Glasik Ironfoot
Save vs. Spells (16): [1d20] = 11
That's pretty much what I expected. :(

Naruthirdor realizing that the shadow creature has ensorcelled members of the party, uncertain if it'll work he casts Bless and then (next round) prepares to throw his magic dagger.
Since no melee is occurring, is it safe-ish to use missile weapons on the baddie?

Tinuwen manages to clear her head before coming under the sway of the living shadow.

Save vs spell (12) [1d20+2] = 19+2 = 21

She responds with two arrows, hoping they may have some effect.

To hit with bow [1d20+5] = 13+5 = 18

To hit with bow [1d20+5] = 19+5 = 24

Assuming those hit:
Damage from arrows [2d6] = 7

The Lost Halls of the First ElvenKing, The Mountains of Mirkwood, Rhovanion, Middle Earth
March 23, Year One of the Fourth Age
Day Five. Midday. Cloudy, damp, cold

In the lost ElvenKing's Halls, two eyes glow from the pitch blackness.

Terror takes Glasik. The dwarf cannot bring himself to move or speak!

The man-shaped shadow cries with a voice of horror and death as it lunges forward and seizes Tinuwen!

Its icy touch freezes her to the marrow and she falls to the stones, her life force drained away! (0hp!)

With a cry of vengeance for her fallen sister, Gilwennen fires two arrows swift and true into the looming shadow of despair! The arrowheads shatter sparkling into many shards! Their shafts smoke like dry branches thrust into fire; they writhe and wither and are consumed!

"Fool! Thou art past hope now," comes a hiss of venomous breath and a piercing chill. "Resist not my will! Or thou shalt be made to suffer beyond all darkness until the ending of the world!"

Naruthirdor realizes in horror they face a wight, a fell creature of an ancient age. Its presence here is due to the power of Sauron the Dark Lord and it is a symbol that the elves now lack the strength to keep their graves free of unclean spirits.

Naruthirdor expends the last of his magic on an ancient elvish blessing and suddenly, Glasik's heart strengthens. Tinuwen, the Company's scouts and the Uruk-hai awaken weak and powerless. (1hp each) But then they behold the dread shadow anew and into their minds a blackness comes unbidden. They think no longer of battle, but only of hiding and of crawling and of death!

Actions?! (Everyone except Naruthirdor, Gilwennen and Tinuwen must Save vs Spells in order to act)

Map Detail:

One square = 20 feet. Lighter areas are visible. All else is from memory.
PCs on other side of altar pillar are unseen by Glasik, Gilwennen, Tinuwen and Naruthirdor.

Behind the DM Screen:
Gilwennen: Save vs Spells (12): [1d20] = 17 Saves.
Initiative: Good: [1d6] = 1, Evil: [1d6] = 6 Evil wins.
W1 charges Tinu? (1) or Gilw? (2): [1d2] = 1. Attack: [1d20+2] = 13+2 = 15 Hits Tinuwen.
Gilwennen: Bow: [1d10+4] = 5+4 = 9, [1d20+4] = 13+4 = 17, damage: [1d6] = 6, [1d6] = 6
I screwed up the macro:
Rerolling first attack: [1d20+4] = 18+4 = 22
When Naruthirdor began casting Bless, melee had not yet begun so I'll allow it.
The ability of Bless to improve morale permits another Save against Fear. This roll comes at +1.

Rumil

Save vs Spells (12) [1d20+1] = 12+1 = 13

If Rumil recognizes it as a wight he will grab someone who is still out of the fights blade and attack other wise he will attack with his bow (non-magical silver arrows).

Short Bow w/silver arrow [1d20+1] = 1+1 = 2 to hit [1d6] = 6 damage
Short Bow w/silver arrow [1d20+1] = 19+1 = 20 to hit [1d6] = 1 damage

Arrows removed from inventory.

Save vs. Spells (11) [1d20] = 11

Folco blinks away his confusion and sees the Uruk who is laying right next to him doing the same. Though barely able to move himself, he draws his sword anyway, hoping he can get the jump on the brute.

Attack w/ +1 Shortsword [1d20+1] = 16+1 = 17 Damage s/m [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3 L [1d8+1] = 8+1 = 9

Glasik Ironfoot

The dwarf drops to the floor in fear, wanting nothing more than to curl up and hide.
Save vs. Spells (16): [1d20] = 5
He doesn't have a magic weapon, so probably not gonna be able to do too much even if he made his save. I really hope this PM I sent Inferno when the elves were handing out magic weapons doesn't come back to bite us all in the ass:
Scott308 wrote: I know he is proficient in daggers, but:

A) He's avoiding the elven weapons right now on principal (although, if there was an axe...)

B) If things hinge on him having a magic dagger, we have likely progressed to the point where we are all doomed anyway.

C) I kind of liked the idea of NOT taking a magic weapon. That may be the first time in history a character has decided to pass on magic loot! :D
Emphasis on the potentially prophetic part was added now.

Elbenarin awakes from a nightmare! He finds himself and his comrades close to death!

Save vs Spell (17) [1d20] = 18

The Uruk before him is the closest threat and will surely seek to slay his friends!

Long Sword Attack [1d20+1] = 9+1 = 10 (THACO=19)
Long Sword Damage = S/M: [1d8+1] = 8+1 = 9 / L: [1d12+1] = 7+1 = 8

Gilda Ironfoot

Gilly is groggy when she awakens...and then sees the undead creature and can think of nothing but getting away from it!

Save vs Spell (12): [1d20] = 8

EDIT
Tinuwen realizes that her arrows will have no effect on this barrow wight. Hoping that fire will cleanse this evil, she pulls a flask of oil from her pack, lobbing it at the undead abomination.

Throw flask of oil at barrow wight [1d20+3] = 12+3 = 15

Hoping maybe he'll have better luck with the fire than his magic dagger, Naruthirdor picks up the torch and attacks with it, hopefully after Tinuwen douses it with oil.
Burn it with fire! [1d20] = 12 Meh... fingers crossed. I'm not sure if the oil plays a factor, but I'm guessing the 12 is likely a miss on a wight.

Gilwennen, realizing arrows will not harm the creature, vows to protect her ensorcelled friends all the same. Maneuvering to get between the helpless and the ancient evil, she will not get in the way of projectiles hurled, but will strike out with Naringë if the thing approaches nearer, its blade flashing silver in the darkened tomb.

Attack with Naringë - Long Sword +1 (THAC0:20): To Hit: [1d20+2] = 16+2 = 18 Damage vs. s/m: [1d8+1] = 4+1 = 5, vs. Lg: [1d12+1] = 4+1 = 5
Why do I always end up fighting these things up close? :)

Therone
Therone jerks awake, finding herself virtually in The Shape's arms.

[1d20] = 19 save vs spells: 17

She rolls off the altar and scrambles away, barely supressing a scream. She hurries to join the group, hoping for safety in numbers. When she arrives, she readies her bow. Pretty sure she'll have to wait until next round to attack.

The Lost Halls of the First ElvenKing, The Mountains of Mirkwood, Rhovanion, Middle Earth
March 23, Year One of the Fourth Age
Day Five. Midday. Cloudy, damp, cold

The Company is stricken with fear by the black shape of evil and death! Such terror is in them that they are blind and sick.

At Naruthirdor's blessing, Elbenarin, Folco, Rumil and Therone open their eyes and the darkness is lifted! But at a terrible price. The elf sage has attracted the dread attention of the horrific thing.

It speaks in a cold, hollow voice that rends both heart and stone. "Elf wizard! Thy soul shalt be devoured and thy shriveled mind be left naked before the unceasing gulfs of eternity!"

Suddenly it is upon Naruthirdor, bringing ruin and turning hope into despair!

Image

At its icy touch, Naruthirdor crumples lifeless to the floor! (0hp!) The thing hovers over him like a black cloud, eyes glittering cold, ready to kill!

Tinuwen warns the others that common weapons will not avail them here* as she hurls a glass bottle that shatters upon the shadow of power and terror!

In the darkness, Folco and Elbenarin quickly dispatch two Uruks frozen with fear!

Then comes a ringing of swords drawn! Swift and shining, fell and fair, Gilwennen, Rumil and Therone unsheathe shimmering elf-blades and lunge to Naruthirdor's defense! Their swords glimmer like stars in the deepest night as they smite the dreadful shape and tear it asunder!

The black cloak falls to the stones torn and empty! There is a flash like summer lightning and a cry goes up into the shuddering air! It quickly fades into a shrill wailing, a voice bodiless and thin that dies and is swallowed up and never heard from again in this age of the world.

And with it goes its terror and its dread. The Company regain their courage and Naruthirdor awakens.

Actions?! (Everyone may act freely and 1hp is recovered by all.)

Therone
Therone takes a moment to gather her thoughts after her brush with the uncanny. If she was decked out with the golden circlet, etc, she removes them with obvious distaste and throws them back on the altar.
