Since i've expended CR 3000 into the bank, Chester will purchase the materials needed for the ghille suit, a knife, and a TL 9 motorcycle based on its capabilities (how come TL 10 is more expensive but have less quality than TL 9 in terms of cargo, liters, and weight?)
I will jump on the rest in the morning, but at TL 9 it is the size of a large Harley Davidson Roadster and weighs 220 pounds empty. At TL 10 it is the size of a light motocross bike and weight 77 pounds empty. Both have nearly identical passenger/cargo capacity and identical performance. The ENGINE got smaller and lighter, but more expensive.
I'll take the TL10 bike then. Offroad mission requires an offroad bike. How much for the fuel though? Also, how much credit i need to spend to keep my standard of living in my current SOC?
Either bike is fine (since they fly they are both "off-road") ... one is just bigger because the older technology uses a larger engine.
The FUEL is not listed because it comes out such a small amount that it isn't worth tracking ... it might cost a credit to fill the tank.

For "Living Expenses", I collect a lump-sum at the start of each month to cover Cost of Living based on the month [to simplify bookkeeping]. Then things like RENT and FOOD and CLOTHES can all be just handwaved into the pot called "Living Expenses". We can play without tracking every BEER purchase to the credit.

Here you go, I am going to present it at the start of the next month and allow people to select the SOC they will choose to live at. A sneak peek:

The following includes a breakdown of Society by SOC:

SOC 0-2 “Homeless”
Social Outcasts representing the bottom 3% of the population
Cr 132 / month = Rent 50; Food 60; Trans. 15; Comm 5; Cloth. 2; Ent. 0

SOC 3-5 “Laborer”
Lower Class representing about 25% of the population
Cr 400 / month = Rent 130; Food 110; Trans. 60; Comm 20; Cloth. 8; Ent. 10

SOC 6-8 “Craftsman”
Middle Class representing the middle 44% of the population
Cr 1,200 / month = Rent 300; Food 160; Trans. 180; Comm 40; Cloth. 24; Ent. 60

SOC 9-11 “Gentlemen”
Upper Class representing about 25% of the population
Cr 3,600 / month = Rent 900; Food 320; Trans. 360; Comm 120; Cloth. 72; Ent. 360

SOC 12-14 “Nobleman”
Elite representing the top 3% of the population
Cr 10,800 / month = Rent 2525; Food 640; Trans. 1080; Comm 360; Cloth. 216; Ent. 162

SOC 15 “Royalty”

Y2156.11.21 afternoon the Colony - (Chester)
Chester: “Do you know where she lives? Or where did she live? God Bless her soul if she was murdered...”

Father Ren: “Where did she live? Why, that’s what those nosey types from Ville d’Esploir kept asking everyone.” Father Ren stares suspiciously at Chester. “You wouldn’t be some sort of a Government Spy, would you?” … after a tense moment for Chester, the Father bursts into laughter “I’m just having fun with you. The truth is Ellie was more than a bit of a hermit. Even by COLONY standards, she kept to herself and kept her business, her business. I am pretty sure she lived east of the COLONY, because that is the direction she came and left on that cobbled-together-from-scrap Grav scooter of hers.”

Chester: “Forgive me, Father. It is not my place to judge so quickly without any proof. What do you think happened to Dr. Ellie, I wonder?”

Father Ren: “What happened to Dr. Ellie is what everyone wants to know. I think it was foul play, or there would not be so much Government cloak-and-dagger over the death of an old woman living as a hermit in the woods.”

Chester: “Also, how safe is outside of The Colony, is it safe enough to host a picnic there?”

Father Ren: “The woods are safe enough if you are armed. The wilderness is full of wild animals, moreso the deeper into the jungle you go, but they are more of a threat for those that are careless with food or foolish.” Ren smiled “Don’t try to pet a pouncer. The Truckers might be able to tell you more about the wilderness, since they are always driving through it. However, you probably don’t want to ask them about Ellie … they were real protective of her secrets and almost took the head off of one of those Government question askers … literally. They put him in the clinic when he didn’t take ‘Go Away’ for an answer.”
Father Ren reaction roll = [10] … friendly, high success.

Oh, i wish i am. Spies do make a lot of money, although at the cost of conscience.,he thought.

Chester would like Father Ren to tell him where he can find the Truckers and if he directs him to one and time permits him, he would like to head there and ask about the same question about outside the Colony, definitely not asking about Dr.Ellie.

Father Ren is happy to tell direct you to [25] on the map. The big square is "Warehouse 25" - that is literally it's name and a giant "25" is painted on the side of the building. Next to it is a tiny rectangle that is a small "Office Trailer" which serves as the official office for the Warehouse and the unofficial DISPATCH for the local Truckers. They are found there in the morning aranging pickups for the day's work. Chester will also become familiar with [25] as that is likely where he will but fuel ... just like the Truckers do. We can arrange the Trucker visit in the morning before Chester heads out to explore.

Chester headed to Warehouse 25 first thing in the morning to fuel his BIKE and took advantage of the opportunity to chat with the Truckers about the Road and the Jungle. As someone about to head out, they were open to sharing advice and swapping stories. From the conversations, Chester quickly learned that there was a significant fraction of the population living outside the Domed Cities that deeply resented the high tax rates and the Government that collected it. They retaliated by forming an extensive “underground economy” that operated on a CASH and BARTER basis to avoid any electronic footprint that could be tracked.

With the Jungle full of dangerous wildlife, the locals had developed work-arounds for the general Firearms prohibitions [Law Level 7 = “all firearms are prohibited”]. However people like the TRUCKERS needed Rifles and Shotguns to protect themselves from dangerous predators. All of this fed an active criminal network … smuggling, bandits, illegal black markets.

The general consensus was that being well armed generally kept the bandits looking for softer targets, and as long as you didn’t go poking around in hornet’s nests, most of the others wouldn't bother you.

One woman offered you the advice that a little grain scattered around at night and you could often shoot the next day’s rations in the morning when a Grazer came ‘a nibblin’. She said that could both save you money on the road and avoid eating those terrible Army Rations.

By 0700, Chester was on the road and exploring the road and surrounding Jungle East of Brulantfort for any signs of anything. Around 1500, Chester spotted signs of some sort of Giant Carnivore (at least 400 kg).

Would Chester like to hunt Big Game and establish a reputation as a hunter, or just continue searching for signs of the ‘New Dawn’?

Chester decide that he is not going to risk his life just yet for the big game. Although it is tempting, making money and reputation, but job first, hunt later. He takes his knife and makes a Y mark on one of the trees nearby the sign of the Big Carnivore, hoping that he can search this big carnivore, once he is done with his mission. If he has a map, he will mark the spot where he are right now. Nevertheless, he continues on searching for "New Dawn"

Chester continued his grid search for another few hours, but saw nothing promising, so he made camp using his Infantry Kit to start out from this point rather than backtrack to town and waste time traveling through areas already explored. There were noises in the night, but nothing significantly alarming.

In the morning, Chester continued and found the terrain more conducive to hiding a gathering military operation. This region offered High Ground, fresh water and multiple old trails leading back to the main Brulantfort-Ville D’Esploir roadway. Although there was no sign of recent use, this was the type of area that attracted criminal activities, homesteaders and Radical Movements. The Marine was on high alert.

Around 1000 hours, Chester detected someone moving along the next ridge in his IR scope. By the time he switched to normal vision, he only caught a glimpse of a figure that bore a strong resemblance to the Training / Intelligence photos of the old ‘New Dawn’ Fighters. When Chester arrived at the next ridge to investigate, he discovered primitive game traps … almost neolithic in materials and design … had been set. There was a natural game path and traps had been set at intervals along it.

Will Chester attempt to TRACK the person (who set the traps and left) or take another action (there are many possible options)?

Chester decide that he would like to sneak and track that person, while at the same time, avoiding the trap that's been place, while keep himself on high alert.

By 1300, Chester had successfully followed the trail and located a campsite. Settling in to observe, he saw no sign of ‘New Dawn’ rebels or their distinctive weapons. What he did encounter was a group of men unloading barrels of chemicals with ‘Hazardous’ labels from a large truck into the cargo hold of a grounded Starship hidden beneath the giant trees. The truck then left and returned at 1600 with another load of cargo for the ship.

As the sun set, Chester set up a blind and continued to observe. His patient vigil was rewarded. Two men returned to camp with wild game and one man began expertly cooking the meat on an open fire. To Chester’s shock, they were joined by a woman dressed in the unmistakable clothing and weapons of the ‘New Dawn’.

Chester watched all night. The men made camp in and near the Ship and the woman headed into the woods, disappearing almost as soon as she was into the tree line.

In the morning, Chester used his scope to get a good look at these ‘New Dawn’ sympathizers or off-world insurgents. Whatever their game, Chester would get to the bottom of it. As he studied each man, memorizing their face and recording images, Chester froze in astonishment. He KNEW one of those men …

sorry, I don’t know which PC Chester has the ‘connection’ with, so YOU will need to pick up in the other thread. You have located Ellie’s Ship and the Group!
