Goblins don't scare me, no, Hyde mutters, But everything else in here does. He follows behind Watts, keeping a wary eye.

Galan follows Chet, staying on the line, looking down so that he remains on it.

"Do you reckon it's a goblin every time?" wonders Angus aloud. "If Chet had stepped back after he first stepped foot on the line, would it have gone straight again? And if he walked on it again, would it have been a goblin again? Would everyone get the same image, or different ones?"

Dandelion stays quiet, wondering how someone would invest so much energy into these puzzles and magics when they could have instead focused on making brilliant colors and cloth for their outfits.

The chess pieces bitterly reply to Yenny. "We can't move. Nobody makes us stay here...but sentient rocks can't move."
Chet carefully makes his way along the black line. He appears slightly unnerved. After a minute, when he's halfway across the line, Galan steps foot onto it, preparing to cross. The line shifts, and in addition to the goblin, the line contorts further and includes a menacing looking spider. The line has become more complex and will take more time to cross.

If Angus can hear the pieces' reply, he steps back to the chessboard. "Do you want to move?" he asks them. "Where would y'all go?"

Chet takes a deep breath as the line becomes more complex, but carefully continues onward.

"Where would...is there some way we can help? How...?". Yenny looks back and forth between Angus and the pieces.

The pawns are just under 3' tall. The other pieces are up to 4' tall.
"No! We cannot leave the board! We stay together and do not move! We miss our game...no other side to play against" cry the smattering of telepathic voices, now heard by all.
Over the next minute, both Chet and Galan continue to carefully walk towards the other door on the thin black line. Chet will reach it in about a minute, Galan about 3.
There is room for another to step on the black line, which remains contorted in the form of a giant spider and a goblin.

"I don't reckon it's much fun, being chess pieces without other chess pieces to play against," muses Angus. "Y'all got any notion how we might find other pieces for y'all to play against?"

Galan, oblivious to the bigger picture, continues to stare at the line, following it carefully.

"Adding more to the line will make it even more complicated. Let's wait and see what happens to the line once they've crossed completely."

Yenny looks at the chess pieces as Angus talks but keeps flicking her eyes towards the others with concern. "Where did the other pieces go?"

Dandelion watches, but struggles to comprehend anything about this place. She only knows to stick close to the others.

Chet and Galan continue to tread along the black line, looking to reach the door on the other side of the otherwise pristine white room.
"Gibba ate other pieces" rise the cacophony of mental voices in a woeful melange, as if experiencing the trauma all over again.
"We don't know where to find any other friends" some continue to cry, working themselves into increasing sorrow.
DM rolls dice
Surprise? party 1-2 [1d6] = 3 Others 1-2 [1d6] = 1
As Chet nears the opposite door, he hears a click, then a creaking. The door opens slowly, revealing a 7' tall creature. It Strips of old, dry papery wrapping cover the being, though there are gaps opened by hanging strips betraying pale green scales. The outline of the head traces the figure of a longish snout - and long sharp teeth, blackened, show dully in its mouth. It watches the ground, having not yet stepped on the floor...and also not having seen the party just yet.
Chet, Galan, Hyde, and Arnulf see the creature...the other aren't caught off-guard, but are engrossed in a conversation with the chess pieces.

Dandelion feels sorry for the chess pieces. But, she is getting a bit bored by their "woe is me" talk. If only something would intervene. She just isnt sure what...So she waits.

As the others react and Yenny notes the new addition to the festivities, "Gibba wouldn't happen to be some sort of a mummy crocodile would it? Something like that?" She pulls a hammer from her belt in anticipation of casting Spiritual Weapon if the mummy croc seems aggressive. So far she's never met an aggressive mummy croc, but things are strange here.
