Epsilon melts some wax form a cande and as it cools shapes it inot plugs that he inserts in his nostrils.

"Perhaps we wait in the undergrowth until the band that exited returns and then take them by surprise?"

Smart... I wonder if that works, or if we got close enough to get the smell, a few turns before we battled. That way it would wear off before battle.

"We need to figure out how many are inside and whether any are still out, either on patrol or on a hunt or... whatever. I'm willing to try and scout it out and see what I can find out, if the rest of you want to discuss some plan of attack..."

Gwillt notices Epsilon messing with some wax and shoving it up his nose.

"You think that'll work? Mind if I grab two pieces of wax from you and give it a try?"

Grim nods at the idea. He takes a bandage from his pack and pours wine on it then wraps it around his head covering nose and mouth.

Watching everyone else take necessary precautions for the swamp beast smell, Fimmion messes around with his shirt so that it covers his face, covering up everything but his eyes. Silly in appearance maybe, but as long as he has a spare hand, it won't fall out of place, and MIGHT just do the trick in keeping the smell out.

O'rek mimics the wine trick to help fend off whatever nastiness the group is fearful of.

Ewell asks the barbarian for a piece of a bandage and wine to do the same trick. If nothing else, it has to smell better than trog breath.

"The old 'wine in the scarf trick', Most excellent of ideas. I'm outta magic, again, but I'll try to shoot anything that comes out chasin' you."

Kaltar too will attempt to plug his nostrils - trying wax or wine-soakes cloth if wax does not stick

Strom is impressed with the nose plug idea and will move to make his own.

If nobody objects, then once he has his nose plugged, Gwillt slinks off into the deepest brush he can find that will allow him to approach as close as possible to the lair undetected (hopefully).

He will attempt to move as silently and as hidden as he can...

Sorry, busy night last night which carried over into this morning.

I haven't read ahead yet, so if you've already started planning, hopefully the image of the area (in lieu of a map) I'll post in a bit (I'm on my phone, the image file is on my laptop) won't affect things too much.

Think of it as more of a bog than a swamp, with a majority of the area consisting of low reeds and not providing a ton of cover. There are no trees in the immediate area. There are some small mounds up ahead of you, and the entrance to the lair opens from one of these mounds or small hills.

Image coming soon.

I will continue to read ahead and make additional comments as necessary.

Agreed. I can't divulge whether or not it will actually work, but +100xp for the creativity.

As for dealing with the smell early, it is an at-will ability so getting them to release their funk before combat will be unlikely.

Does this mean that there is no height for the brush to hide us? ie we are in the open already?

Since you only needed a single experience point, this award will actually make you third level. You will gain the extra hit points now but, like Kaltar, you will not get your second level spell until proper training or offering has been made.

I'm assuming you're all approaching cautiously. You're not provided 100% cover, but you are able to keep low and stick mainly to the areas which do provide the most cover.

I'm not sticking you out there like sitting ducks, but the area is more wide open than not.

Well, we still need intel, so Gwillt is still going to try and get it, bow in hand with arrow ready...
