The corridor continues into the darkness but you can't pick out any details without a light source. It seems empty.
would infravision pick out any heat sources that flit in the cold stone background?

Fairfax, keeping to a wall edge, kicks a stone down the passage to try and provoke some movement from lurking predators or orcs further in.

Nym

Nym maintains her watch on the corridor as the others work on the door.

She has infravision as well.

I have infravision and so does my wife! :D I'm not sure how it would interact with the light sources around you, but there's nothing to see, so don't worry.

Rooney

"Alrighty, let's try some sleight of hand over brute force."

After Weezel shakes his head to confirm he hears nothing beyond, the rogue opens his pouch of tools and rattles a few wire heads and steel filaments bent into key like shapes.

"If this fails then we toss a dwarf at the door." he jests, confident in his ability to open the mechanism. However his manipulations abruptly end with a snapped lockpick.

Rooney picks locks vs 17% [1d100]=94

"Right ho. After you guys then." he says.

Burkus hangs to the side while the others fiddle with the door. He's sure that if it comes to wanting someone to bust the thing down, they'll let him know. In the meantime, there's no point volunteering.

Sorry about the delayed post—I didn't realize we'd gotten started!

Weezel Stoneledge

Weezel looks at the door to assess the possibility of using brute strength.

Is it made of wood? Does it look sturdy? Rusted or rotten?

The earlier image showed this.
i.e. an iron-bound door with a latch and lever lock that opens inwards.

Definitely the kind of thing Dwarves are renowned for. Takes ages to batter, blunts your axe and gives away the fact that you are there while you do so.

Rooney
"If this fails then we toss a dwarf at the door."
He has failed to detect any traps or pick any locks. He steps aside in favour of the brute force method.

"Fairfax, Nym. Do you see anything up there?" he asks the scouting pair.

Nym

"Nothing at all. We could try it but if I were going lay a trap it would be down that corridor."

Basalt
Basalt scowls at the 'toss a dwarf at it' comment. He digs his crowbar out of his pack and sets to work, prying near the latch.

The doors are of bronze, to be more precise, but otherwise correct.

With a not-too-subtle crack, the old door loses it's lock due to the well-applied crowbar of the burly dwarf. The door opens with a bit of difficulty, revealing a rectangular room with a stone structure in the middle. It's hard to see any details in the candle light seeping in from the first room.

Mr. Basalt open door attempt: [1d6-1]=1-1=0

Weezel

Weezel glares in Finethorn's direction, then turns to Basalt and gives him a wink. With spear in one hand and torch in the other, he peers from the threshold into the room.

Nym

Nym holds her position until the others move into the new room, then she will move to the doorway.

Fairfax

Brings up the rear, still ready with his bow to loose arrows at any figures that come down the north corridor.

He grunts, a few piggy noises.

Rooney

Shuffles his feet in the courtyard while the fighter types dither over the threshold.

Finethorn
To avoid being back-lit by the candle, Finethorn moves to behind the dwarves and peers through the doorway from the left-hand side. Confident that any occupants will be standing out against the background cool of the walls...

Thank you Gentlemen. Shall we?

Basalt
Harlan steps inside the door, setting his lantern on the floor for the others. He faces back down the corridor, watching for trouble from that direction. I got yer backs, people. Just let me know when we find treasure.

Fairfax

"So what do we do next? Is someone going in the room or do we wait here guarding each other forever?"

The halfling in the corridor whispers loudly to Nym who covers him, while Finethorn, Weezel, Rooney and Basalt peer into the open room from the doorway.

"Okay, the lantern has gone in. Move out, move out, into the room and close the door behind us."

He begins to usher folk ahead.

Hondo will move forward with the party.

Let's form a marching order and not just wander around like a bunch of gawking tourists off the bus let loose in an ancient ruin.

(who knows how that anachronistic thought got in his head...).

As far as I can see, everyone wants the rear-guard role...
...How about:
  • Dwarves (Harlan, Weezel)
  • Elves (Nym, Finethorn)
  • Locksman (Rooney), Magician (Eronin)
  • Hobbit Trinketsman (Fairfax), Baggage Carrier (Adras)
  • Cleric (Hondo) and Fighter (Burkus)
