There isn't a hard and fast rule on this, so each scenario will be logically determined on a case-by-case basis. Neighboring squares on the map grid at the beginning of a round, though, is probably a pretty good indication that friendly fire is a definite possibility.Alethan wrote:Regarding ranged attacks into a melee...
If someone is able to reach out and touch the enemy, I think that is probably close enough to be considered a target if someone else uses a ranged attack.
Where would you like to position yourself at the end of the round? A step (one square) over? Two steps (behind the thief)?Alethan wrote:Instead, he nervously steps to the west, wondering if it might go after the dead thief, allowing all of them to strike at it at the same time.
Behind the thief seems the logical choice.dmw71 wrote:Where would you like to position yourself at the end of the round? A step (one square) over? Agreed. Perhaps my language wasn't clear, but by "clear shot" I meant no chance of hitting a party member. Mulvey wouldn't risk hitting an ally...even if that ally is a dwarf!Alethan wrote:Regarding ranged attacks into a melee...

I think our group policy should be, "If in doubt, do not use a ranged attack." We are low enough level than an errant arrow in the back or sling stone in the head could easily take out any of us.
