Drakshar

Remains silent, deferring to the decision from the owners of the defensive contraption.

Up to you guys - I am up for not using it, but Drakshar feels he does not have a word here since he joined after you acquired it. And again, Drakshar can take any watch. He can see in the dark so he is good for watches in the middle of the night.

If you are going to using the Security Fence, please make a usage roll.

Can I perhaps make a call here and say we are NOT using it, for the sake of expedience?

"An artifact we are afraid to use for fear of exhausting it is no better than not having the artifact at all," pontificates Kurot. "In current circumstances, where we have only a vague idea of the threats we face in this place, I am in favor of using the barrier device. I will take a watch shift regardless, of course."

The Jag Oru Coast 57D/82 (Early Morning)

Silvestri stakes out a 40ft x 40ft square with the eight 5-ft long poles, leaving a 3-ft gap in one corner for entry & exit. After its powered up, everyone settles inside and the night’s rest begins.

In the hours after midnight, a sudden disturbance stirs somewhere across the trail, deep in the darkness of the jungle. The sound of snapping branches and faint squeaks of something rubbing against bark grows steadily closer. A wet, slithering noise echoes through the air, accompanied by an oscillating beat that rattles the surrounding foliage. An alarm is sounded by the watch, and everyone wakes and stands ready, confident that the energy barrier of the security fence offers adequate protection.

The movement appears to have halted, but the oscillating beat remains constant. A nauseating, damp odor wafts through the campsite. The faint glow of the fence illuminates the outline of a large-bodied creature lurking just beyond sight, approximately 50 yards deep in the tangled undergrowth.

The torchlight cuts through the darkness, revealing a 30-foot-long, slithering creature with its forebody slightly raised as its head sways back and forth. Patches of foliage or hair sprout from various areas of its body, giving it an eerie, disheveled appearance. The ochre and green worm emits a pulsing, oscillating sound from a region near its head.

The Jag Oru Coast 57D/82 (Mid Morning)

Opting for observation rather than action, no direct move is made against the slug-beast. Seemingly content with its curiosity, the creature withdraws, noisily weaving its way back into the jungle.

As dawn breaks, you gather your belongings and set out on your expedition. At around mid-morning, you discover a prepared clearing off the trail. The area is free of underbrush and enclosed by a sturdy stone and timber palisade, likely designed to keep jungle creatures at bay. Evenly spaced firepits dot the site, but it appears untouched and unused for several weeks.

Considering its distance from the port, this spot aligns with the progress you’d make in a full day’s journey starting early in the morning. You can either push forward with a forced march to the next site or stay here overnight, departing at dawn to maintain proper travel timing.

"Agreed, lets take a look and see what we can find out" - the less feral head nodded, while the other sniffed the air - "This looks like some sort of waystation, so might even find other travelers and information"

Further observation reveals that most of the stones are fractured and heavily eroded artificially shaped blocks either transported from elsewhere or sourced locally. The timbers are hand-hewn, and the species match the surrounding tree stock.

The rat heads peer around the area as Drakshar moves in, trying to find a place which might seem defensible for them to spend the night.
He also looks for any signs of recent presence of other travelers.
