McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.

Szmodics
glances back to see if the cleric is following. Then he gets the stuff he needs from the stores. Buckets of pitch, hammer and nails and cut planks to plaster of any leaking. (not sure how they did it in 17th century but I trust he has the tools ready!).
He crawls over the narrow gap between the ballast stones and the bilge ceiling, mindful of unexposed leeches. He assesses the outer skin of boards and waits at the partition for his aide to arrive before proceeding inside the forward bilge.

Zoggrot strips off his leather armor and drops his gear on deck. He leaves his grisly bone vest on, the better with which to see the limpets.

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Siggard asks both of the clerics if either has any light giving magic that might be used to better illuminate his way under the water. He has them cast a light spell onto his tartan that is still wrapped around his head in a do-rag fashion, hoping that the light will act as a sort of makeshift miners helmet so he can still use both of his hands to swim and work. Despite everything that he has heard about sea monsters, the mage is still ready to lend a helping hand. He takes off his pistol belt and leaves his guns and powder with the Eli. Gulping down a portion of one potion, he strips down to his skivvies, leaving everything that he owns on deck and in care of the priest of Poseidon before grabbing a hammer and swan diving over the rail into the sea.

Iggway has an uneasy feeling about following Szmodics into the bilge. Tell me what you need to after the repair is made, I will remain up here. May this show you the way.... She casts Light on Siggard's tartan. Iggy, doesn't want to take any chances with a doppelgänger still onboard.

Limpet Search:
Szmodics goes below into the bilge crawl space. hoping to encourage native shaman Iggway to follow him though his request is ignored. Iggway is concerned about 'creepy things in confined spaces' and the presence of the doppelganger. Though that creature was last seen walking on deck in the form of the escort Catriona with the captain. Her 'residence' is still the brig and still Old Plighty acts as guard though the cell itself has been made more comfortable with the addition of mattress and curtains for Catriona to dwell in. 'Shifty' has no such qualms and wriggles into the space following the Haldane rogue. He is joined by a third fellow known as Fawkes, a sultry pockmarked sailor from Breton. They push along buckets of pitch and soft wood wedges to hammer into the leaking spots. Absorption of the seawater causing the wedges to swell and thus seal the gap. Pitch applied to mask the cracks and then reliant upon a bilge and good hands to pump any overflow back out to sea. The three sailors halt at the bilge partition,
Szmodics, I will deal with your encounter in the private forum unless joined by a character player.
Iggway blesses the divers and equips Siggard with a short light spell. The Carib Sea is cold and the current ebbs with much sea grass and flotsam. Splinters of wood from the recent battle float on the surface, alarmingly several dead bodies are also floating, clouds of blood leaking from wounds received to dissipate into the blue green waters. Undaunted the party submerge to investigate the hull of the McGregor's Revenge. (you have about one hour +d10 rounds each of the water breathing potion). You can see approximately 60'ft in each direction, though after 60'ft downwards dark depths peter out the light. You each move a similar distance as you swim unchallenged.
each person in the water roll me a [1d20] perception roll, Siggard can roll for VdP as well, likewise Rexlin can roll for Fishy. and an action post please.
Captain Lazarus, Elijah and Iggway patrol the sloops sides look for any signal from the divers that they have found something.

Siggard and Gin avoid the slime and blood on the surface as best they can. Diving below the waves, they look around as they make their way to the first limpets they see attached to the hull of the vessel.

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
The Limpet search continues:
The divers enter the waters. Pairing off to search sections of the under hull. Pocc examines from the stern end. The hull has a thick layer of encrusted barnacles and multiple wriggling forms of ship worm larvae. The tiny calciferous molluscs attach themselves to floating wood and riddle the hulls with pepper-pot holes. In the warm Carib waters the sloop has an unlikely ally in shoals of lamprey eels which follow in the wake and attach their own jawless mouths over the trailing worms and literally suck them out of their shells. Sporting dolphin pods complete the cycle of marine life by feeding on the gluttonous eels. For the marine druid it is a familiar resume for his aquatic studies. The Iberian limpets however are another thing. The giant clams, normally fist sized marauders dwelling on mangrove roots, have aggressive circles of concentric grinding teeth. They will just nibble through the wood, gnawing incessantly. With Geoffrey, the duo spot a couple of the shells clamped on a spot where the barnacles have been scraped free. Already the rim of the limpets is flush with the hull wood. Tapping the clams with the chisels and hammers gains no response.
Siggard with his light spell and Van de Poel swim to the prow end. The wood has less trailing weed and crustaceans. The large shells are easy to find, clustered in a square shape about six feet apart. With their hand weapons however they find little purchase to prize off the limpets.
Zoggrot, Rexlin and Fishy comb the middle of the sloop. The find a group of large clams strategically placed in a line. Examining the limpets you can see some of them have names painted on their exteriors, 'For Ignatio', 'Juanita', 'Shelley', 'Sharknado'. Working together with much effort and straining the three lever their chisels and dagger blades beneath the rim of one unnamed clam. The grinding snail reacts to being pulled away from its dinner by flaring the rings of teeth at the intruding fingers but once released from its' grip, the clam drops away. Watching it sink Zoggrot notices a faint twinkling blue spark in the murky depths far below.
Fishy taps both on the shoulders as he treads water. He points to a series of dark shadows which flit ominously close to the far side of the Sierra Nevada, scenting and tasting the minute trail of blood from the bodies in the water. A cluster of blue skinned large sharks lunge aggressively to shred a sailors body into limb-sized morsels and a momentary feeding frenzy begins. So far the sharks seem content to fight over the dead, dragging them in turn below the surface.
You will need a stronger force to either split the shell open completely(make a damage roll, no 'to hit' necessary), or lever the chisels under the clams to break their suction grasp. (make a very difficult [5d6] strength check for each one you try.)

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Pocc tries to hit the large clam with the hammer really hard Hammer [1d4] = 3 dmg forgot the +1 to dmg for a hammer, then deciding it might be better he attempts to use the chisel as a lever instead and gives prying it off a shot. strength check (12) [5d6] = 15 having no real effect... the druid instead tries to think of something else to try... while noticing the sharks...Wisdom check (14) [4d6] = 14

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Sig looks at Gin with a blank expression, not sure why his hammer doesn't work underwater. He tries to swim above the creatures, using the weight of the hammer head to his advantage by swinging it in a downward motion instead.
If that doesn't work any better, he will swim back up to the surface to yell for a long crowbar or other strong prying instrument to be lowered down to them.

Re: McGregor's Revenge, pirating in the islands.
Realising the thick shell of the limpets is no match for a small hammer, the crew swim to the surface and ask for boarding pikes, crowbars and long spears to be handed down. They have had mixed success with brute force. Straining to gain leverage, the guys almost feel the clams are peeling off from their strong suction grips, Zoggrot and Geoffrey finally succeed in prising away the toothy critters. Two limpets drop into the deep, bits of wooden splinters floating up amid a cloud of milled saw dust. "Maybe the aquato-druid could just ask them to pop off?" Fishy complains, digging a dagger blade under a shell rim to try again. A faint tapping sound is heard on the stern planks from inside the sloop. You can guess Szmodics is moving ballast rocks aside to tap on the hull bottom and try to get a location for the attached limpets. You can hear through the thick hull a babbling sound of voices, carried through sonic vibrations but you can't understand unless you press your ears to the hull. The figures in the bilge bang about checking and repairing leakages. Time hurries on and the limpets visibly sink a few extra millimetres into the sloops hull, flecks of sawdust ejaculated from tiny vent holes in the conical top of the clam shells.
On deck, the crew of the McGregor's Revenge are addressing repairs to the Sierra Nevada so that it may sail under her own power. Dogger gets some portside cannons loaded ready for any broadside and Iggway co-ordinates the equipment to the divers. The crowbars and spears come down, just in time as the circling Mako sharks look to have finished off tearing the Iberian bodies apart and ever hungry, the pod make investigatory zig-zag bursts under the barque and sloop hulls.
Beneath them the dark deep beckons and a distant glinting spark of blue.
(Freshly equipped, you can each make [4d6] vs strength checks on the attached limpets. next actions everyone please).
