Back To Work
Freeday, 19th of Goodmonth
Morning, Partly Cloudy, Warm, Humid

Cresty and Gramble pull on the rope, expecting the worse. Maag and Andron hide while most of the others laugh at them.

The statue topples forward and crashes into several large pieces when it hits the hard stone floor. The slightest sound of something rolling can be heard, but only by members with the very best hearing. The sound slowly fades away into the distance when a very loud gonging sound is eventually heard from somewhere beyond the passage that also quickly fades out.

The tunnel behind the blocking statue seems to have been successfully cleared now, and nobody even died in the process.

Cresty

The paladin looks down the passageway. Do we have another 10 ft pole? We had more than one didn't we?

Lerrick

The cleric readies herself for exploring the unblocked passageway, holding the torch in her left hand and the mace in the right hand.

Andronichishche frowns at the result, not because a colossal explosion didn't happen, although he is rather surprised at this, but due to what actually occurred. "I left my bamboo pole outside where we fought the minotaur. I'm more concerned about that gong, though. You may not have heard what triggered it. That tunnel was formed by Brutus ... again, for lack of a better name. It slopes down and something that was stuck under the statue dislodged and rolled away, eventually hitting the gong. Be careful to stay near Mr. Cu, he should be able to smell if Brutus is nearby."

Alordan nods at Andron's assessment and grips his sword tight. "Trouble."

Yes...That's why I need the pole. I used it to tap the floor and walls in front of me checking for traps. If someone else would like to lead us through the new unexplored passage without using the pole, that is perfectly fine with me

Andronichishche nods in understanding. "Sorry, I should have known what you meant. My mind has been rather preoccupied with this unfathomable place. I thought Maag had brought one, too? If not, we should be able to skirt the trees outside to recover the one I dropped."

Maag

"Nah, I gave mine to Cresty on der way in", says Maag. "I put a bunch in der boat but I fink most of dem are still der".
I did a speed-read between entering the stone circle and tying the exploding tube to the pole. The only mention I could find was Maag handing his over to Cresty.

Link to the OM post where Andron drops his bamboo pole to carry the minotaur head. So, should still be just outside the stone circle.

Carucenus stands by, looking down the tunnel as if expecting something to come to them. "I don't have any pole with me unfortunately. Can't help you there. But I can protect the back in case something comes from behind us."

Saracen Is happy to retrieve the pole, and will do so if the others wish it so. Otherwise he waits silently for the group to make a decision about how to proceed

Andronichishche steps over to the threshold of the exit and peers outside into the courtyard, then looks back at Saracen. "I can accompany you outside and keep watch for the trees, although I'm reluctant to take the lead due to unpleasant surprises ...", he cranes his head at an angle to peek overhead the gap in the rock wall, carefully sliding aside the rope fibers hanging from the top edge as he does so.

Alordan will follow as separating the party is not an option. "See anything out there? Don't forget to look up - that's where that bastard always attacks us from..."

Cresty

The paladin moves out with the warrior priest to retrieve the pole, keeping an eye out for any lurking minotaurs.

Lerrick

Did we just waste an entire round fixated on a damn pole?

Retrieving another bamboo shaft from outside without incident, the group lines up again and heads into the final narrow tunnel they hope will lead to some answers. Andron hops around, following the others as best he can in one boot.

The narrow tunnel widens again once you get past the rubble from the broken statue. A tiny groove is found in the floor of the sloping passage, about the size of a fingertip, that leads further down around another bend in the tunnel. Light can be seen coming from around that bend and a feint female sobbing noise can now be heard from that direction as well.

Actions?

Please check you position in the marching order again and let me know if you want anything changed. Thanks!

Saracen plucks his mirror from his pack, keeping his sword in the other hand and trying to balance his shield on his forearm, realising it will not be effective to block whilst he is using the mirror.

Yes. Yes we did, but it is kinda your fault for making us all so paranoid.

Andronichishche kneels down to examine the tiny groove in the floor. After a few moments he stands back up ... still in one boot. "I'd surmise that groove guided whatever was dislodged from the statue to roll down and strike the gong. I also suspect this shaped passage leads to the same area as the blocked off tunnel south of the mushroom cavern." He strokes his chin thoughtfully. "Mr. Maybe-Brutus was quite deliberate in his planning, obviously to protect whom I assume is ... Marqueesa ... sobbing in the distance. Be careful everyone, keep your sight below eye level, angled to the ground. We have the coffer and vial from the cavern, so I also expect Maybe-Brutus will attempt another ambush ... please refrain from violence unless necessary, though. There may be yet more to this mystery." He pulls out the small mirror he borrowed from Nallissa tucked into a coat pocket and awaits the signal to proceed.

Maag

When Caracenus volunteers to guard the rear, Maag frowns and looks like he's about to say something. But then he realizes that having somebody else there to get picked off instead of him is a good thing.

He looks at Caracenus' emaciated frame. "I just hope yer 'ave got enough energy to run away quick", he growls at the new guy. " Or yer gonna get a line of my bootprints up yer back".

With that warning given, Maag makes sure he has his mirror in hand as they advance, following Andron's instructions. "Necessary violence? If 'e looks at me dat's all der excuse I'm gonna need". he mutters.
