award some less tangible benefits, but don't necessarily want to hand out things that may tie you more to Karameikos if you guys decided, for instance, to go check out the Isle of Dread. If that is the case, the Baron will most likely gift you with a boat, instead of titles.
Anyway, one of the immediate benefits you will get is that Myraal will ID all your items for you, at no cost and no risk of failure. As his library is destroyed, he won't be able to give you any history or hooks related to the item, just plain ID them. It will take one week for Myraal to ID everything. Alternatively, the Baron will pay for another local mage, Zoltar the Blind, the ID the items, which will take two weeks but will give you history and backstory.
Take some time to discuss what you would like to do.

Re: OOC IX
Severi, at this time, is not ready to settle down. He'd like to go back and kill those ur-orcs with the pillars, which he figures for an abomination. Then go see what kind of reward that gnome was going to arrange. Or maybe clear up a few more things around here.
EDIT: I'd be fine with doing the 1 week ID. I was really hoping for a larger chunk of gold from this, Severi might end up having to burn his gem reserve to stay afloat.

Re: OOC IX
One week ID is fine with me. It sounds like there are some outstanding hooks to follow up from before Vanco joined the party; I'm happy to chase those.

Re: OOC IX
There are plenty of hooks to follow up.
From his 280 gp Thurgan gives 15gp each to his remaining followers donating the remaining 190gp to the bereaved and injured.

Re: OOC IX
With plenty of money in the bank, Quint will give 10gp to each of his survivors as well, and split the remainder of his share among the families of the dead.
I'm open to anything, really. No need to go running off to Isle of Dread as far as I'm concerned. If Severi wants to go back after the "ur-orcs" that's cool for a next step.
Regarding the wargame experiment, I'd agree that it was interesting, but not really my cup o tea either. Just too abstracted, I guess. I'd much prefer to stick to straight PC level combats and normal D&D gaming. I expect a good part of the reason for that was simply the awkwardness of the PbP format. Like Al, I'd say if there was a way to have a properly shared map we could all have moved our units on it might have helped. Rules wise, I don't know that it mattered from a player POV - TK was the one handling all the combat details anyway.

Re: OOC IX
Do we have interest in getting more embroiled in the regional conflict against the rogue cleric? I know that the early group composition was more aware of those developments and then the interim group composition became much less involved in that developing threat, and for us new players/characters it's primarily an unknown. That could change if we wanted it to, though Wyzard's response suggests Severi would prefer to be able to sow wild oats, adventure-wise, and not get bogged down fighting a big bad that would tie us further to the region.
Re: OOC IX
If we want to go chase down Bargle, I suppose I'm up for that.

Re: OOC IX
Okay, that was a big post. The Baron is offering the following:
1)Knighthood
2)Free ID of magical items
3)I have assumed that at least half, if not more, of the monthly lifestyle cost is actually taxes paid on recovered treasure. Since the Baron is offering to waive taxes, if you accept his commission everyone's lifestyle costs will be halved during this period.
4)Oh, I forgot one thing. Those paying close attention to the mass combat will note that each goblin tribe had their own standard, and that each standard was capable to producing a quasi-magical effect to one degree or another. The party now finds that their standard (one of the three, not all three) is now imbued with some such dweomer, due to having been flown successfully in battle. The standard provides the following benefits:
a)When flown, all allied troops gain a +1 non-magical bonus to their morale.
b)The standard bearer is gains a +2 bonus to her AC against missile attacks.
c)Once per day, the standard has the power to allow a reroll of a failed morale check made by the adventurer's hirelings (i.e. those fighting under the banner) who are within 90 feet of the banner.

Sweet!
Hey, this is not a high priority, but how do I get weapon proficiencies and skills for Bruno (who needs an epithet, but won't get one until he hits second level)?

I'm getting ready to crash. Long day, long week. Go ahead and pick skills/WP.Wyzard wrote:Sweet!

BTW, the benefits of a standard can be applied in non-mass combat situations as well.

Re: OOC IX
As a foreigner, I'm going to remove Tev from the running for a magical standard. It would be weird for our party to operate under the banner of the Bounty Hunter's Guild of Darokin.
On many levels, it makes sense for us to go forth under the standard of Severi. If he springs for leather trenchcoats for all of us, I could see the elf winning everyone over.
That said, I could see arguments for adventuring under Vanco or Rhys' banner, as well.
~*~
That's a nice scene with the Baron, TK. Thanks for taking the time to write that all up.
I'm understanding the Baron's comments to mean that Tev won't perceive any improprieties about being a Darokin citizen knighted by a Baron of Karameikos.

The nearest place to get warhorses would be from the elves in Rifllian, about 56 miles south of Threshold. So, you could totally get there and back mounted in a week.

There were actually only three standards made, one for each "company". As far as I know, all three had the same symbol that Wyzard proposed, distinct from any one sigil. And no, citizenship doesn't affect your ability to be knighted.Atlictoatl wrote: As a foreigner, I'm going to remove Tev from the running for a magical standard. I don't even remember what the symbol was, but whatever, we're keeping it. We can put Bruno in charge of keeping track of it.thirdkingdom wrote: There were actually only three standards made, one for each "company". ...
I'll figure out what I think about horses and mercenaries after we see a list of magic items and potentially sell some.
