With no time for manners,
Mulvey quickly scampers over the pile of rubble to join the others. He yells
"Quick, get a flask of oil ready!" as he readies his bow.
Abelard drops his mace and shield and retrieves a flask of oil from his pack, passing it to the elf.
Kernodle helps
Luken back into the passage they just emerged from and stands at the defense in front of the ailing warrior.
Mulvey ignites and tosses the burning flask of oil just beyond the pile of rubble. The rats, which had just began to reveal their location, scurry at the sight of the flame. One rat, however, seems to linger, but does keep a safe distance from the flame.

"I don't like the way it's staring at us... like it's waiting or something. Can you hit it from here with an arrow?" Abelard asks.

"I don't have a clear shot from here, Abe. I'll need to switch places with you." Assuming Abe's willing,
Mulvey will position himself for a shot at the rat. Before doing so, he'll act on a hunch.
"Friend or foe, my little rodent friend?" If no response is forthcoming in 10 seconds, he'll fire an arrow at the curious vermin.

Abe happily switches positions.

If Luken can jockey for a firing position that put none of his new found friends in danger he will do so to take a shot at the rodent.

Abe expresses his unease at the lingering rat and wonders if
Mulvey might be able to target it with his bow. A determined
Luken decides he, too, wants to see if he can jockey for a firing position but his body is unable to fulfill his minds wishes; instead,
Kernolde ends up helping the weakened warrior remain on his feet.
Mulvey, the other archer, examines the situation and suspects he'd have a better angle if he and
Abe switched positions. As the two shift their respective places and the elf is in better line, he looks down the passage where the rat was last detected intent on attempting to parlay... but the vermin is no longer in sight.

Mulvey exhales softly. "Thanks Abe. Looks like just one passage left. If you want to fill the tunnel with rubble, I 'll explore ahead while the dwarf continues to twiddle his thumbs."
If agreed, Mulvey will explore the southwest passage.

Mulvey disappears down the southwestern branch of the 'Y' intersection while Abe, Kernodle and Luken are left to secure the rubble pile to the north.

Abelard looks at Kernodle and says, "I think you might be better at blocking the passage up, seeing as how you're a, ummm... Dwarf and all."

Kernodle will improvise the best blockade he can come up with given the situation.
Yes, I'll do it so we can undo it if we find no better path elsewhere.

Must be his family Reunion? mumbles Kernodle, as he stops what he was doing and goes to assist. Sword in hand.

Abelard prepares another vial of oil to throw if the first rats they encountered try to come at them from behind over the pile of rubble.

Luken will keep his crossbow out and move to the southwest also.

Kernodle makes a snarky comment about the elf as he halts his efforts to secure the rubble pile and brings his sword to hand. He passes
Abe and
Luken as he begins to head down the southwestern branch of the 'Y' intersection.
Abe, looking to follow the dwarf, readies a flask of oil and prepares to ignite it in the event the rubble doesn't hold. It takes considerable effort, but
Luken brings his crossbow to his hands and prepares to follow as well.
Kernodle halts his progress at the sight of the collapsed form of
Mulvey propped up agains the wall, a rat, approximately a foot-and-a-half long standing atop him, beginning to gnaw on elven flesh. A second rat lingers in the distance.

The rat beginning to feast on the elf suddenly stops. It lifts its head and, with whiskers twitching, stares directly at Kernolde with its beady eyes. The second rat approaches the fallen form of Mulvey and begins sniffing its latest find.

If Luken can get a shot off w/o endangering his friends he will give it a try, at the lead rat.

Kernodle will back into intersection, with shield and sword at the ready.
Take whatever shots you can fellows. Toss that oil only if you absolutely gotta. I figure if we back into the tunnels here, we can all 3 hit 'em one at a time. Then we can see if that weak elf has any life left in him.

Abe passes the oil to Luken and prepares his mace and shield as he backs up to the north and pushes Luken to the east.
"Draw back to the intersection so at least two of us can fight it together."

Kernodle backs into the intersection and readies his shield and sword.
"Take whatever shots you can, fellows." he instructs.
Abe backs up to the north and prepares his mace and shield while looking to pass a flask of oil off to
Luken The fighter, though, already has his crossbow aimed and doesn't need much prompting from the dwarf. His still shaky arms cause his light quiver to miss its mark, but the incoming missile is apparently enough to cause the lead rat to flee as it quickly scurries off and disappears out of sight into the cavern. The second rat, still acting more casually, takes a quick nip at the elf and begins to back away as well, but is still in view.
