OOC THREAD FOUR....
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Happy Fathers Day to any Dads!
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
I am traveling to visit family today through Friday late. I am not sure if I will be able to post while I am there so feel free to NPC my character. I will be back Saturday.
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Do I surmise correctly that if I wanted Kato to try to keep Wassername from getting up (say, by swinging his legs to try to trip her up), that'd be a Strength/Brawling check, which for Kato at -1D would be at 2D (unless he uses his "I call it luck" Force point)? How hard of a roll would that be—or how would the rolls work (i.e., would Kato have to beat a certain target roll, or would it be one of those things where Kato and Wassername both roll and compare results)?
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
So, yes....mechanically it'd be a STR/Brawling roll.....the Difficulty number depends on if she's trying to Dodge it/Parry it or not. If she's NOT, it'd be a Difficulty of 10......if she IS, it's either going to be a result of what she rolls (if she makes a 'Quick' Dodge/Parry...meaning 1 action like any other, the resulting roll is the new Difficulty number....which if she rolls low, makes it easier...i.e., she guessed/timed it wrong) or what she rolls ADDED to 10 if she makes a 'Full' Dodge/Parry....meaning she can't take any other actions that round, but if she rolled a 12....it's now added to 10 for a new Difficulty Number of 22 to beat.
That all make sense?

Only in that Kato's odds don't look good either way.max_vale wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 1:00 am So, yes....mechanically it'd be a STR/Brawling roll.....the Difficulty number depends on if she's trying to Dodge it/Parry it or not. Let's see if I've got this straight:
- If she isn't trying to dodge, Kato has to beat a 10 on 2d6.
- If she is trying to dodge or parry, she rolls the number of dice in her Dodge or Parry skill.
- If that's not the only action she's taking this round, her roll becomes the new number for Kato's roll to beat.
- If that is the only action she takes this round (unlikely), that roll gets added to the number Kato has to beat.
That about right?
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Yep, you got it
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Okay. Looks like Kato is going to be doing some dodging himself. A brawling attack is not likely to work.
She still has her blaster pistol in hand, I assume? And the relevant skill to avoid blaster fire is Dodge?

Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
correct again!
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Well now I feel like a numpty. I've been posting orders using the core rules this whole time!max_vale wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 1:00 am So, yes....mechanically it'd be a STR/Brawling roll.....the Difficulty number depends on if she's trying to Dodge it/Parry it or not. So in general, are we using 1st edition + rules upgrade, or the rules companion too?
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
So more like 1st Edition with some house rules.....please see the House Rules/Modifications thread....it's dry reading, but the Dodge stuff would towards the end.
For the MOST part, my Dodge/Parry/Defensive skills is the same as listed in the original book with the big change being that I have them declared at the beginning of the round as opposed to during a round in reaction to an NPC's action. This is partly because it's a PBP game, but I do the same thing in RL games as well.....I feel it makes the flow much faster (no need to suddenly have to do awkward, wait....if you're Dodging now, that means for your OTHER two actions you haven't done yet they are now at -2D....sooo......you'll be rollling blah-blah-blah...etc., etc.) AND makes the choice of what to do each round carry a bit more 'weight' in my opinion.

Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Yep! I think that's basically what's in the rules upgrade too: dodges declared in reverse DEX order, evading is an action and replaces the difficulty number, and a full dodge means no other actions but the roll stacks with the difficulty number.
Thanks! Somehow I missed that in the house rules thread. Just on the gamey end of things, it helps to know for corner cases, like Mark's dodge skill is mediocre enough that if he's at long range with a difficulty of 20 to hit then he's probably better off not dodging unless it's a full dodge. Just keep calm and take your shot, Jedi.

Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Yes indeedy!.....oh and I THINK I put this in the House Rules thread, but if not...ALL Dodge/Parry/Evade skills supersede Initiative order....i.e the Dodge/Parry roll will always be made......I think it'd be lame to not be able to dodge, especially if that's ALL your doing, because you came in third on the order.....if that makes sense.
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Yessiree!
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Where did I get the blaster pistol, I only have the gaffi stick and a knife.
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Off the skeleton of the fallen Hunter....where the pack with the Medpacs were also found....although, maybe I forgot if you said you did NOT grab it...if so, my apologies!
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Earlier I counted 5 blasters total since the skeleton one, so I took a stick. Did I make a mistake?
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
(Not counting Zuul); There's a Hunting Blaster Rifle (Kit....just 'went empty'); Clark has a Blaster Carbine (from NIL-8); I THOUGHT you had the Heavy Blaster Pistol (from the Skeleton) and Vale and Kato have a Gaffi Stick (Vale) and zip (Kato).....with Jackson having just a melee weapon as well as he's basically an NPC at the moment....but it's entirely possible I missed something....
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
I gave the blaster to someone who was better with is, either Vale or Kato. So I have a stick
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Max, is Jackson's exit something we should be concerned about? If he's still part of the game then Vale will be all for finding him without question, but I had to pause and wonder if you were maybe just giving that PC turned NPC an exit out of the adventure for now.
Re: OOC THREAD FOUR....
Oh no, it's just part of the 'tying up loose ends bit' of the game.....I will have him 'written off' after you guys get off world if poor ybn isn't back by then, but yeah...for now, go after him/wait for him please.
