You react quickly to the attack by the wraiths. Agrippo steps forward and attacks the one on the left. The brilliant sword slashes through the dark wispy figure, which shrieks in pain.

Iluq and Vorkath both raise their holy symbols and present them with force at the foul creatures. Vorkath cannot overcome the evil in this place, but Iluq is just able to summon the strength of faith he needs. Both wraiths turn to flee. The rest of you hold your attacks, at least for now, not wanting to break the effect of Iluq's turning. The wraiths disappear through the far door. A moment later, the Sunsword dims.

Illuq quietly prays while holding his holy symbol to his head, finishing and turning back to the group, "It does my heart wonders to know that the gods have not forsaken us in this place. It must be quite the challenge to pierce through this veil of evil and come to our aide though..."

Tibbius

From the back of the room the green elf addresses the black elf Good job Illuq! Perhaps it is best to not think about such things and just be grateful that your powers do still work.

Fendt "That could have gone worse I imagine good thing we have the sunsword I'd wager. Great abilities there Illuq."

You breathe a sigh of relief and congratulate Iluq. With the wraiths sent away for a few minutes, you have a brief moment to decide your next move: pursue the wraiths? Take one of the stairs you found on your exploration of this level? Rescue the naïve Gertruda, whether she thinks she needs it or not? Stay here and wait for the wraiths to return? Go back to the study? Try to find a place to rest for the night? Search against hope to find Ireena? Something else?

The thunderstorm subsides. Rain patters softly against the windows. In the distance, a wolf howls.

What will be your next course of action?

Fendt "I still think we need to locate a place to rest. But I doubt the wraiths are gone for good. What do you all wish to do? I am after all a mere tag a long for the moment."

Tibbius

Well, we don't want those things creeping back up on us when we are sleeping do we? Is there a way to dispose of them for good?

Illuq, "Destroying them with magic is usually the most common way, turning them can kill them but these wraiths are too powerful for that... or rather, I am too weak to do anything more than scare them off...." he slumps his shoulders and heaves a large sigh. "if we were to bar the door I don't think they would be able to get us if we slept in the parlor area leading to Gertruda's room... Though, I still worry for Ireena..."

When the wraiths fled through the door, they really went through the door.

Fendt "Unfortunately barriers will likely not keep them out they did fly through the door without opening it. Unless these holy men can protect an entire room from evil I think we have to kill the wraiths."

"maybe they are kept from this room? on guard in the alcoves here? does this metal door radiate any magic ward to keep them away?"Agrippo will ask. He is happy to pursue them though finding Ireena is the most pressing issue. "Ask this party girl were she meets with the count? It might be Ireena is there".

Vorkath, paladin

"It would be unwise to sleep knowing those wraiths are around the corner," says Vorkath. "Let us press forward through this door."

The Guardian of the Truth is troubled the True God has not been there in his Turn attempts thus far.

You discuss your next move. Sleeping seems out of the question with the wraiths still undead. Iluq worries for Ireena. Fendt suggests that the wraiths have to be killed. Agrippo wonders, perhaps engaging in wishful thinking, if the wraiths are somehow prevented from entering the dining room. He suggests asking Gertruda where she meets with Strahd; perhaps Ireena could be found there. "Let us press on through this door," says Vorkath.

Fendt "Well I guess we have little choice looks like there is few choices in front of us. Noble paladin what would you recommend up or down the stairs?"

Illuq pats Vorkath and Agrippo on the shoulders, "Let us destroy these creatures and continue in our search for Ireena. We are with you." He steps back into formation, wielding his hammers and following the leads direction, whether that be up or down.

Vorkath, paladin

"Let us go up then, for it is closer to the heavens," says the paladin.

Fendt nods at Vorkath's statement "I'll have to hope you are right, let us hope it helps us."

Up the stairs you go. The climb seems familiar, and after a 40' climb you see why. The stairs reach a 10'x20' landing made of flagstones that wobble underfoot. A chill draft whistles mournfully through the room. A heavy metal-bound door stands in the wall to the west. In front of you hangs a portrait of a dead man with a dagger in his chest.
