Eirenaios joins the two standing over the dead body, he stares at the magical circle then back to the body and onto the large room filled with strange curiosities, "It's probably him, he was clearly a man of inventions, of great curiosity and a man who simply didn't know when to stop, his mind made him face this fate and he has done the unthinkable", he stares at the circle once more, "He was attempting to summon a demon....and he may have succeeded in his pursuit of knowledge", Eirenaios is at awe at this display, he is envious of the man able to do such a thing even though he might be the dead corpse laying there

He tries to understand what transpired what is the current state of the circle and the demon

Sorcery(89): [1d100] = 35

and he tries to deduce through instinct if the person lying there is indeed the alchemist or not

Insight(42): [1d100] = 81

To the outside observer, Ruken appears to be in La-La Land. In Ruken's mind, he is indeed in La-La Land. ;) The laboratory is a treasure trove of alchemical work, ranging many branches of the art. The little gnome doesn't know where to look next, so many magnificent things before him and only so little time in the day...

His mind wanders over to the many constructs performing their duties. He takes a closer look at one of them with the blue energy holding it together.

"I wonder what makes them tick..."

What would Ruken's base skill level be for Alchemical Craft (Tinker)?

Eirenaios checks the scroll and thinks for a second, "He....failed, seems he might have possessed great knowledge but he was not a good mage", he pockets the scroll and gets closer to the circle, "Just to be on the safe side"

He starts the incantation to undo the sorcery of the summoning circle
Sorcery(89): [1d100] = 89

He then takes a few moments of silence for the dead alchemist who he admires regardless of the fact he had never met him.

He goes back to the shelf full of books of magic and he picks out the most interesting ones until he can't carry anymore in his backpack

He tries to cast witch sight to determine which to pick but for some reason fails, perhaps it was the strain of undoing the magic circle
Sorcery(89): [1d100] = 92

So he instead simply picks by how old and interesting they look.

Thorgrim keeps a safe distance from the sorcery circle but hearing confirmation that the dead body was the alchemist, he begins searching the room again, this time not worrying about touching or moving things. He will go over the desk again, opening any drawers, not leaving anything untouched. Anything magical looking he will put aside for Eirenaios and will pocket anything else that looks to be valuable or useful.

Craxzus identifies the remains of the alchemist using not much more than the charred corpses blank staring eyes.
"Well that cain't be good." Throm mutters.
Eirenaios rolls the alchemists scroll up and slides it in his robes. "He....failed, seems he might have possessed great knowledge but he was not a good mage" he comments.
Thorgrim begins going through a desk as Ruken examines the tinker machina more closely.
Eirenaios begins leafing through the books on the shelves.
Tyrion (npc) finishes Thorgrims work at searching the walls for secret passages.

Eirenaios looks at the tomes and realizes that he needs assistance picking the right ones, he turns to the fascinated Ruken, "Hey there, you are a great alchemist, similar to our de-", he realizes that Ruken is oblivious to that fact that the alchemist is dead, "To the great alchemist who did all this so could you help me to pick the tomes that would be worthwhile for me?"

Craxzus will continue to search the room after his inspection of the alchemist. Staying away from the sorcerer circle he will move in the opposite of direction of Thorgrim. He states the others searching. If you find anything magical I have the spell to see its magical properties.

Ruken is snapped out of his stupor of wonder as he is addressed by Eirenaios. "Hmmm, what? Oh, the books. Pick through them?" He looks at the mage strangely for a moment, then looks around the lab and notices everyone digging through the place, picking up items, putting them down, and even pocketing them into their packs. "Hey, wait a moment, what's going on? Why are you all grabbing stuff. Surely the alchemist would- Oh! I see, I see. He is the generous sort isn't he? No doubt, he was happy to see some visitors and gave you all permission to read through his works and examine his stuff, right? I feel so silly now looking at those plants and feeling guilty about the blackboard. I'll just go and see him myself then, get permission and all that. I'm sure he has something here that would interest you my friend. I'll be right back to help!"

Ruken is very excited right now. Dismayed at first when he did not see the alchemist, Ruken thought the lab's secrets to be just out of his reach. Now knowing that everyone else met the alchemist, he feels the incredible euphoria coming, the expectation of learning something new and interesting in his own fields of study. "Where did you find him?" Ruken says with a wide grin and sparkling eyes. The gnome cleans his yellow robes of wrinkles and folds, readjusts his hat and even takes the time to run his hands through his beard a few times to make sure it's nice and straight. "Got to look my best for someone of his caliber, no?" he laughs.

Throm looks at some of the books then his head begins to ache and he massages his temples a moment as he backs away from the books and squints his eyes almost closed from the ache in his brain "Eh I best leave the books ta those who know what there lookin at." he waves it off eventually.

Eirenaios fidgets uncomfortably, not sure how to break the news, "Ummm.....I am afraid the alchemist has passed away...he tried to summon a demon and it backfired.....sorry Ruken, but I am sure he would have wanted his work discovered and utilized for knowledge", he looks at something on the ground, "Sorry but I need to investigate something.....ummm I am not sure if I should ask you this but could you look for a good magic book from this shelf? I know it's not the best of times but I am sure it's what he would have wanted".

A search of the desk reveals 12 miniature chests filled with what looks to be powdered gemstones. Surmising that these probably have more value to a mage/alchemist than they are monetarily worth, Thorgrim sets them aside for Eirenaios and pockets for himself what appears to be an uncut golf ball-sized sapphire.

Finishing up with the desk and noticing Eirenaios heading west, he will follow. "Did you find something?"

The statement does not fully register in the gnome's mind at first. He stands there and smiles, his face locked into place as his mind puts the words together. "W-what did you say? He... what, a demon?" Ruken staggers a bit backwards and catches himself before falling, the mental shock proving more disorienting to his body than he thought. With clenched fists, and a wild look in his eyes, he says to no one and everyone, "It's not fair... it's not fair, this is NOT FAIR! This is too cruel, it's..." The momentary, almost child-like, outburst from the usually calm-minded gnome ends as he unclenches his fists and looks back up at Eirenaios. The gnome's eyes now have a glassy look to them, as if they lost some of their color and vibrant energy. The smile is no longer there, just a passive pursing of the lips.

Ruken turns around and looks across the lab. Tyrion notices this short episode of emotion and motions for the gnome to follow him. Leading the gnome to the infernal site,
tooleychris wrote:Tyrion (NPC) places a gentle hand on Rukens shoulder before he sees the gory remains.

Upon seeing the alchemist, a tear runs down Ruken's face, then drips to the ground. The gnome's shoulder's shake, as if sobbing, but the little guy remains strangely silent. After a minute or so of getting it out of his system, Ruken breaks his awkward silence and says out loud to those nearby, "Eirenaios is right. It would be a shame to leave all of his work behind. I will take everything I can from this lab and put it into my own. I will learn from his successes, his failures, and I will not make the same mistake he did. His work, his legacy shall be preserved, this knowledge will not be lost to the sands of time."

Ruken puts some distance between himself and the pit and holds the miniature hut out for everyone to see. He calls everyone over to make an announcement, those who aren't busy doing something important. "It is getting late and the alchemist will not be hosting us here. I have camp made right here," he lifts the hut up. "All that needs to be done is to enlarge it with the accompanying spell and we will have shelter for the night. In the meantime, I would like to start moving everything that we can carry, carefully, over to the hut for storage. Though some of the items in this lab may seem useless to you or invaluable, I can work wonders with it, and perhaps our mage friends too. Will you help me?" The gnome says all of this in a monotone, keeping quite the serious look on his face, but without his signature smile. Ruken means business and it looks like he does not have time for any more emotional outbursts tonight or humorous comments. He looks each member in the eyes as he conveys his message for added emphasis.

Eirenaios has an out of body experience for a few seconds, he feels himself floating staring at himself staring, mesmerized, at the spectacle unfolding in front of him behind the curtain, he didn't even register Ruken's speech, his mind was just empty and all he was was a mage witnessing a miracle.

After he finally reclaimed his mind, he thought hard about it, he considered going in there, the ramifications may be horrendous for him but he would have a moment, one moment where he meets such a being, he was curious, very curious, any mage would be, but he stopped himself because he hoped in the future he would hold enough power to be able to do such a thing himself, that thought brought a smile to him in the midst of all this madness. Before leaving the room he took one last look and concentrated on the being ,and the cosmic ball of sorts it's conjuring, with his Witch Eyes hoping to get anything useful for him as a mage, a better understanding of magic or a future reference if he decided to summon such a thing.

Sorcery(89): [1d100] = 17

He then runs out of the room and whispers to the others motioning them to keep quiet, fear started to work its way into his body now, "That brilliant bastard.......I can't believe he was successful.....the demon is here, she is in the other room right now performing some sort of a ritual of some kind, I have no idea what it is, we can't stay here, we must run, unless we want to face a demon......do we?", he gave it serious consideration for a moment, "No, we can't do that, it's impossible, we will be mangled in a second, let's take all that we can and quickly leave this place", he starts quickly packing everything that looks useful into the hut Ruken created , knowing it would be good storage.

In the process he looks at Craxzus wit a stern face, "What did you take from his body? The alchemist, what is the cube thing you pocketed?? Tell me now! If it has any ties to the demon I need to know, it doesn't seem to be magical but it must be something important"
