IC II
Re: IC II
Bregalad the elf
After catching up with Meagnor, Bregalad enjoys the sights and sounds of the festival. Preparing himself to aid Quinthos had been his primary concern this day. But another notion had occurred to him, something he must act upon straight away.
The elf returns to the three dwarves at the forge. "Master dwarves, I was remiss for not giving my name. I am Bregalad of the Dymrak Woods. Would you consider taking on an elf as an apprentice smith? One day, after I have gained more experience in armed combat, I hope to learn the art of smithing from you, the best smiths of all the races. Even now, if you had a little time, I would gladly pay for a few hours of training."

"Aye, I've maps of the northern places. Darokin, Ethengar -- not that you'd want to go there, not unless you like cold and grass and smelly horse nomads -- the Freeholds north of the steppes, not much on Alfheim, I'm afraid. Got a nice map I bought off this strangely cloaked man, said it was the tunnels under Rockhome where even the dwarves feared to tread."

Dwarven Smith
"Thank you, sir elf, for your kind words, and the use of our tongue is always welcome. I don't have any spear tips forged at the moment, but if you come back later this evening I should have one ready for you." He considers Bregalad's request. "Well met, Sir Bregalad! I am Olaf, son of Olaf, and would be pleased to instruct you in the art of the forge should you ever visit the Rockhome. In fact, you might be interested in knowing that King Everast is actively looking to hire those worthy individuals practiced in the arcane arts. We dwarves have little knowledge of such things, and I fear that between the two of us war between Rockhome and Glantri to be inevitable. We dwarves are willing to pay magic-users and elves such as yourself your weight in gold!"

Lanny spies the Threshold armorer, beating dents out of an old breastplate. "Tell your friend his armor's ready; I've got it here with me. Oh, and if you've got a map I can show you where I've heard this orc tribe to be."
Re: IC II
Meagnor the Elf is happy with Lanny's offer: "I was, in fact, interested in one of those dwarven swords. I would appreciate a lot if I could have one of those".
Then, Meagnor receives another kind offer from Bregalad! "Well my friend, thank you very much. But Lanny already said me he would help me buying something and...". Meagnor doesn't end his phrase, noticing Bregalad wouldn't accept the money back. So he smiles to his friend "Looks like the Vyalia people are much more generous than we hear about here in these lands (if we ever hear anything). Thank you Bregalad! I'll make good use of this gold".
He will go to the Glantrian mage asking for prices: "What do you have that can be helpful to young, inexperienced magicians?"

Glantrian Mage
The red-robed Glantrian regards Meagnor carefully. "Ah!", he finally cries out, "spells for a youngster, no! Even though you no doubt be twice my age! Let me see what I can do! I have both scrolls, that allow one to cast a spell using the energy bound in the writings, even if one had no previous knowledge of said spell! But 'poof'! Once read, the spell is gone! I also have several spellbooks for sale, that might suit a young elf well!"

Drudsa the dabbler will look at the different objects sold by the couple, looking for anything that catches his eyethirdkingdom wrote:Situated on a large blanket laid in roughly the center of the fairground is a couple -- man and woman -- of bronze skin, deerskin leggings and feathers in their hair. Spread on the blanket are all manner of strange devices. A man is overheard telling his friend, "Those bastards bring stuff back from the Broken Lands, they do, from the ruins of the Old Olnes that were here before the elves. Crazy fuckers, I wouldn't do that for the Duke's daughters, I wouldn't!" There are strange wheels of metal with hundreds of square teeth evenly spaced along the rim, and nary a hammer mark to be seen. Several wands the length of a man's forearm, with a single stud on one end. Weapons, someone else says, weapons from a long ago day that shot beams of light that cooked what it hit. No longer working, her friend replies, thank the Immortals. A box the size of an anvil, all smooth and grey, hard like metal, but warm to the touch. A few decayed tubes snake from it like guts spilled at the slaughter.
"What are the magical properties of this sand, madam? And what about those wands and box, what are those objects?"
He will also approach the glantrian mage and browse his scrolls.
"Anything you would recommend for a humble student of the arts, old master?"
Drudsa will check the second level spells available and their prices.
Re: IC II
Tratiln is quite interested in the map of the caverns underneath Rockhome and in (if it hasn't been bought already by someone) a general map of Karameikos.
"These are some fine maps indeed sir. May I ask how you are able to aquire such find works for they truley look like the work of a master."
Tratiln will also pursue the magical scrolls.
"Sir, I am looking for a scroll or two and am wondering if you may have them. First would be a spell similar to my companions that allows me to put under slight control someone. Another spell would be one of protection, either for myself or my comrades in time of danger. I would also like to draw upon your knowledge in helping me figure out what some good spells would be for someone such as myself who might find himself in danger once in a while?"

Re: IC II
Oleg Highstreet, the apothecary, has a stall near the grandstand. He has apparently hired some young fool to try and pull in business, for an individual dressed in wolfskin, with a wolf's head mask covering his face, gambols before the stand, howling for all he is worth. "Wolfsbane!", calls Oleg, "Five more days 'til the full moon! Get your wolfsbane here!"
Re: IC II
Marodin, the Cleric, will visit all of the booths and stalls in turn.
He is disgusted by Madame Esmerelda and her desire to get the blood of party members. He will warn any of his fellow party members not to do it, as that can be very dangerous to a person's health if their blood fell into the wrong hands.
The cleric will spend a fair amount of time with the dwarves selling armor and weaponry. He'll buy one of the rowan wood shields. He'll also buy a masterwork warhammer from them, if they have one to sell.
Lastly, he'll spend some time with the mapmaker and see if he has a detailed map of the surrounding area. Something that expands our knowledge of the area around Threshold beyond our current 15 mile or so radius.

Bregalad is saddened to hear of the possibility of war between Glantri and Rockhome. "Alas! War! -- the insanity of all creatures who speak. It compels us to kill those we have never met, people who could have otherwise been friends. And the reasons for the start of the war are quickly lost; yet the firestorm continues, fed by the heat of hatred and vengeance. I hope for us all that it does not come to that.
Nonetheless, it is the law of nature and right of all beings to fight for their lives, their families, their livelihood! Of that, there is no doubt. Olaf, if we should meet again in Rockhome, I will help defend your home from attack. Your fellowship and teachings would be worth more to me than any payment of gold from kings."
With that said, the elf will part with Olaf with a bow, and return in the evening to pick up the dwarven spear!

Scroll Merchant
"Well, good sirs, it just so happens I have five scrolls here of an arcane nature. The first one when read conjures a glowing missile that may be unerringly directed at a foe. The remaining four scrolls each contain two spells. The first has a spell that helps protect the target from physical harm and another that renders the target unseen for a certain amount of time. The second has a spell that puts certain number of foes into a deep slumber, as well as one that can be cast upon a door or lid to make it impossible to open without the age of magic. The third scroll contains spells that allow one to drift up into the air as if weightless and control normal fires to do your bidding. The fourth and final scroll has spells written within that allow one to make an educated guess at the powers and abilities of magical items, and the second spell within will convince a single person that you are the best of friends."
Re: IC II
Tratiln will give Drudsa first choice of any scrolls and spellbooks but is himself interested in the ones containing Shield, Charm Person, & Affect Normal Fires.
"Sir, what other texts do you have? Anything on Karameikos, elves, ancient ruins or dungeons? We are an adventerous lot and are always looking for new places to explore and mysteries to solve. I have not heard much of Glantri in my time, what is the place like? Anything like Karameikos? And perchance, do you have anything on Rockhome? I have discovered an interesting map and would like to know more of the place."
After previewing some of the other mundane tents, Tratiln will also make his way towards the dwarven smiths and inquire on swords and staffs.
"I maybe an elf but alas I was not as blessed as my brothers and sisters were when it comes to using bows and slings. More times I don't even come close to what I think I'm aiming for! (with that, Tratiln will let out a hearty laugh) What would you have in the neighborhood of a long sword for one such as myself? I have learned two things - I can either use my mind or use my steel to overcome obstacles and I'm finding myself having to use my steel more of late."

I have one here, drawn by the Thyatian explorer and surveyor Agsted Eagle-eye, that I will sell you for forty gold coins!"

I'd be willing to give you 100gp for both of those beautiful maps you have for sale. And you can be rest assured that the maps will not just be put into some collection to gather dust but used for great adventures and who knows what else. Maybe someday you could even say you were the one that sold that map to Tratiln and his companions, who are known the world around for their heroic deeds and undertakings!
