Chapter 2: The Comet’s Tail (Revs & Baby Blue}

Beamer shakes his head. “Sorry, Revs, no. I have no idea. That’s just the way the shadows run, chummer. Sometimes, the whole world seems quiet. Other times, the corps just all decide to frag each other all at once. Maybe it has something to do with all that mess at the Corporate Court. I don’t really follow all that drek, omae, but it’s plastered all over the news, so it must be important to someone, neh?”

“I can make a call for you, Revs, if that’s what you really want." He shakes his head again. "But then Randall’s gonna charge you out the hoop cause you’re an unknown client. It’s better to go through your pilot, unless you’re flying the bird yourself. I mean, I guess you have to start building your relationship with him sometimes, but it’s really better not to try that until he’s seen you with someone else he knows a few times. The more he’s seen your face, the less he’s going to treat you like an outsider, and Randall greets outsiders at the door with a combat shotgun.”

"Oh yeah, the Fushi-Ren thing. he shrugs "Wakatta, I need a pilot. I was thinking of checking out Hanger 6, but they might be too..suit...for this gig, but it sounds like they are going to be just as busy as everyone else this night."

“Maybe,” Beamer says. “If they operate in the light, or they’ve only just got their license, less likely anyone’d know to call them. What’s the cargo? Not specifics, just in general. Some things are easier to smuggle than others. If you can make it look like you’re shipping something else, you might be able to slip one by a newbie who doesn’t know enough to look under the hood.”

“Or if it’s small enough, you might be able to slip in with someone else’s shipment.”

"Let's just say it's not something that can be easily hidden, although it wouldn't be totally impossible."

Beamer nods. “If you can tell me where it’s headed, I can make a few calls, see if anyone I know’s headed that way.” He takes another swig of his beer.

{Revs}

"Domo Arigato, omae. I appreciate it. If this works out I'll be needing your services for bigger and better things. Houston is the destination, eight plus the package."

“Here’s hoping that it does,” Beamer says, raising his bottle in a toast. Then he finishes it off. “I hate to drink and run, but as I said, I’ve got 4 more calls to make before I can catch any Zs, and I’m nearly asleep on my feet as it is even with 3 stims in me.” He stands, but waits a minute to be sure that Revs doesn’t have anything else.

Revs stands "Sorry, I've just realised it's seven plus the package. Anyway, we'd better not keep you from your Z's, you need that beauty sleep." he grins.

{GM}

“I doubt I can ever sleep enough to make that happen,” Beamer says in that utterly deadpan way of his, not cracking even the hint of a smile. “I’ll message you in a few hours, let know know if I can find anyone.”

He turns to Baby Blue and offers his hand. “Again, nice meeting you,” he says.

Turning back to Revs, Beamer adds, “Pleasure doing biz, as always. Say hi to your dad for me.”

Turning back to Revs, Beamer adds, “Pleasure doing biz, as always. Say hi to your dad for me.”

"Pleasure's mine, and I'll pass it on. Mata Ne, chummer."

“Watch your back, Revs,” Beamer says. Then he walks to the bar to settle his check with Bruce and heads out the door.

Baby Blue

Baby Blue shook Beamer's offered hand.

Once he was gone, she shook her head. "Sounds like going by air would be expensive and complicated."

{Revs}

Revs shakes his head "It's less complicated than having to deal with land borders and having to stop to rest for a number of nights. The idea is to find yourself a pilot and they deal with the airport and getting the aircraft. It sounds like it's unusually busy at the moment. As for expensive, yeah, but the client will be paying for that, so null sheen there. Now we need to decide where to next to try and find a pilot. The Panzer or Hanger 6? Hanger 6 is more likely to have a pilot but they might not be right for our cargo, The Panzer less likely to have a pilot but they'll be OK with our job. Or could wait to see if Beemer gets a hit. What do you think? "

Baby Blue

"Panzer, probably. A pilot who isn't comfortable with the cargo is worse than no pilot at all," says Baby Blue.

{Revs}

Revs nods "That's what I was thinking too. One day I'll be able to do most of this myself, but I've got to get my foot in the right doors. We should get a shift on, The Panzer is over in the Redmond Barrens, about 45 minutes away."

{Revs}

Revs catches the waitresses attention and pays the bill. H e quickly finishes his drink and says to Baby Blue "Let's get going"

They head off to The Panzer.

Baby Blue

Baby Blue nods, tossing a ten on the table as a tip, and following Rev out.

Revs and Baby Blue climb on Revs’s motorcycle and head out into the still warm not, glad that the worst of the heat has cooled. Leaving the neighborhood, they pull onto the freeway, hoping none of the go-gangs are running this part of the highway right now.

About twenty minutes into the drive, a little less than halfway there, Revs’s wristphone rings.

Revs glances down to see who's calling and looks for somewhere he can pull over.

Glazing at the screen, Revs sees that it’s Beamer calling. He has no trouble finding a spot on the shoulder to pull over.
