Seeing that nothing jumps out or explodes on Robin, Ferd lowers his crossbow and answers Morvith. "You make a good point... don't want to disappoint Miss Thistle. Perhaps we can return forthwith, though."

Unless someone exciting happens at the pillars, he goes back to help Tinu bag up the herbs.

Robin stepped back and shook his head. "All I can see is a big closed about 6 feet inside the cave. We might as well gather our herbs and plan on coming back." He does use some of the plant juice to stain the form of some of the runes on his bags for later research. After that he picks plants.

"Hmm. Any diagrams or carvings? Inscriptions, maybe?" Morvith moves up to where Robin had been to inspect the door himself.

Robin replies. "It's covered with symbols. I tried to copy a few with my crude tools."

When Morvith moves up to the pillars where Robin is standing he sees the runes and the closed doors inside the hole in the cliff. Morvith doesn't recognize these glyphs, but he does recognize how he feels...yes, there is magic here and it is some kind of a ward. Moving past these pillars without knowing more and making preparations would be dangerous. Not impossible, but quite likely very dangerous.
Find something unexpected? (4+ on d6): Robin: [1d6]=4 Morvith: [1d6]=1 Ferd: [1d6]=3
As Robin turns away to continue talking to Morvith he trips over something and looking down discovers what looks like a small half buried box.

OOC: If you are going to note this location as one to return to later, then you go back to help Tinu and all the bags are soon filled.

Robin called out. "Hey there is a small box buried over here. Does it radiate magic?" He kneels down and begins to carefully dig it up.

I think we will definitely come back later.

I'm assuming the box does NOT radiate magic. Either way, Morvith will inform Robin.

The box does not radiate magic. The box is made of tarnished metal and looks very old There are ornate engravings all over it...hard to make out but turning it this way and that in the sunlight you determine the engravings are nature scenes. The box is locked and has a keyhole on the side. There are no visible hinges, so they must be internal hinges. It is hefty, a couple of pounds or maybe more.

Tinu continues her work, glancing up at the others as she moves along, filling her bags.

Continues helping Tinu so as to earn his cut.

(Hey look! A lock for Robin, as an actual thief! )

Robin scratches his head as he examines the box. Then he takes out his tools and tries to pick the lock.

perhaps a +2 from dexterity and some bonus from the tools

Yes, as a Thief you get your Dex as a bonus and you have ADVANTAGE on opening locks due to the tools and background. You needed a 10 to open it, so you don't even have to roll with Advantage this time. Remember you can use Advantage (roll twice take the highest) on most thief things.

The lock on the box is old and it takes some fiddling with your tools, but you get a satisfying 'click' after a bit of time and the box opens...

...there is a slight puff of something like smoke, but it doesn't make it to your face as you open the box. You sprung a trap, but it was such an old one it did you no harm as the smoke quickly blows away.

Looking in side you see a small rotten bag and a handful of coins.

Robin jumps back as the gas puffs out. He takes a deep breath of clean air and then uses his short sword to sift through the contents of the box. Later he will look for secret compartments. "Hey guys! Come look what I found."

Ferd peers in. "Nothing wrong with coins."

There are 16 coins, none with familiar faces, symbols, designs or writing on them. Four coins are gold, 11 are silver, and one is neither gold, silver, or copper. The odd coin is silvery white (almost silver, but not quite) and thicker, and heavier, than either the gold or silver coins. No secret compartments.

The old bag splits and falls apart as Robin pokes at it revealing several stones inside. He recognizes 3 diamonds and 2 stones that he thinks are rubies, but there are 4 more that look more like little rocks or pebbles than anything else to his eyes.

Robin sorted through the coins and gems. He particularly examined the four ordinary looking rocks. "Hey Morvith or anyone, do these rocks look special? I think this one coin may be particularly valuable."

Ferd purses his lips, studying the faces and markings of the coins, puzzling them out against his knowledge of past kingdoms and their tales.

In his illicit career, though, he has some experience at appraisal. He considers the rocks and special coin.

Tinu looks at the coins, as well. "We should probably hold the gems and that odd coin until we find a suitable market for them."

Roll[1d20]=4 (not much help :| )
