As part of learning the land he's particularly interested in learning the best routes to approach the outpost without being seen by those on the trail.
That would depend heavily on were the watcher was located. The arrow slits, particularly the central 2 offer a decent view of the trail, but it limited to just the wedge straight ahead. The top of the cliff offers much less cover for the watcher but a much better view of the area. It is wooded in this area (25-50% tree cover) with much of the remaining area being brush, shrubs etc. Lots of cover for a sneaky individual who knows what they are doing in the woods.

Thanks, I was actually thinking more about where someone could leave the trail unnoticed by someone else on the trail.

Very close to the outpost, that would be more difficult. thee further away you go from it in either direction the easier it would become.

Turnip has a good look around the place, pulling at some random things just to make sure they're securely fastened.
"Wow, you really got this place fixed and tidied up while we were gone. It almost feels like a real home now. Although, these bunk beds look very small. Maybe it's the floor for me then."
Regarding the talk about defenses she adds that "I don't know a lot, but from what I've heard from some noblemen that visited our establishment back when I was a wee kid, usually a lord would not assault a fortress directly, but instead wait outside with troops until the defenders grew tired or ran out of food. So, I guess a few kegs and barrels with grain or whatever would be a good idea? Now with these foulspawn it would probably be a different thing, they'd come running trying to knock down the front door."
At some point she approaches Lharzin as well and offers her hand. "Nice to see a fellow woman in the group. I'm Turnip and I like to stay away from trouble rather than facing it up front if possible. Do you play board by the way? We should totally get one to our room. Anyway, what is a Stone Speaker?"

Sorry for the delay, life is a whirlwind this week, and this stuff required lots of reading and learning.
"The commander of the outpost lived in here. All cleaned out. Probably fit 3 men in here, maybe 4. Looking at everyone now, maybe the two women folk would be best. If so the last 3 men would need to stay in the hall maybe?"
Lharzin nods simply, accepting the offer for her and Turnip.
"I'd rather my wagon, but it'll do." She carries her belongings in.

She spends breakfast and dinner each day with the others, encouraging them to talk about what they wish for the outpost and what they think of Eitri's assessments of the rooms. She will send a letter by pigeon back to the King after the group decides direction and needs.
Assuming we'll circle back on this after the more exciting actions.

Volin is someone Lharzin has long desired to meet. While she was sent to temper her inner fire, he was taught to utilize it. Now, in meeting him, perhaps she can learn from him and his example...
She talks to them about being the
Speaker of Stone and that she wished to spend time in the most untouched areas to learn what she may of the Outpost's memories of its own long-past. She is earnest in this with Volin especially, and spends the first day(s) doing this before newer memories begin to build amidst the stone's experiences.

Lharzin,
could I get 3 Skill rolls (1d100) for her speak with stones and an exact location you intend to try first.
Voice of Ages (Skill 34) [1d100]=8[1d100]=36[1d100]=56
On the first evening, Lharzin climbs up the stairs and makes her way to the defensive passages and arrow slits (16). She moves slowly, trailing her fingers along the walls like she's taking a pulse from someone's wrist.
GreyWolfVT wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 4:17 pm
Algrim smiles
"Great work. I s'pose we shoulda brought some lumber an fence posts so we could make fenced off pasture fer tha animals. Maybe worth gettin some livestock fer food too I guess. That er a couple o' us could go out fer a hunt." the dwarf says.
Lharzin follows quietly throughout the tour, touching the walls reverently as they go, especially the pseudostone.
"Older, then, than the coming of our kin to be made of Earthmover stone... like the Godstones themselves..."
When Algrim begins speculating on the measurement of fence posts at the front gate, Lharzin wanders quietly into the pasture area. She reaches down and touches a section of bramblevines at the edge of the wood, where the low-growth already is thick and the wood and field meet. She closes her eyes, firmly fixing the image of her desired lattice in her mind, whispering it to the plants beneath her fingers.

I don't know anything OOC about this 1500 years ago event. Can we get some exposition about it, and the overall impressions from the Stone to help provide context? If you want specific questions after that, that's cool.
See here. Note it should be 1400 years ago, my fault, not paying enough attention to my own notes.

Beryl
Since Lharzin has other priorities, Beryl finds Algrim and says "I will be happy to go hunting with you. In addition, I am a competent forager."
Foraging (4) - 56

Ingram says he's always up for hunting.
Do we have any ability to salt or smoke any of the meat we catch? Having some food stored here is an excellent idea.

Murgar
Sorry, didn't know you had started the new thread, and was travelling for business this week so back home and see the thread.
Murgar is well pleased with the outpost. It's a good place he feels. He will work the goats grazing them during the day and penning them in the stable area at night. He'll milk them so we have that for our diet, and at least attempt to make some cheese if there is any excess.

Early morning of the 15th of Larane. Summer. Weather is cloudy, no rain yet. A hunting we go.
Lharzin, I will post your Speak with Stones in your private forum, most likely Thursday night after work.
Everyone awakens early and bustles about. Breakfast is made, weapons checked, and what not. The day is cloudy but not raining, a good day for hunting.
Who is going? Which direction from the outpost? Are you going with less gear (i.e. just hunting stuff)?

Arngeir will take his armour, weapons, a waterskin, a meal of dried rations, his runestones, and two Eynwif apples +20%).
As the better hunter, he will leave decisions on directions to Algrim.

Beryl
Since Lharzin did not acknowledge his offer to be lowered into the well, he will join the hunting crew.
He will take his armor, shield and weapons. Backpack with tinderbox, waterskin, rock salt and two meals of food. He will recommend heading in the opposite direction of town.
He is better at finding the vegetables (Foraging (56)) than the meat (Tracking (28)).

You could forage in the same general area as the hunters. Both get 1 roll per watch (4 hours).

Over breakfast Arngeir will cast tongues:
Percentage: [1d100]=13
He then places a number of red apples on the table, two have two pieces of thread tied to the stalks, the rest only one piece.
"With our new friends, I should explain these apples which I carry. They are a blessing from Sarajin through Eynwif. They are curative and aid in healing. They must be eaten completely, stalks and seeds and everything to be effective. They improve the speed at which someone heals from a wound and the general outcome of healing. The ones with two pieces of thread attached are more potent and saved for more serious conditions. I'll take two of them with us when we hunt, the rest I will leave in my backpack, so you know where they are."
(Yes, his Harnic does seem much improved while the spell is cast)
Skill development roll:
[1d100+14]=41+14=55 vs 54, so just made it.

Since I determined you were able to move your wagon into the entrance passage, you can stay in it and be within the outpost.

Success.
Over the next 4 days the plants grow 400 days worth of growth (1.11 years worth) and the they are shaped the entire time. The shaping spell is still in effect for another 36 days so it doesn't need to be recast yet but the accelerate growth spell can be as it only lasts 4 days. Assuming you choose some plant that was fast growing like a poplar, you now have some weird looking fences started.
Once you reach 50 CML for Fyrvian magic the spells will last 5 days (500 days of growth) and 50 days shaping.

For the 15th.
Who is going on the hunter-gather day trip?
Currently have Algrim, Arngeir, Ingram, and Beryl. If this correct?
Is anyone else going and if not do they have any plans for the day?
