"And if the worm appears, we must beach the raft so we can fight it on land. Much easier than in the water. I'm no frog anymore!"

Magda prudently lets others volunteer for the first trip around the bend. As she waits tensely with the others, she comforts herself with the latest words of the party leader: "...bags full of riches."

Akhilleus

"I understand your concern, Kain, but I think this is the simplest and fastest way, and there’s no guarantee that the other route will be any less dangerous.

I don’t have a rope. Maybe we can tie a few ropes together to make a longer one? That way, you could pull the raft to shore if needed."

Sik, Akhilleus, Kain, and Taibhse board the raft and begin poling around the cliff wall towards the gravel beach on the other side.

They make the trip unscathed, dropping off the Cleric and Shaman before the other pair pole the craft back at a slightly slower pace to retrieve the others.

Not long after shoving off again, Kain sees the ripples in the water first, calling attention to them as they quickly approach.

Sik and Akhilleus see the movement as well, neither having to think real hard about what it might be. Positioned much closer to the pair they just dropped off, a snap decision on how to survive this will be necessary.

Sik immediately starts poling back towards the drop off point, hoping Akhilleus makes the same dungeon.

"Move back! Prepare missiles or spells if you have them!" he shouts to Kain and Taibhese, while he clutches his torch tight in preparation for the impending attack.

"Blast! Do you think...oh, yes, they're turning around." Kain turns to Taibhse and inquires quietly. "Do you have any ranged weapons? I've got a dagger or two..."

"Remind me to find some spears."

If they are able to make it close enough for Kain to jump/wade to the raft, he will cast Sanctuary and grab a pole from someone.

Taibhse

Watches for the creature to rear it's head, bow in hand arrow at the ready. Hearing his companions question he smiles and shifts his bow holding hand.

Starting to wonder where the others are with the raft, Xenos, Cyril, and Magda have no idea what is happening not too far around the bend of the cliff face.

The pair of muscled men are just able to pole the raft back to the gravel beach as the beast rises up out of the water again, trying to grab at the duo on the raft but coming up just short of its mark.

Those aboard the precarious craft have the choice of attacking from the unstable footing of the raft or leaping to shore to try their luck from there.

Kain and Taibhse see the monster suddenly surface and can act accordingly.

Sik will leap from the raft and assume a defensive position on the beach head, growling at the slug to draw its attention to him

Do those three not hear Sik's shouts nor the sounds of fighting?

Not that it matters much, lol. :P

Kain casts Sanctuary and takes the place of the rafters, hoping to be able to prevent the raft from floating away.

Sik and Akhilleus leap safely to the shore as Kain steps forward reciting a prayer to Xathoqqua. When the horrifying beast rears up from the water directly in front of the abandoned raft, it looks like it is about to attack the Cleric. However, once the spell is complete, the monster simply looks down at Kain without attempting any kind of violence against him.

Seeing this actually causes the desert Barbarian to become even more weary of the entire situation.

The trio who remain on the other portion of shore have no idea what is taking so long for the raft to return. The rushing water and nearby cacophony of toads croaking make it difficult to hear anything else inside this vast underground chamber.

Kainaxarthos

Kain does his best to gain control of the raft, hopping aboard and grabbing a pole. "I'm going to go get the others!"

Unless stopped, he will attempt to pole back to the other group and ferry them to the fight.

There has to be some underlying issues with Sik and this strange creature, as the Barbarian tries to throw himself into its path once again to little avail.

After Akhilleus waves his sword around futility, he sees his companion falter, so he grabs him before the monster can, pulling him away from the waterline where the already injured monster doesn't seem to want to leave.

When Kian jumps on the raft and starts polling away, the creature continues to ignore the Cleric, confounding Sik and his distrust of magic even more. Kain makes it around the bend in the cliffs to reach the others waiting on the opposite beach.

The huge slug remains in the shallow water, unwilling to expose itself fully by climbing up on the gravel shoreline.
