Re: Greetings from Grognard Games!
Martin, I just watched it and really enjoyed it. Appendix 'N' has come up in our group in the past (who's read what, who hasn't and whatnot) and I have seen it discussed here and there but I think you did a great job on briefly breaking it down, touching on what is listed there and how certain aspects of the game were inspired by these works. I know that you have inspired me to go back and re-read books that I have already read and to finally pickup the ones that I passed over.
I think it is interesting how such a small list in an appendix had such a major impact on the creation and development of such a huge gaming genre.

That's an incredibly intelligent way to market GG. Smart, very smart.GrognardGames wrote: ...On the other side, we have guys that usually wouldn't give YouTube the time of day coming over and watching, which has been phenomenal. Guys that usually only read blogs or prefer forums have come over and watched and subbed up for more episodes when we upload them. They're a whole new audience to the format, and being that it's like a video magazine people can watch what they like over and over and skip episodes that don't interest them. Hopefully something for everyone![]()

We are a pretty inclusive and supportive group. Pulling guys initially from ODD74, DragonsFoot and Knights and Knaves Alehouse. Now I know we have great people from Goblinoid Games forums, Order of the Stick forums (I forget its real name) and many others. It's fantastic to see. Oh yeah, we have a G+er or two in these parts.Martin wrote: I'd like to thank the guys at Unseen for the support. It's been cool bumping into people all over the web and seeing what the common threads of the hobby really are to each and every one of us. And we've already got several guys switched over to older games and they're loving it...
Thanks guys
Martin
Besides being a great bunch of people the knowledge of the folks here blow my mind almost daily about RPGs.
Welcome Martin! Happily!!

Classic. I listened to that game the other day. All he has to say is "how big is the room Greg?" and we all giggle like school girls.

Martin,
Curious if you've found anything game-wise here that catches your fancy?
If you haven't already, could always roll up a high level 1E character and get on the waiting list for the 1e classic Tomb of Horrors!
Best,
Mitch

Sorry AQuebman, didn't see your question. We play an occasional game together and Mitch's MU has a necklace of fireballs. Needless to say we've had a couple of these interactions:
DM: you go back to the burnt out room you fireballed.
Us: yeah that really doesn't narrow it down for us.
and:
Mitch: I throw one of the fireball beads.
DM: Roll a d20, just don't get a 1
Mitch: oh crap!!
Ron and Ethan: run!!!

Did you know that the D4 is actually 4,600 years old and that the Egyptians were using the D20 in 304BC?

Re: Greetings from Grognard Games!
Greetings once more, for we have been rather quiet of late....
The Grognard Games video channel is pleased to be able to announce a series of conversations with the very charming, handsome and charismatic Rob Kuntz for your participation and viewing pleasure.
After numerous discussions on the phone it became very apparent that a one or two hour interview simply wouldn't do justice to the variety of topics that we wanted to discuss together, so we will be running a series of conversations ranging from OD&D & play test history to ideas of creativity and inspiration and a great deal more as the series develops
We're very excited about the project, and we do hope that you'll join in the discussions with us. The channel link is below in the banner, and we invite everyone to participate in the forthcoming conversations - subscribe now so you don't miss out on the videos and the chance to ask questions

Hello, Martin. I just joined up here a couple months ago and I love it. Welcome. I checked out your YouTube channel and subscribed. An appendix N series is a fantastic idea. I checked out Jack Vance because of it and it blew me away. Lurve that stuff.
What would you recommend as a starting point for Poul Anderson? He wrote so much, there's bound to be some stinkers in there I'd like to avoid. Any advice would be great.
Great to have you here.

Check out Three Hearts & Three Lions if you're looking for the correlation to D&D (Paladin class and the alignment system). If you like that one, there are two more that follow on from it, and the Kindle edition is reasonably priced if you can't find the physical book itself.
I hope you enjoy!
