on that note, none of the PCs stats appear outstanding, is that the norm for becmi?
I was a replacement as well, so didnt see the creation. However, if you use the official rules, it should have been 3d6 in becmi. So yes, scores would be much lower than most folks play.

I'm guessing you didn't see
Coenbeorht Kneecapper.
Seems like pretty much a beast of a halfling to me. What's the matter? STR 18, CON 17 and DEX 15 not enough fer ya?
But yes, BECMI PCs are basically redshirts. Particularly if you use chargen by-the-book. Then you usually get stuck with a party composed of the village idiot, a bumbling fool tripping over his shoelaces, a chronic asthmatic, a dude with muscular dystrophy and a freak of nature who ran away from the circus.

Other than the 4 though, Husker's stats are pretty good...remember that bonuses kick in at 13 for BECMI characters...not 15+ for most stats as per 1st or 2nd Edition AD&D.

On the other hand penalties kick in at 8. Having an ability score of 7 or 6 can be crippling.
3d6 in order for BD&D anyone? And rolled HPs at 1st Level by-the-book?
Anyone?
Anyone at all?
Didn't think so.

I see Husker's stats have changed. Now he's pretty sure the place is trapped, but cant find any.

just kidding..... a blind rogue thief would be better than nothing.
then again, your cleric and magic user could die this round anyway

It's a minor thing; but damage for the Shortbow is d6 vice d4.
Vargr: I'm not sure I'd say a 6 or 7 is crippling as the penalty is still only -1 (6-8: -1, 4-5: -2; 3: -3); though any chance of rolling under an Ability score would be pretty tough!
Actually, while I don't know them personally; I've seen any number of BECMI pbp Games and session reports from people who love this Edition use 3d6; in order....letting the rules pretty much dictate the type of character to be played. These folks' are also really hardcore about using the whole "Points can be moved from Strength to Intel if a Magic User or vice versa for a Fighter and Constitution can NEVER be changed, etc., etc. rules.
I don't know anybody who really uses random HPs at 1st Level though...I know a couple that have people roll; and if they roll less than 50%; they're automatically bumped up to the half-way mark. Most people I know just use Max HP at 1st Level though.
Epichicken: If I forgot to say it earlier....welcome aboard!

Thanks! And do you mean that I use a d6 instead of d4?

Yes, Short Bows do 1d6 points of damage on a hit.

another noob question- is initiative rolled every time we attack? And I kind of knew what Initiative was, but now I'm a little confused, can someone please explain?

Stonejuz: I think Beya killed her rat with a thrown dagger; and now there's just two rats left; attacking the Halfling Barbarian and the Elf....but I will certainly have Beya convey her thanks for the healing!
Epichicken: Initiative is essentially figuring out who acts in what order....the better the initiative; the faster your character acts in a round.
As for if its rolled each round; it depends on the DM...some have a single roll made for the party; some for each character; some for each round; some just once and everyone acts in that order for the whole fight.
In OUR case; DH has us rolling individual initiative for each character, each round. (1d6 + a possible modifier for your DEX).
Hopefully, this helps!

You're a life saver thank you so much haha. But does that mean I have to wait for others with higher initiative to post first?

Generally, you can post your move, and the dm will sort them in order if it matters... Ie if someone dies before their turn.
This speeds up the game a lot...

BTW - as the DM, I use the "At the start of the battle, each of the PC rolls initiative, and the bad guys get one roll (unless there is a "Boss") and then hirelings get a roll. Then I prefer to use those rolls for the entire battle.

So you're saying that we dont need to roll initiative every round?

Sounds good to me. So, I still go on one. At the end of the current round, Alenson will still be swinging if there are still rats alive, and then will notice the injured human female. And his statements to her will happen just before the beginning of the upcoming round.
